  • When Magmatic Crawlers go BAD!

Something i discovered last night as I was soloing in the same spot i have been for a few days...

I have been using Magmatic Crawlers vs Magmatic Crawlers in Halvung. At 74 I can still find plenty of EMs and Ts there, with the occasionaly T Friar as well. I had been leveling for maybe an hour or so when i noticed that it was Fire Weather.

Up until this point i had only seen the occasional Earth Weather and thought very little of it. The spot that the Earth Ele popped in my camp was not replaced with a Fire Ele, so I charmed a Crawler and went to work as normal... and then.

As SOON as i Fought the Pet Crawler on the Tough Crawler it used Cocoon... ok... i can tell you that I was positive I hadn't even used this particular Crawler as a pet yet. So i assumed that perhaps it had beaten down a poor mining fool and got himself some TP. Just after it used its ability i check my <pettpp> macro and notice... Pet TP = 294. Wow... umm...

Then i notice that the prey Crawler is SPAMMING skills. Since i had Sic up i use it, and my Crawler fires off another Ability. Immediately after i check its TP again... Pet TP = 300%

    O.o!

So, I think that either A) the Fire Based Crawlers get a SERIOUS buff when its Fire Weather (which like i said has only happened once since i have been there the last 2-3 nights) or B) its a crazy bug. I am leaning towards A though because it does make sense.

So, while it does seem kind of handy... i nearly was kacked because the Prey was just spamming Incinerate and handed my Crawler its ass in no time, leaving me scratching my head and eating a few Incinerates myself!

    Ouch!

So, be warned =) Magmatic Crawlers + Fire Weather = OOOOOH!

Re: When Magmatic Crawlers go BAD!

Hello Graellin! It is confirmed that the Halvung and Zhayolm crawlers will react to Fire weather with instant TP, haste and potentially regen (to be proven yet). Witnessed this over and over ourselves last night ^^ Yea we had the bad luck to get 2 fire weathers within the span of 3 hours ; ; So out party mate checked out some JP websites and translated their findings to us and it matched everything that we saw. We were beating these down really fast though, so I cant really say for the Regen right now. One thing for sure, Incinerate is higher damage during fire weather regardless of your current resistance to fire element

I will make sure i direct my LS mate to this (and other posts) since he cried "GLITCH!" the moment i brought it up. Hehe, made perfect sence to me however.... Firey Scary Place + Firey Weather + Firey Crawlers... yup. Made sense =)

        Thank you for posting this!

I've been XPing in Halvung a few times and I have been trying to figure out why Incinerate occasionally just decimates my pet, and why some other times, it does piddly for damage.

My current working theory was that it operated much like Bomb Toss - the amount of damage dealt was proportional to the HP of the mob at the time. However, on very rare occasions, that theory was smashed when an enemy with 35% HP left would Incinerate my pet for like 600+ damage. I will be looking for Fire Elemental effect from now on when stuff like this happens.

PS: If anyone knows whether or not my "theory" on Incinerate damage is right, please confirm or deny it!

Miffee, yes! We confirm that Incinerate damage theory ^^ as we have come to the same conclusion as well. We have been exping off these fire crawlers for 3-4 days now and killed 'MANY' oh dear so many and the conclusion we came up with is at 60%hp and up, the crawlers will do maximum damage on Incinerate, below that the damage lessens and lessens.

Re: When Magmatic Crawlers go BAD!

I would support that as well. I did indeed notice the ramp down in Incinerate Damage while the pets were below 60% as opposed to 60%+ HP. Seeing a 600+ Incinerate on the T Crawler is quite nice. The camp was quite good to me at 74.

By the way Miffee, not entirely sure where you are but this may help.

            Using FFXI-Atlas as a reference.

(and btw... not sure about you, but Sanction + Refresh = Yum)

I would enter Bhaflau from the Whitgate entrance near the North Docks. A quick run across and you are at the Halvung (N-5) zone. I would head southwesterly to (H-8). There is where i did 73-74. The Crawlers there will spawn from DC -T to 74. In addition, when i felt like it i would also blow up the Friars nearby at (I-8/9) which also would Con as DC -T. I would use either the Crawlers in my camp, or the Crawlers on the East side of the "Fire Chasm". Worked quite well.

