    Re: Guts

Well technically your pets are the gutsy ones, you just charm em and send em to fight for you while you rest away from danger or just melee for a bit so you dont get hate.

Now if you tell me you solo VT+ stuff without any help from a pet then that's a proof of gutsy guts indeed!

Edit> Oh btw I'm not bashing on BSTs, but when someone says stuff like:

Can you even stand to watch 6 people kill a bunny? or a worm? or a crab?

I usually find myself cheering for the mob in those cases....

Do you find yourself laughing at the parties that hang out right at the zone line and never see the inside of the zone? or the other side of the zone? Don't they look like they're just waiting to bolt at any second, any little thing that goes wrong?

    In short, {Guts} {Do you need it?}
I think, if he can laugh at 6 ppl xp parties then I can laugh at the guy that just keeps sending pet after pet while he is safe from hate, and yet still claims he is the one killing the mobs.

      Re: Guts

See, now that's what I was looking for, and I was wondering the same thing myself.

I don't go anywhere without a pet, and I don't do anything without a pet, so technically I'm never soloing.

But really, do you ever think about 6 people getting together to send one guy out to ambush something and trick him back into your buddy's area so you can all gang up on him? If that happened irl, wouldn't that be kinda disgraceful?

It's the "give me xp no matter what" attitude that led me to BST in the first place. People just didn't have fun grinding, and they made sure everyone knew it.

Don't you notice that your LS is basically the place you go to to bitch about the people in your pt and the stupid thing they did? And that you and your LS don't xp together for just that reason?

To clarify a fight, I'm always in the thick of it, probably more so than I should be, and at imminent peril at all times. I'm using T pets to blow up Snolls, I stay away from the fight, but it does get a little hairy when the Snoll berserks instead of blows up and it and your uncharmed T pet come hoppin around the corner at you, especially with links.

And the only time I've ever sent pet after pet after pet into a fight was soloing Dabotz Ghost...that's kinda standard operating procedure for BST "soloing" NMs

Normal fight, I'm killing off whatever my pet and I are fighting, for obvious reasons, and I rarely if ever use more than one pet per mob, but your point is well taken that my pet does more damage than I do, and posts on internet boards less.

The normal parties imho do not go deeply into zones; perhaps they do at later levels than I played with them, but even then sneak/invis/bitch through a zone to set up at a known safe camp--that aint' gutsy, and I was looking for gutsy.

Perhaps you could post some gutsy things your 6 man party did? Or you did without a 6 man pt?

That's kinda the point of this post^^

Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. For example, my current camp is in CN using lizard vs. lizard. Pet and prey aggro and link, so I have to try keep Sneak on the entire time. I have to balance hate carefully so that I can get my prey's attention any time I need to, so I can manouver them around other mobs to make safe pet swaps. I need to be aware of when respawns will happen to avoid links and I have to be careful where I rest as there are other aggroing mobs around. There are no safe runs to zone if anything goes wrong. There are occasionally farmers in the area who will stop me from keeping track of what mob goes down when.

Admittedly, there are occasions when all we do is throw pets at mobs while we stand back and rake in the xp, but they are few and far between.
I have heard that those who celebrate life

When they go into battle, they remain unharmed,
the animals find no place to attack them
and weapons are unable to harm them.
Why? Because they find no place for death in them.

So the old BST isn't solo arguement rears it's ugly head again. So.....SMN/DRG/PUP, are they solo? How about a melee without his weapons or a silenced mage, since our #1 weapon does not count.

Well, he clearly stated he wasn't trying to bash BST. But it's not really fair to poke fun at traditional partying just because you guys do things differently.

Personally, I think a well oiled 6 man party is a thing of beauty. Not to in any way demean how BSTs get their kicks, because I certainly give them a lot of credit for what they do, but I just happen to love seeing six different jobs come together and really make things work. It doesn't always happen, but it can, and does frequently enough that I can't really say there's anything wrong with that style of play.

Oh totally. Complete props to any high level BST who managed to get that high doing things the hardest way possible in this game. I envy them their patience and skill. Plus, it seems like a really rewarding way to play in the long run.

Ahahahaha I just remembered something that I did that wasn't gutsy but cracked me up because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I got soooo lucky and that Galka Fomor BST dropped a little white pair of panties the first time I fought him.

I warped out of there, but had set hp at the Lufaise Meadows entrance, so I twirled into Valkurm and said, what the hell, and put em on. Them and nothing else.

I then walked, not ran, through Valkurm with Brigid's idea of a good time (Beak Jerkin??? Don't you know that's level 58 you little {Bio}tch???), and proceeded to walk all the way to Bastok Markets.

Now, if you want to get /checked a whole bunch, walk through town in orich{tab} subligar.

