BST\war SMN\whm duo... is it worthwhile?

A friend has started lvlin smn, I've started lvl'n bst. We both hit lvl 12 and are going to try teaming up for exp and eventually BCNM & NM hunting. Has anyone tried this setup? Is it a complete waste a time? Since we're new to these jobs, any tips besides what I've read in the stickies for each job? Any pitfalls I'm not seeing?
These aren't our main jobs, just something we're going to do for a change of pace. Also we both play on 360's so we have voice chat, which I think might just help us pull this off.

I did a duo pt with a rng buddy of mine wasn't as good as duoing with my bst buddy but it works. As long as you can manage the hate and know when to run you sould be fine. I would recommend both of you /whm so you can heal yourselfs or each other if one of you takes to much hate. Just my recommendation, but I'm only a 19 bst.

Personally, I don't have much experience with duoing, as I spent 99% of my BST career solo. I have seen a post somewhere (I can't remember for the life of me where it is ;; ) that outlines some viable duo/trio jobs, and quite a few of them listed the pet jobs: BST, SMN, or DRG as options. This post was pre-ToAU so PUP wasn't included, but I would assume duoing with a PUP is quite similar, but that's off topic. So, with respect to the BST + SMN duo, I think you can definitely do it.

I expect the SMN would act as the healer for the group and deal pet damage, BPing on pet swaps (post-Leave) to seal hate on the avatar while the BST seeks a new pet. Also, if time permits, BP at the end to kill off your mobs and then rest while the BST is pulling and during the early portion of the fight.

Now, with respect to your levels, the earliest duo experience I had was at level 20, and it wasn't very effective. I'm not a duo-BST really, but gut feeling tells me that duo shines post-Leave. Maybe other members could give you a better perspective on this.

At lower level, it would be like SMN is leeching XP of you as the Avatar is doing low damage. At least, it would be usefull for pet swap as the Avatar can buy you some time.

At higher level, I think it is a good combination. An Avatar can handle quite a beating and its Blood Pact are really strong and can even out the fight in favor of your pet or finish the mob sliver of life (instead of the infamous Rampage of sux and miss fest).
Furthermore, the SMN now can have access to equipment to regenerate MP faster.
