  • Chucky dissapoints me.

Well, I got to 70 today, had my test since 58, spent several hours trying to get ahold of a F. antica broth jug, paying a fair bit more than that AH history. I figured it was worth it after hearing other people mention the maat fight and how chucky just owns it.
So... even after using familiar and a reward, maat only got a little below half health before we were both dead. I didn't even get tp first, and chucky barely got enough time to get 100 tp.... to blind maat and his pet.
Did I do something wrong? Is there something I'm missing here? I hope this time I won't end up wasting 150k gil on the next fight...

Did you let chucky tank both maat and his pet? From what Ive heard most bst take care of the pet and let chucky dispense with maat.

    Sucks that you lost.

Yeah, what I expected to do is just take down maat as fast as I could (I wanted to see if I could break the record >.>), but... despite repeatedly telling chucky to attack maat, he ends up killing his pet first (which is odd, since the pet was doing like half the damage to me that maat was, ~50 damage a hit as opposed to 110...). I might have won if chucky would have just focused on maat, too.

        Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

        What I did was:

        1) Sleep to 100 TP with Opo-opo necklace
        2) Send my familiared pet in on Maat's pet, then wait for Maat to aggro the pet
        3) Engage pet and kill with a rampage. At this point your Chucky should be solely on Maat.
        4) Use a zeta, it'll cure Chucky nicely and give him a regen for the rest of the fight.
        5) I then melee'd maat and built TP for when he summoned the next pet.
        6) Once the pet was summoned, I used a fight command to get 1 hit on it from chucky...then rampaged to finish the pet. Bring an icarus wing in case you haven't built TP by this point. I brought one but didn't use it, so just sold it back after the fight.
        7) At this point it should be you and your pet fighting Maat and you should be able to kill him before he summons another pet.

This is a pretty aggressive strategy (except for the sleeping for TP) and if you pull hate and get an Asuran Fist in the face it might not go well. You'll want to bring potions for if/when you pull hate. I suggest Hi-potion +3. They are super fast and surprisingly cheap. Personally, I brought a vile elixer and vile elixer +1 and used them both. But this was because I couldn't get my hands on a Chucky or Lars, so went with a Panzer and had some extra cash around because of it. If you are really trying to break the record, use the icarus wing first and don't sleep for TP. If I had done that, I would have finished the fight in ~2 minutes, which I think would break the record most the time.

          Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

My kill was back in the pre-chucky days, but here was my strat.
          1. Sleep/Opo/Panzergallahd/Familiar
          2. Toss pet on Maat, rampage Maat's pet.
          3. Reward pet, melee Maat.
          4. Icarus Wing next Maat pet.
          5. Go all out on Maat, ignore 3rd pet.

Use Hi-potions when you have the chance and you will do fine.

            Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

I did almost the same thing as RunningDemon did only I didnt use an icarus wing as I managed to melee maat's second pet to death then rampage the old fart. My pet barely survived and I was so excited I forgot to give it pet food. I only used 3 hi pots but using them actually pulled hate from maat which was odd.

What really made this fight easy was using an exp scroll to lvl up during the fight. I went from 400 hp to 1200 hp. All in all an easy fight. I think Panzer is just fine for the maat fight. A stack of panzer costs as much as 1 chuckey too.

              Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

well, I tried it again, this time using panzer... he lasted a bit longer, with me fighting maat's pet. I fought maat's first 2 pets, wasn't too hard, I healed up some with potions (up to 70%ish hp), and by the time I killed the second pet, panzer was almost dead (did use reward between pets). At that point everything fell apart. maat summoned a mandragora pet right before he killed panzer, while I tried to summon another to send after him. I died in about 5 seconds of them both attacking me. I guess chucky really is better. I think had I managed to send a second panzer on maat before he summoned his other pet, I would've done fine... but... well, it also helps to keep the item to summon him equipped... not that it would have mattered, the pet would likely have killed me beforeI could get panzer to attack him too.
Anyway, now to farming another test...

                Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

I was lucky and got a bunny pet against Maat. I slaughtered it in 4 hits without using rampage and basically saved it for Maat.

                  Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

He started the fight with a bunny pet each time. The problem isn't really killing the pets, it's my pet living and doing noticable damage. neither of which my pets were doing...
At any rate, I can see that chucky was indeed better than panzer, problem is panzer I don't think even got maat to 50%. Also, the fact that I die in like 5 seconds doesn't help... which made me realize I should be eating some defense food.
The other thing I want to try is to have reraise up, so I can still get out another pet after already having taken off some of his hp. I'm assuming this will work, since dying resets hate...
This is so much more work than I expected...

Are you using your 2 hour on your first pet? My panzer lasted the entire fight and went to town on Maat and he was familiared.

                      Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

i used CC back in the day. Not the best chioce of pet but still worked. At the start of the fight i'd recommend.

                      -sleep to 100%
-fight your pet against his pet.
                      -Engage and ramgage pet
-melee until pet is dead...should be quick. You pet's first attack will take a good chunk out of his pet.
-melee him until he summons another pet.
-optional - use icarus wing if you need the tp.
-fight your pet against his pet.
                      -rinse and repeat

Only veriation i did was i didn't do the fight command on the pet. This helps alot!! Also if you start to feel uncomfortable get out of aggro range and start using hi-potions. He gives up at about 20%. In my fight he summoned 4 pets and i still won >.< Used about 5 hi-potions and 1 icarus wing. I thought it was a brute force way to do it but least i only had to try once.

                        Re: Chucky dissapoints me.

Lifedrinker Lars is made of win.

My 3rd fight went like this:
                        - call Lars, familiar
                        - wait a moment on call timer, change equip, use items (the waiting was unnecessary, as I found out...)
                        - fight + sic on maat, I attack his beetle
                        - mid beetle fight, used reward
                        - finish the beetle with ~50% hp, ran out of range, healed up with potions (unnecessary, again...)
                        - hit maat once (left me with like 86 tp, didn't even get to 100)
                        - win, and break record

Lars still had ~15-20% of his hp at that point, too.

I'll upload pictures confirming my record to my photobucket account in a bit