At 74 these Crawlers seem to drop to DC with the occasional EM. ; ; So I did a bit in Bibiki, then... running around, and then going to check out a Moblin Millionaire on my Widescan (ended up not being a millionaire at all... dropped 97 gil >.<) i noticed the potential camp at (H-5).

If you look at the map, you will see a couple T intersections there. One leading West to a dead end/one way drop and another to the south leading West to two Gates and East to a circular room with 3 Trolls. Those two "halls" are home to about 8 Crawlers. There is also a 9th on the long path at G-4 as well as a Friar Bombface. I easily did 2-4k there depending on how they popped. Seemed to have much more luck with EMs and Ts here but there are still Ts. I may have just been unlucky when i conned the 73 Camp finding all DCs... but who knows.

Before my trip to the Caedarva Imp Farm i did 20k here over the course of a couple days. Sanction + Refresh = a nice addition for both 10% XP incr. and the unresting Refresh (2 MP per sec with Gaudy). The 100 Imperial Standing that it sets you back is easily made back during XP.

So i hope that helps you out a bit. I am going to go back to the camp tonight and see if its doable for a bit of XP at 75. I should really get a bit more than 204 Buffer... since I tend to die at only the WORST possible times.

            Good luck out there!

Graelinn, can you explain the sanction + refresh thing? I havent done much venturing or xping in the new areas thus far. so do you get a xp bonus (not including empress ring, can it stack?) and an extra +1mp on refresh?!

Re: When Magmatic Crawlers go BAD!

To my knowledge and personal experience, Sanction XP Bonus and Ring Bonus do not stack. Sanction seems to be abotu a 10% bonus (145 XP with, 130ish without).

In addtion you can pay 100 IS (Imperial Standing) for one of the following:
                Regen
                Refresh
                Extended Food Effect Duration

I have only ever used the Refresh, but my guess is Regen is exactly the same (and I am curious to see if the Rune Axe "trick" would be viable even without Gaudy), no idea how long the Food Effect is extended.

When i have refresh, it seems to Refresh to nearly 75%. I first thought it was a set amount because I was wearing my Melee Set which gives my poor Galka ass a total of 99+ MP and it would refresh to around 80ish. I then noticed that when i switched to my charm set (which has something like 150 MP) that the refresh kicked in again so it is obviously a precentage of Max MP.

Last night in Caedarva the SMN i was with tested it for the first time and as I assumed it would (because i got +2MP per tick until 49 with Gaudy), it stacks with any other Refresh you may have, be it Yinyang, food, drinks, etc.

The 100 IS is mimimal really if you are getting even decent XP. As a Solo BST i was able to make that back quickly, so in a PT it should be even faster.

Well worth it. All in all i am about 14,000 IS from my Turban (I want to earn it not "buy" it) and that is even with me spending 100 on Refresh Sanction every time i XP.

                Hope this helps.

that's pretty awesome. +2 mp refresh from 0-49 then +1 up to 75% max mp is crazy. I can't wait till I reach a level where I can xp in the new areas. Currently sitting at 56.

BTW its not obvious to some, but the Refresh lasts as long as Sanction does. So I found myself easily going a full RR Gorget charge and then some before Sanction wore off. I managed to get the SMN last night hooked on Sanction Refresh too. =)

I am also assuming that as your Mercenary Rank goes up, that Sanction will last even longer, much like Signet and Nation Rank. It will be interesting to see (knock on wood however) what happens to Sanction if Al Zahbi ever loses Beseiged and our Shiny Shiny gets yoinked!

Thanks for the camp info Graelinn! I'll be sure to check it out when I hit 74.

I'm only 71 right now, camping at the entrance around M-7 from the Thickets. I'm using bats and crawlers as pets, and fighting the bats, crawlers and one Qiqirn that spanws nearby. It's not bad, right around or just over 2k/hour. I've actually found that the secret to getting good xp in this location is to make sure that the last purgatory bat you come to before the two crawlers next to the pool of lava is EM. Just fight the crawlers in their spawn locations and then release your pet and pull to the EM bat to finish him off.

I'm chain 4-ing pretty well here with that strategy.

And yes... Sanction refresh bonus = delicious
