  • Tatami Shield

Hello, everyone. This is my first post.

I finally will have enough money to buy Tatami Shield soon.
But I was wondering how strong "enhances killer effect" is.
I was searching all over the Internet, but couldn't find this info.
    So, this probably is unknown...

I'm thinking it will be same as "enhances killer effect" of AF1 leg.
I hope both of them are more specific like "killer effect + 2%".

Anyways, hopefully I can buy one this weekend and see it myself

    Re: Tatami Shield

Well I don't know any specific percentages or anything. I'll tell you this though: I love mine. That shield and our AF pants and I'd see a noticable difference in my intimidation rates, that's on xp mobs too.

Best I think I can say is to buy it and play around. If you don't like your results, sell it back.

I really haven't noticed a difference in Tatami and no Tatami. Seriously tempted to just go back to my Viking Shield.

It should be the STR+ stats you're really after, the killer effect is just good to have.

            Re: Tatami Shield

Yay!!! I got the Tatami Shield for 2,999,890!!!
It's not that I had 3 mils, but paied 110 gils less.
2,999,890 actually was the all money I had :p

Killer effect bonus is not something that I can notice.
But I like the looks and to know that I have more killer effect bonus.

I was testing out Tatami Shield and found out something surprising!
With Tatami Shield, anything except beastman gets intimidated!!!
Arcana and undead were intimidated when I was testing it out yesterday.
I'm guessing demon and dragon would get intimidated too.
I'll test this out next time.
So far, I like this shield so much.
I now decided that my next merit will be killer effect

Do you think bst af pants help the tatami shield effect on arcane and others?

The costumed Mamool Ja man, from a certain quest in Whitegate, is also intimidated while wearing the Tatami. Not sure what killer affect would apply in that situation though.

                    Re: Tatami Shield

I have noticed the increase in Intimidation Rate from my shield. And yes, you get intimidation on all creatures now. As far as I know, that luxury doesn't extend to the AF pants though, I think it only affects those killer effects that a BST gets in Job Traits. Tatami lets you intimidate just about everything. I had a RDM cast refresh on me once and become intimidated. That was because he was wearing the Crimson gear, which in effect makes him dragon-like. I thought that was hilarious when it happened!

                      Re: Tatami Shield

For a while I've been wanting a Tatami Shield, but when the moment came where I had the gil, I couldn't pull the trigger. I couldn't justify spending 2.6mil on a shield that I'd only use when soloing and may even get for free down the road if I can convince my LS to fight the NM. The plus STR is nice, but the only time I'd be using a shield and actually be DD with it, I'd rather have a Viking Shield since +12 Attack owns the crap out of +5 STR. So I used the gil to get a Viking Shield instead. Being level 45, I can use the thing for 50 cap and above missions which is nice. Nice to finally see a different model than my Balance Buckler I've used for 32 levels. When I ding 73, I'll probably pick up a Tariqah since the +4 Accuracy can't be beat for soloing, plus the thing just looks damn cool and screams Beastmaster. The Tatami looks like a damn TV Tray.

The trigger item costs you money though :/
HQ one that makes it 100% drop is over 1.5 mils.
I decided to just buy the shield because the trouble to gather so many people and have them spend their time worths over 1.5 mils (3 mils for the shield minus 1.5 mils for trigger item).

Also, Tatami sheild looks like Tatami :p

Well, that's if you for some reason feel the need to pop with the HQ. With a good LS, the NM isn't all that tough and few pops with an NQ shield will probably net you a shield or two. Also not that hard to farm up the lumber yourself if you know a high level woodworker. I've even heard of 6 Beastmasters taking him down.

I've tried farming... It took 3 hours to get 1 drop. Since I need 2 to make 1 trigger item, I was thinking 6 hours for 1 trigger. If I want 3 of them, it's 18 hours... My LS members went to fight NM recently and got only 1 out of 5 pops. So, I gave up.

Paying 1.5+ mils for 18 hours of work was worth it to me, but I could've been just unlucky.
Paying another 1.5 mils for saving 15 or so players' time to help was worth it to me.
So, 3 mils for the shield really worth it for me.
But I guess everyone thinks differently.
Similar to Hakutaku eye cluster. Some people rather just buy it and some rather farm.
