Ok. I'm up to 19BRD now, and I'm looking at instruments to have for the future levels. I'm looking at this instrument called Military Harp which gives +2 Finale. I'm wondering... What does the +2 actually do, and does it's benefit outweigh the Magic Accuracy penalty difference between Wind and String considering Magic Finale only very rarely fails?

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
I only got finale resists when I /brd, and very rarely still. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
The Allazites are, of course, in complete disagreement over what it does, but the majority of them say it only affects resists and even then is only useful for removing buffs from monsters like Kirin, so I doubt I'm going to pay 900k for one (the going rate on Asura) since for the moment I'm only using BRD as a sub for RDM for the extra tick of refresh and a little boost to my hastes when there's no Bard in the party.

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
Until you hit end-game, or unless you hit one of the very few enemies that is light-resistant (Tonberries), you generally won't need a Military Harp. It does seem to improve Finale song accuracy a bit over other string intruments (though I'll note that Finale with a wind instrument is just about as good as far as I can tell - i.e. no resists).
With that said, I found it extremely useful for levelling String skill, since Finale is an offensive song with very good success rate naturally. Otherwise you're stuck with things like Ebony Harp for Etude, which doesn't get used nearly as often, and produces much fewer skillups.

And its not only you have to restrict Ebony Harp to Etudes, you can apply it to Finalie anyway, its actually the best way to skill stringed. I think this is the one rare case where BRD is ok to go without an instrument that gives a bonus to a specific sone. Possibly Carol as well, but Finale you can get by with w/o a Military Harp.

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
In my limited BRD experience it seems that overall, in most cases Wind Instruments are generally more accurate, it's possible that the harp brings the accuracy up to the level of your other Wind Instruments, possibly a bit higher, but definitely not worth the price tag.
((Offtopic, I just skill up string by sleeping mobs and playing Threnodies on them over and over until they are about to wake up, I wait a moment, then resleep and repeat.))sigpic

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
So What I'm getting in summary is this:
Military Harp [+2 Finale] - Harp Accuracy = Wind Finale
[roughly Equivalent]
and... for 1mil, it's only truly useful purpose is skilling up String?
I don't think I shall ever possess one of these, as it would be foolish not to sell it

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
I have one and I enjoy it(for some ungodly reason). Yeah I can only remember getting resisted ever on a Goblin in Bibiki and a Weapon in Ro'Maeve before the harp. still with the harp now, I do see myself getting resisted at end-game NM's but that is to be expected I suppose. Normal mobs with or without the harp shouldn't be a problem and only a problem 60+.

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
Ah the garrison when we had 3 military harps in the pool at once - damn that was a good one...
Actually, I'm looking at levelling bard up, and was debating about this, but tbh, I think I will pass for now, and worry when I start getting resisted.

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
Pretty much what Icemage said.
Military > (random harp)
Military = Wind instrument
I have one, but only because it was a gift from a friend when he quit. I'd never buy one, though I'll never sell mine either. It's treasure if you get it for a drop becaues someone will buy it for some huge price regardless of how crap it actually is.

I have one and use it, but only because it was a gift. Otherwise, I couldn't afford to get it because it was really expensive and scary to say the least.

Re: Military Harp: Trash or Treasure?
I believe the most commonly noted use for the Lamia Harp is that it "increases the area of effect of the second song."
I don't know what that means, exactly, but I'm assuming this:
Hidden Latent Effect: While under the effect of a Bard song, the area of effect of the Lamia Harp is increased.
I cannot use my Lamia Harp, yet, so I have no way of verifying this. For me, the primary use of the Lamia Harp was moving it aside so I could have the Siren Flute.
