  • How do you think Beast Tamers will do in a PvP scenerio

My personal opinion is that this game was never designed for PvP.
PvP in games which weren't designed for PvP have too many issues really...
If tame works on PCs and it's not very resistable, I'd imagine that BST with the only charm ability could have some interesting possibilities. I would however fear rangers the most

He might have already known this. But since it isn't Pk oriented then how would a Bst do? Like how would you use it or something. I'm still not sure how the whole system works my self and I would like to know.

To be honest I don't understand how PvP cannot be PK oriented. Perhaps it's just a difference in terminology.
When I see PvP, I think Player vs Player, and direct combat between the (multiple) players.
PK I've typically seen as Player killing, which is generally the ultimate goal of Player vs Player combat; defeating your opponent in a direct combat situation.

PvP without a PK orientation seems to suggest that Players fight each other but without a final defeat? I dunno just seems strange.

Anyways I haven't read up yet so I'll do searches later, just lazy at the moment, but those are my initial thoughts >.>

Well, S-EX said its conquest related.. my guess is your on a timer, and whoever gathers the most CP points before it runs out, wins.

When I think non-PK-oriented PvP, a couple of ideas come to mind. Think the overt/covert system that SWG uses. Perhaps, when a player has sigil cast on him by his home nation, he would be overt, and therefore killable by players of other nations that have sigil cast on them. This would make for some interesting twists, such as city raids, while eliminating the rogue PK factor, because of the long journey required to get from one city to the next.

Another idea is one-on-one consensual duels. It would work like the PT invite menu, except you are invited to a duel, either against a person or an entire party.

The final idea, and my personal favorite because of its previous involvement in Squaresoft games, is the battle arena, such as the one from FF6. Players use the arena like they would the auction house, presenting an item to be bidded on. When a player finds an item from another player he thinks he might like, and believes he has a chance to defeat the player, he registers to battle. IF the other player excepts, the players are tele'd inside of the arena to duel, and the winner of the match takes both items.

These are my main predictions,. and I would love to have at least one appear in the game. If anybody has any further news on FFXI PvP, I'd love to hear it!

Non PK oriented in no way means you wont kill other players. Look at daoc rvr system, that is non PK oriented PvP.

If there are beasts to charm wherever PvP will take place, I imagine BST will do well. A PT full of BSTs using their 2 hour abilities on IT pets will be nigh undefeatable I think...

It doesn't really matter what you have or how strong the pets are. If they don't do something about the rangers then a group of rangers will beat the pants off of anyone cept maybe another bunch of rangers.... I saw a ranger kill a black dragon with 1 shot that did 1200 damage......... I'm going to go hide in my taru hole now..... rangers =scary unless nerfed in next patch...

That mithra was a BST?!?!?!?!?!?! I thought everyone said mithras were the worst at being bst...

*_* i have new hope now! mwhahah...

but back to the topic, imo, bst should do fairly well in PVP, just cuz its like... well, "2 against 1" ya know? ^^

afaik mithra BST have the same charisma as galka BST at level 60. The difference in my charisma and a galka's charisma at level 60 was 8 (63 vs 55). While 8 does make a notiecable difference, this can easily be countered with items and is definitely not game breaking. There is a lvl 70 mithra BST on lakshmi and a lvl 61 mithra BST.
