  • Nub Bst :\

so... after much thinking ive deciced to start on my bst as a long term job, ive unlocked the job and started leveling my gimped whm :\

thanks to the information on the forum ive got a pretty good idea where to go and what monsters to charm/kill
but istill dont know how to "kill" as a bst.

id like for you to help me get into the role of a bst more easyly, and to perform efficiently :|

id love some pre-release strategies as well as some post/release ones...

any tips & recomendations are appreciated

As i understand it from reading these forums..

1-10: Just pretend you are a warrior

At 10 you get heel that tells your pet to stop attacking, when you do that you go out and charm a mob (i am assuming decent or even) and have it attack an even (or maybe even a tough) and have it hit some and then tank for you while you melee, then right before the mob dies you tell the pet to stop attacking, and wait for the mob to kill it, then you finish the mob off, and repeat.

AFAIK you do that untill 35, when you get release, then what you do is the same as above but instead of waiting for the pet to die, you release it, wait a few secs, then use a WS to finish off the mob, then recharm the pet *who has healed itself up some by now*. This ofcorse means that your old pet has landed a few hits on you, so thats where the /whm sub comes in.

    That how it works?

(im a soon to be bst=P I ran away from the anoyances of mid to settel down in a nice and cozy asura where i plan to spend my time slowly soloing ^^)

That's right. 1-10 fight without pets as it's easier, just as with any job. Then from there use Heel with your pet after it's brought the mob's life down to almost nothing, so the mob will finish off your pet, and then you can kill it. Once you get Stay, you can use Heel+Stay too. Make sure you use Heel from a distance away or you get hate, and the mob will come for you rather than finishing your pet.

At 35, you get release and it's *tons* easier. :]

So far with BST the mobs have a tough time holding hate. I end up turning around a lot so as not to get anymore.

Does this get better later on?

Oh it gets better. ;x After 30 you'll see an improvement, and your pets will out dmg you a lot.

I just keep my pet before it dies pre-release. It takes forever for the stuipd pet to die, and I can easily get a good 2-3 chains with one pet (and looking for another EM-pet after every fight is very very hard).

it depends on what you fight too.
                as to hate holding

I'm currently throwing DC's and easy prey at IT's and there is no way to melee with my pet even with release.

Hate is relative, and a pet getting hit for 120 a wack while dealing 30 damage will not be able to hold hate from your meleeing no matter how weak you are since pet hate drops to zero

Also, stay way far away from exploding globilins, bombs and other big AOE stuff that can almost 1 shot you. Just bad idea to try and lv your weapon skills on these.

Absolutely massive exp but very little axe skill gain. I'll go lv up my axe and scythe in skill up pt's later or just fight even match vs even match fights somwhere else. You can cap your axe pretty fast on even match fights.

Scythe is still a pain in my side... I think I'll lv up club instead ><

Good. Because I can't imagine fighting monsters later with me tanking instead of my pet

Don't worry, your dmg will be pitiful later compared to even match pets. :\

Gets to a point where you can tell your pet to start fighting and join in instantly yourself, but the pet will keep hate for the entire fight. You'll develop a feel for this as you lvl anyway, and know when you're skirting close to taking hate.