Did get a buncha BSTs /congratulating me though^^

BST isn't the only job thats good at soloing. I think my red mage dose a faierly good job of it. I have nice selction of spells plus I have BST, WAR & RANG all leveled up to make decent subs depending on whare I'm going and I've made some realy psyco runs for my level just to see whats out there.

I sooooo have to do that . I'm dreading dinging 52 (not that I'm levelling just now, as I have a million and three other things I'm doing just now) in case I get a level 60 item...

I have a great deal of respect for solo RDMs. Anyone who stands in front of a mob and basically says "I'm going to kill you now. Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough." gets much kudos from me .

Soloed San d'Orian Mission 6-1 as 70BST. It's a cactuar in the desert that spams 1000 needles. Was a tough fight, but after 15 min I had finally conquered it. I used CC to tank at first, then when CC was down, I threw local pets at it until my Call Beast timer was back up. 1000 needles spam would tear up pets really quickly, none of my jugs lasted long enough to build to 100 tp for a sic attack. When I was done with the fight, I warped back to sandy feeling proud ^^

                            Re: Guts

Well as for BST not liking to take on multiple mobs. I've done it before on more than one occassion. My favorite is when I picked up three bombs in the Citadel behind banishing gate #2.

MAN that was a fun fight. Zoning was not an option. And neither was dying. I didn't have RR up (dumb me) and it took me all kinds of hell to get behind that gate to get the good exp. Man that was alot of running around. And those bombs just didn't want to blow up.

I've also thrown on NIN sub and farmed some. Took on 5 EP. Charmed one and throw it on another as the rest linked. When it was almost dead I released and all four came at me. Charmed another threw it at the other three. Killed weak one in one hit. Released the other pet when near dead...and yeah you get the drill.

But you mentioned you had a partner. There were many times where we had like MASSIVE links. Usually I'll fight one pet and my partner will accidently thing I meant another and we end up having to solo our mobs but in the middle of trying to help each other we pick up a link or two. Most I've done in a duo is five mobs. My partner would throw pets on three to keep them busy. I solo'ed two. And then I pulled one of his and he went off with his two and I made short work of the one I had.

Yeah BST ROCK when it comes to add.

And to the person who said BST's pet do all the risk work. That's SO not true. BST is not as simple as throw a pet on it and let the exp roll in. BST are generals and the mobs of a zone our army. Like generals command their soildiers in battle, yes the soilders do a majority of the fighting but its the general that provides the strategy and tactics to keep themselves and their men alive.

BST is no different. There is a reason why BST has such a steep learning curve. Each new zone is a new battlefield. New sets of rules to learn, new mobs to gauge. EM mobs are not all greated equal. Some EM's are weaker than others of a different species. Different aggro ranges. I mean its crazy sometimes the lengths BST go for some decent exp.

You don't say to a doctor "Man you're not such a good surgeon. You scalpel does all the cutting for you. Lets see you do that with your bare hands and maybe I'll change my mind."

Charming is a tool. Like a doctors scalpel it takes skill and understanding to use it properly.

Oh how many have solo'ed Steelfleece at under lvl 60?
                            ME!
                            Gutsy fight! Yup!

                            Gutsier even?
Who duo'ed Bloodtear as a lvl 50ish BST and 50'ish BLM?
ME! GREAT fight. Best fight ever! Well it really wasn't a duo. Started out with just me and the BLM. And yeah I'd throw a jug pet on it and then we'd run around like chickens with our head cut off for the 2 minutes till my call pet timer was ready again. As the fight went on we just started inviting everyone who passed by just for fun. It was about an hour long fight. My pet was the only way of dealing damage to it and it was SLOW everyone else was on cure/bind/raise duty. Just an over all great Epic fight.

Solo'ing Goblinsavior Harinox in Gustav lvl 47-48 (Every BST should do this)

Solo'ing Jaggedy Eared Jack at lvl 66. (EPIC BATTLE! 2 hours long! I tried to kill him by just using charm. When it wasn't working I tried running all over the zone to make him tired. Eh, bad plan. So I smacked it with my axe, fight over. I think all that running around made him drop the charm somewhere on the ground cause it didn't drop for me ><)

Well. If you go solo "Wings of Fury" is you against 3 bats lol. In this situation is not only about throwing pets @ the mobs lol.

Also BST is not only about throwing pets @ a mob.. There is a soloing skill in this game that a BST has to master.. I tell you guys… I have met a bunch of people that have high lvl jobs and they don’t even have a clue on how to control hate lol. I shake my head when I have to tell them "Stop hitting the mob so as for it to start attacking my pet" lol

When you are soloing a NM like Destop(Sky NM) you do throw birds @ it but you are so nervous the whole time coz your afraid of a failed charm lol.. been there.. Im like 7/0 on desktop and every time im freaking during the fight lol.
