  • Bard Enmity Gain?

    I was about to level brd on my taru and was wondering about how much enmity does a song give to a brd? Does it matter on which song skill im using or does it directly corelate to what song im using?
    "Oooo oooo, Mr. GM, that guys fishes a lot.
    Oooo oooo, Mr. GM, that guy camps the guilds all the time.
    You know what?
    Shut the hell up."

    Not sure if anyone has came up with successful way to quantitatively describe enmity, but the Lullaby songs gives the Bard fair amount of enmity, while the Mazurka songs do not (anymore). So, your enmity gain definitely corresponds to which songs you use (and how often).

    Edit:
    In practice, during exp parties up to Lv.30 (how far I got with Bard), the average tanks can keep the monsters away from me 98% of the time. (Not so when I was on DRG or SAM, however, in comparison.)
    Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
    Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
    leaving no trace in the water.

      Hey there's always Foe Sirvente! Not quite enmity gain as it is loss prevention tho..

        Unless I had to sleep a mob multiple times before the party was ready to kill it, one provoke will typically keep it off me. Even after putting Requiem, Elegy and Threnody on it.

        The only time I've had a mob turn on me after the tank had engaged is with Goblins. I'd use Lullaby as a stun if I think any of the party members would of died from it. Occasionally if I'd already pulled, slepted, elegy'd, and Requiemed it, the extra sleep would take hate, but not often.

        Buffs do add to enmity as well. I've noticed if I'm buffing on the pull, and the puller gets in range of the song just as I get my buff off I'll take hate for a second until the tank vokes it off me.

        But from leveling 45 levels of bard now, I've never really had a hard time losing hate except where I had to keep mobs slept for over a minute due to links.

          At lower levels, threnody spam can get you hate as well. I generally only used it to skillup, and the hate pulling was accidental, all though at times I would intentionally use it to pull hate; when the parties weren't lining up correctly I'd try to pull hate with the spam and bring the mob where I wanted the melee to stand. Too bad about the Mazurka patch, or I'd still be able to use that trick in merit parties, because even at level 75 there's still plenty of melee who don't understand how to frickin line up with a BRD; ;

            Shame really, its not so hard to line up, especially when normally its the ones that moan about not getting X buff that are ones who stand next to the frickin mages when the Brd sings Ballad :/

              Haha yes, if I get a party that is too bad about it, I just use one macro that has Ballad 2 and Minuet in it, and cast the same songs on the entire party.

                I remember this one WAR in a roaming TP Burn meripo in Nyzul on birds that for some reason, kept getting in range of Ballad and having one of his Marches overwritten.

                He'd complain so hard that the brd initally stopped chains to shut him up by singing again, till the leader piped up about it.

                  Re: Bard Enmity Gain?

                  In parties that don't know how to line up (which is especially common in ToAU), I sing what's most important - Ballad.

                  I've even had a couple times at the Nyzul birds where I fell off the ledge (I blame Bau) and had no way of getting back, so, since I couldn't get what people wanted, I put on a harp and sang whichever was needed. Half the time I had minuets up, the other half ballad.

                    Re: Bard Enmity Gain?

                    For me the biggest hate builder was lullaby by the simple example that after I stole the NM Bonnacon in Uleguerand Range (Drops the cure clogs) from the RMT's camping it I had to keep it slept and elegy'ed till someone from my ls could come and help me kill it. Well I ended up casting over 45 lullaby's on it by the time a thief could come and by the time it died the hate was still one me after the thief did its normal damage plus weaponskills. So I believe that lullaby is the biggest enmity gain song we have.

                        Yup. That pretty much sums up everything I was going to say.

                        If you seriously expect someone to take hate off 45 lullabies, you're out of your mind.
