i recently changed over to bst/nin for an xp session and i find it pretty useful.
i like that i dont have to worry about my mp after every few battles. @37, i have 99mp with /whm. having to rest that every few battles is a pain. my last session, i brought some hp regen drinks and always have those on during non-fighting times. i also like how my fights are shorter now.

my question is, as you get higher up, does bst/nin and having 3 shadows and extra atk power provide more benefit than /whm? what are the resident bst masters take on this?

I found bst/nin in a duo could be workable and I actually found the dual wield made it easier to keep hate off me simply because I had longer delay. However that was very situational and I should stress that it was in a DUO. Two pets hold hate better than one.

If you are using hp drinks that can help lessen the rest periods but don't forget that after lvl 50 bst if you have whm lvld you will get auto hp regen. Nin can be a lot of fun in an exp situation but it's not the best sub imo. But if you are soloing and having fun do what works for you. It can take a bit of time to learn to use nin but I think it can be done well.

most places you exp at later on require you to have invis or sneak. an sometime both. an with silent oils being 20k a stack, an inv being 15k a stack. you will go thru them real fast. thus wasting all that gil on oils. B.O at 54 needs sneak. Q.C needs sneak. an so on.

right now you dont fight mobs that have sick AOE attacks. i mean the hellmines dropped me with a 900+ explodes. not to mention gob bombs. an other AOE atks. so if you manage to survive them. thats alot of downtime just trying to get all that hp back.

after 51 darkstaff helps get mp back pretty fast, an /whm gets auto regen, plus regen spell. means you spend less mp to heal you hp.

In addition to everything that has been said, you'll also be able to wear a Gaudy Harness at level 50, which reduces downtime tremendously.

From Lv.48 to Lv.53 the same Taru BST/NIN kept inviting me to his party. Always a NIN tank, and twice there was a second BST/NIN in the party. They'd Leave the mob just before the kill, and the EXP just flew! Was a great time!

Outside of that, that's the only time I've heard/seen of BST/NIN. BST75 in my LS didn't even bother to level NIN for his WAR sub, (Also a MNK67) let alone for BST.

i like the quickness of /nin. kill the mobs faster. less downtime if played correctly, especially on pet swaps where i can tagged once or twice. 3 shadows definately helps out nicely.

i wonder if any bst use it to lvl at 74-75/merits? if u arent taking hate, thats constant protection with utsusemi save aoe. more atk power, quicker xp/merits no?

              aoe is a bitch though.
having a great time so far now that i have reached the promise land of post-35.
bst is truely a different job after this.

just finished up a pt with a bst/nin, bst/whm, an bst/whm. an to be honest i got real tired of healing the bst/nin. do to gear choices he wasnt doing more damage then i was. but when the lizard in the range casted AoE spells. i found myself an the other bst/whm using twice as many cue spells to keep his health up.

its my op, but you are limiting certain areas you may exp in later on. mobs tend to use more AoE spells. your not gonna be solo fighting hornflies or goblins in gustav tunnels with a /nin sub. a goblins bioII, or bombtoss will cost you big d-time. something regen an a cureII would rule out. not to mention poisiona for AoE attack by those flies.

i didn't really get much use out of /nin until i went to sky at 72. the magic aggro there makes /whm kind of dangerous. i've duoed with a bst/nin before and it worked pretty well.

i guess it's good for certain siuations but i like my Gaudy Harness too much to sub Ninja most of the time.

yea i started to feel some of the downsides to /nin recently. i hit 40 as was looking for a nice place to xp so i headed to yuntunga. along the western edge, about 2/3 down the map there is a large open area with soldier crawlers and goblin poachers/robbers. melee is fine till he drops a bomb. even with fire resistance items, still hits me for 130~ even with hp regen, it was annoying.

on my way to 40, i fought mostly beasts and vermin, even with aoe it wasnt so bad. looks like im back to /whm soon unless i find a nice spot with utsusemi blockable mobs.

                      Omni,

A friend of mine exp'd with me before as a BST/NIN at 65. To say the least, that was probably one of my most entertaining parties to date. We had a great flow of exp and never had any issues with adds (Boyhada Tree)

A BST makes a better puller than even a RNG, since not only do they both have widescan and can track beasts, but the BST has an added ability to shed accidental links in a heartbeat if needed. Once engaged in battle, a BST does more damage than DRGs in their current form (Pet + BST damage) and they can take the place of a WAR/NIN with the right equipment (Tip: BSTs can wear the same equipment that both WAR and DRK can wear which should already give you major MAJOR hints about how they can perform as DD in a normal party) Plus, not to mention BSTs having killer traits against pretty much any non-beastmen mob in this game and that should already seal the deal.

A BST can use leave and recycle his pet in this manner. They should be able to find any Decent Challenge mob in the area where the party is fighting or use a jug, failing that.

I think the important thing to remember is that if you have both NIN and WHM (and other jobs too) leveled up for subjobs, it's great to be able to choose which one to use depending on where you're going and what you're fighting. I mean if I could only choose one subjob it would be /WHM but there's a few places where I thought /NIN was better.
