  • Concerning Charm and level differences...

Hey guys, what's up? Never thought yall'd see me here, eh?

At any rate, I've been looking around for a bit, and either I'm just blind, not seeing it, or the info just hasn't been specificlly mentioned, but I was wondering about whether or not Charm works along the same lines as other JAs insofar as the job's level helps to determine effectiveness along with CHA, or is Charm purely based on CHA, with BST lvl having no consequence. This is in relation to BST as a /sub, not main.

My BST is lvl 1, as can be seen in my char info, and I've spent all of about 1 mob in N. Gusta messing around with the job while prepping to Ghetto Warp (don't ask me why, I don't even remember what I was doing at the time).

Thanks in advance for any help, and I apologize in advance if this question has been answered, but I simply haven't found this on my own, and haven't had the chance to experiment as of late to find out first hand (this was brought on by the idea of BLU/BST for solo and easier to aquire BLU spells and such). It's just been bugging me for a while now, and even more so that I have to ask what may already be an obvious question for you guys.

I am not even BST as a sub or main but I believe Charm is based off your real BST lvl, even when under lvl cap from being a sub.

That is, if you're a level 20 RDM or something, your charm rate will be the best if your BST is level 20 or higher, even though it's capped at 10. You're probably still gonna need some hefty CHR gear, though, especially if you're using a low-CHR job.
      Ho-hum.

Charm is based on your leve, I remember trying out /BST on my 75 BRD (who had over 100+ CHR with songs and the sub was 35-ish at that time. The EP Wajaom Tiger ate me. I had four resists

Re: Concerning Charm and level differences...

Recently, I tried soloing for marksmanship as WAR/BST out in Bhaflau Thickets. WAR was level 70 at the time, and BST was (and still is) level 60.

For charming, I equipped Apollo's Staff, Noble's Ribbon, Bird Whistle, Corsette +1 and 2 Allure Rings. I was eating Tuna Sushi. So that's base CHR ~60, +25 CHR from gear, plus an accepted charm success bonus of +15% from the Staff. I checked a couple different stat calculators, and they tell me that a BST/WHM at the same level would have somewhere between 9 to 13 more base CHR. So CHR wise, as a WAR/BST I'm equivalent to a BST/WHM with somewhere between +12 to +16 CHR.

I was charming Aht Urhgan Attercops (lvl 63 to 65) to fight against Attercops and Lesser Colibri. I didn't keep track of charm attempts, failures and successes. But I will say that I wouldn't have felt safe if it wasn't for the zone lines nearby. Quite a few times I would mischarm up to 3 times in a row as I ran toward a zone line. I'd guess-timate my charm success rate was around 75% to 85%. This was over the course of about 2 hours.

In spite of the charm resistance spiders tend to show, I would expect a level 70 BST/WHM with an Apollo's Staff and similar CHR to have a higher success rate on spiders that only con high EP to DC.

            Thanks, guys, this'll be helpful.

So, from what I'm gathering, levelling BST would produce results, but overall, it would still be hit-or-miss. I was hoping I could avoid levelling it if I could get the main component (Charm) to work through sheer stat-stacking instead, but it looks like I'll actually have to level BST.

Now to do more research on BLU/BST to see how this is actually worked, cuz as fun as soloing on BLU/NIN is, facing down attacks like Triple Attack from diatrymas and 1000 Needles alone makes me nervous, and extra bodies/help isn't always availiable.

Oh, I'd totally level BST to be more independant on learning BLU spells, its not unusual for BLU to actually approach a BST for help since we can charm, TP a mob and then unleash it for the BLU to attack and get the spells.

Heh, shades of Relm+Strago there, but it's effective, I'll admit that. I honestly have forgotten about asking a few BST friends to help me get spells, although I did mention it a few times when the job was in the post-release phase way back when. Would actually be helpful to aquire a few spells at a time, first from the mob you and the BST/pet are fighting, and then one from the Released pet. Thanks for the new perspective.

I'd *really* rather not level BST. I promised myself that I'd level BST as the *very* last job I'd level before I accomplished everything I wanted to do and quit the game.
