New to FFXI

HI all I decided i gonna buy FFXI and try it this november when that triple expansion comes out. I jsut mvoe from everquest and i was a beastlord now I decied i want to go bst again. What class you think is best for a beastamer. I was thinking of a taru taru cause they are cute ! and have good cha but are they good meelers ? or are they charm and pet tank kind of race.

Race isn't really all that important in FFXI. Tarus do have the most mp of any race, so when you're subbing white mage you'll have more xp to cure yourself with.
Really just pick a race that you can stand to look at for 100+ days of game play. If you pick a race you hate looking at you'll be kicking yourself for months and years to come.

All races have their pro's and con's. For Taru's you have the high CHR to help you charm mobs, high MP to cure yourself more if you get hit but lower HP so if you mischarm or pull hate you could die quicker.

Unfortunately, as far as survivability goes, tarutarus are the worst. If you plan on playing as a taru, expect to die..... a lot. Depending on what job you play though, you may die less often than other jobs.

As a BST you're going to die lots anyway, Taru or not.

BST is 75 percent death and 25 percent determination. I've seen Galka BST fall to nastier things than I have as Taru, but death still comes easy just for being a BST. So get those Reraise earrings as soon as you can equip them or be prepared to homepoint or wait for a raise... a lot.

My only regret in choosing Taru is the tummy factor. Females of the taller races get exposed tummys on BST AF and that is hot. Taru tummy is not hot and covered up entirely.

Idk, there's just something cool about seeing a taru dual-wielding Tomahawks with his TigerFamiliar in Kazham. That's what made me proud of my race choice when I started up BST. (If you do try that, /Assault from the side. You'll get all the benefits of Tiger's higher damage, but without having to worry so much about him getting countered or intimidated by the mandragora).

I've played as both Galka and Taru.
People seem to treat me better when I'm Taru than when I'm Galka even though the player inside is exactly the same (me).

For bst job, I agree that any race would do fine.

Gear + Food + Juice. = all races are the same. It just depends on what you pefer to stare at for the next 500 lvls.

i was thinking about all the different races. I didn't know what to play as. I looked at all the jobs and found that Red Mage suited me best. So I chose Hume for the HP, MP and the all round versatility of the human race!
