    I usually grab an even to kill toughs. If it looks like the even is getting destroyed by the tough too fast, I'll cast dia and fight with it for awhile, then back off to let my pet die. I stay away from charming toughs since they usually uncharm in the middle of the fight and I think it causes a greater xp loss if it doesn't die before the attacking mob does.

    The general idea pre-35 is to have your pet die when the attacking mob has a sliver of HP left, avoiding the 30% xp loss. At 35 you get the skill "Leave" which allows you to release your pet without getting aggro from it. Assuming at lvl 35 your attacks don't draw hate away from your pet, I guess you could charm a tough, fight with it, and release it when the attacking mob has a sliver of HP left, and finish it off on your own. I have no idea if this works since I only have bst to 18, but it seems possible.

      It works, but your exp would be bad in most cases. Lets say that you charm a tough to fight an Even Match. Your full exp normally from an EM would be 100 right? It would only be 70 if your pet was still alive. However... if you charm a tough, it is a higher level than the even match, and whether you still have it as a pet or not at the end of the fight, it will still penalize you, and you get lower exp. In other words, its best not to charm toughs, until you meet a few pre-requisites.

      1) Have at least some AF which increases charm duration.
      2) You are fighting mobs that are several levels above you, so having a tough wont mean a huge hit to exp.
      3) You get light staff (lvl 51) for increased charm success
      4) Emergency where its either charm the tough or die ; ;
      5) Level 35 for leave. This way if you NEED to charm a tough mob, at least you can release it before it comes uncharmed.

      Bottom line, avoid charming tough mobs as much as you can. Evens are obviously your target, with Decent challenge being next best.

        You charm a Decent or Even match pet, and fight T (sometimes VT in certain places).

          yeah e.p to fight e,p or to fight d/c. d/c to fight d/c or to fight a evan match. evan match vs evan match. or vs a tough. to charm a tough is not even worth the time or effort. i only charm them as a last resort. usually when im fleeing a mob.

          sometimes though i have to take an evan match an mass kill all the d/cs an ep. to me its alot faster then waiting for a d/c to die against a d/c..
