Re: Build for a soloing BST?
Subjob selection isn't as limited as people think. Pre-50, /whm annoyed me because of the downtime of regenning MP...so I went 39-50 as /nin.
/nin requires finesse and is rather different from /whm in terms of fighting. I actually tried to get hate, sometimes, because I could take 3 hits without damage...and those 3 hits helped extend a pet's life. Overall, if things go well, you can level a long time without taking much, if any damage...and continue levelling with half HP, if the situation is stable. Of course, getting that HP back takes quite a bit more time, and if you _need_ it back fast, well...{That's too bad}. Links, agro, and aoes strip your defenses away, and then you're more helpless than /whm...aka screwed in some cases. Another advantage of /nin is two axes, which is double-damage when you first engage. If you have the accuracy for it, and time the mob's health just right before using Leave, you can insta-kill your target even without any TP. I did that alot in the first floor of garlaige against skeletons. (Early 40s, the first floor is a good camp and can result in solo chain5s sometimes...all the agro is in rooms, except for beetles...and you have Tonko before WHM gets invisible.)
NIN is good for camps without sound agro, and if you're not wanting to melee mobs that AOE. You can sometimes run from AOE, like a goblin's bomb toss, or only melee for the very last moment with a well timed Leave.
Past 50, /whm became very attractive again because of two things: auto-regen, which heals you at 1 hp a tick, and the gaudy harnass...this body armor gives you refresh up to 49 MP, which is plenty MP for regen sneak cure3 whatever. Since 50 I've been levelling in crawler's nest and behind the banishing gate at at garlaige, which are full of sound-agro mobs, so, /nin is out because I don't want to spend a fortune on sneak oils. I'll be looking for more /nin friendly camps at a later time, though, because I just like the playstyle better.
Also, I know a galka who got to 48 solo as bst/mnk... /blu looks like it might be very good too.
