I've heard from many career BSTs that they basically don't ever farm. Between all the drops and seals, and not having anyone breathing down your neck to get the expensive gear and use expensive food, it's a pretty self-sufficient job.

just some fyi. in the beginning levels, 3k/hr might be a bit high. i think its best not to keep ur mind on how much xp/hr you want to get but to stay alive and minimize your deaths. that, more than anything else imo, slows down bst in the early levels.

antidotes can be bought for really cheap too at outpost vendors and shops.

also, note that all enfeebling and magic skills are cut in half. dont expect to land para/slow/etc too often. might not be so bad in the beginning but i dont even bother with them now. if anything i'll cast bio or dia. the rest, i just save my mp for other spells.

I can say from experience that you won't need to farm at all for gear if you are happy with NQ gear. NQ gear is just fine for soloing and you don't NEED anything better. Also, if you get lucky with BCNMs you might even earn enough for excellent HQ gear. I know some BSTs who were able to get enough gil from the seals they obtained through regular leveling as BST to buy a Hauby or other spendy equipment (snipers, apollo's, etc.). I personally haven't been as lucky with my BCNMs and have spend a fair amount of time farming and crafting to earn enough gil to get some nice gear. But really nice gear is not a requirement. As a solo BST, you only need nice enough gear to make YOURSELF happy.

Also, I don't think beastmen seals drop any more often off of beastmen. For me they drop well off all mob types.

A level 67BST / 75RDM in my LS told me they did, even if its only noticeable by a little bit.

So /WHM is pretty much just for Cure and what.. Stoneskin? Just helps with the downtime?

/whm mainly for cures, auto-regen, regen, -na spells, stoneskin and blink. later on you can tele yourself around too.

As Bst/Nin I usually don't try to debuff at all. I just keep utsusemi up and wail away on the mob with my pet. With the dual axes you can pull hate pretty easily if your pet misses a few times, I think the debuffs might give us too much hate, but I haven't really tried it. Now for fighting mobs where you don't fight along side your pet (bombs come to mind), I think I would use some of the ninjutsu debuffs, although I wonder how often it would get resisted...

just rape anything and everything that is ep-em. dont die and this will be your less stressful way at reaching the promise land (lv. 35) also, when you get reward and are able to charm any type of leeches, you can try charming a T or VT leech, 2hr it, and proceed to exterminate the whole zone. bring plenty of food to keep ur leech in good health. you'll get lower xp for using a T pet and not releasing but at the rate you can plow thru everything (u can also melee from the start b/c ur pet will be holding hate easily from the 2hr). i did this in valkrum and qufim and get rack in aruond 1-1.5k xp in 30min.

Also, if u are able to get some friends, do the escort quests. use the scroll on ur bst. any little bit helps!

Stoneskin, Blink, Cures, status removal spells, and the odd Raise for a duo partner
(@50BST/25WHM). WHM sub truly has a lot to offer, and is why it is generally the hands
down solo pick. NIN sub can excel in certain camps of course, but is a bit more limited
than WHM sub is, although WHM sub folks are always looking over their shoulder for
magic aggro mobs... NIN sub folks always look for shadow stripping abilities.

WHM sub is the premier downtime reducer, NIN sub is the premier downtime preventer.
Both cut downtime in their own way.

If you solo, play the job because you love it! That's the only real requirement. =)

I do like it so far, even though I havn't been able to find a really good place to level yet, but I think this is just the trial period for me. I keep getting stuck between toughs and decents and thats no fun.

I do need to stay away from the AH though, I tend to buy +1 stuff... alot. So sue me.

Hope Rings, Bone Axe + 1, Aspis + 1 (from my pally), and anything I can see with +CHR or +MP on it.

Having a good time so far though.
