    I think that if a mon drops a chest key, it won't drop a coffer key.

    I got my key off those beetles in the same area. Down that crazy corridor. Prepare for pops, and links if you do go key hunting there.

      The spot to farm out a Cralwer's Nest coffer key, and perhaps a coffer, is the last map (right at the main egg sack room) and back at the end where the knight crawlers, wespe, crawler hunters and those fly mobs, forget name, live.

      You can combine xp with key hunting back there, but it can be a bit dicey.

      We ended up getting extra keys and popping boxes for hi-reraisers.

        CN Key

        I got my CN coffer key xp'ing in a bst quad at 51-52 fighting Helm Beetles. Everyone in the pt got a coffer key and two coffers popped while we were there. An extra coffer popped and I opened it when another key dropped to get 5k gil for the 3 of us..=)

            after you hit 40 bst, talk to brutus at the chobi stables in upper jeuno. He says something, and then something else, and then something about another thing, possible having to do with old dead pets or something. After all of that somethingness, you need to open a chest in delkfutt's tower, which pop on the 8th-10th floors. gigas and eles up there drop keys. You'll get a key item, silver bell I think. Take it back to Brutus or something for him to tell you another little something before giving you your shiny new axe.

            If that's too much something look up mysterytour on google and find it there, goodluck... or something.

              At lvl 40, it's easier to kill the giants in the basement than the ones on the upper floors. Both drop keys so you might as well go with the ones that are easier to kill.

                Does anyone know what the reward effect on the af jackcoat does?

                I heard it doesn't enhance hp given at all, does it cure an ailment?

                  Re: BST AF information

                  First of all, great job Lily on the main writeup!

                  I'd like to contribute my own gloves section that may clear up some of the later questions too ....

                  AF3 - Beast Gloves (Requirement for the coffers)
                  As the title suggests, this quest has to be opened (but not necessarily completed) before you can open the coffers, although you can get the coffer keys any time.

                  Basically, you can open this at any point after level 41. Go and find Guslam in the armorers shop in Upper Jeuno and talk to him. He will send you to Crawlers Nest where you need to find a coffer key (not chest) if you don't already have one, then find a coffer and open it to get the key item 'old gauntlets'. Return to Guslam and he'll tell you he can't repair them.

                  If this is your first set of AF, you'll need 1000gil for the next part. If this is your second or subsequent set of AF, you can skip this part and go straight to the toolbox. Go to the tenshodo in Lower Jeuno and talk to Yin Pocanakhu who will tell you about a toolbox. You have to pay her 1000 gil for her to 'tell' you where it is - if you don't pay, you won't get the cutscene, sorry!

                  Go to the pile of boxes outside the duty free shop in Port Jeuno (down the stairs furthest from the mog house) and there is a smaller box on top. Click on this for a cut scene with Borghertz himself. He will ask for the gloves and some shadow flames.

                  At this point, the quest is officially open, and you can now go and open the coffers at the various locations.

                  To continue with this quest, you now need to go to Castle Vazhl, to F-8 and examine the torch there. If there are multiple people doing this, only one needs to examine the torch, then you must all examine the same torch after the fight.

                  For those without a map, zone into the castle, go straight forward and follow the path as it turns left and right. Do not turn off, keep following your nose till you come to a closed gate. The torches are the ones to the left of this gate.
                  The torch will spawn Dark Spark, a level 55 bomb type NM:
                  * Notorious Monster
                  * Aggro
                  * Not Linking
                  * Based on Fire
                  * Weak against Ice
                  * Weak against Water
                  * Strong against Fire
                  I'm not going to reproduce all of the stuff on Allah here since they say he's everything from cake to impossible, here's a link to it so you can check it out yourself: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=1518

                  When I did Dark Spark with a full party; it took about 8500 total damage to kill it, compare this with the Werebats in Bostanieux Oubliette, the T's take from 4-6k damage and the VTs take from 6-10k damage to kill. Unfortunately there are no dark aspics in Vazhl

                  Once you have defeated Dark Spark, everyone (and this quest is the same for ALL jobs, so there may be a few) needing this must check the torch again and make sure you check the same torch that was examined to spawn the NM.

                  Now simply return to the box outside the duty free to get another cutscene and your gloves.

                  These are level 54, Def: 12 HP: 11 DEX: 3. Parrying skill +5, Charm +3

                  Double Post Edited:
                  As a quick afterthought, re the Beast Pants question:
                  I duoed mine with another level 60BST. We cheated slightly by having a level 75SAM clear the room for us beforehand. While we could have cleared it ourselves, by the time we killed the last haunt, the first one was repopping

                  Once the room was clear, we simply charmed a tiger each, familiared them and let rip. It was all over in under 2 minutes and we got the cutscene and were outta there before the haunts repopped!

                  Hope that helps!

                    Re: BST AF information

                    Since its been a while since this was last asked...has anyone tried duoing (58BSTx2) the pants via charming the two tigers and turning them on the hound?

                    I checked the levels of the 3 mobs on wiki and it seems doable, but I'd like to get info on if its actually doable.
