    Re: Bard Food?

I may catch some flak for this but I really think Opo-Opo Crown is enormously overrated.

You basically give up your head slot + food "slot" for 50HP 50MP and +7CHR. This is ok if you're in a "standard" XP party, but it's not really optimal for other situations such as when you're in a 70+ XP burn party acting as main puller (+DEF is useful here), skillup parties (sushi all the way), or even against some HNMs (depends on circumstances).

It's a very good item, don't get me wrong, but I think the common wisdom that says it's undeniably the best headgear for bards in all circumstances is not always correct.

EDIT: Wow tordall read my mind! o.O

      Re: Bard Food?

      My food list is normally;

Pies +1 for roaming parties. Occasionally Mushroom Stew, because I buy in bulk, and always ave some on me.

Tuna Sushi for Aura Statues, because they suck.

      Mushroom Stew for Jormungand/Tiamat/Ouryu

      Snoll Gelato for max MP.

I suggest checking out Somepage's food info. They have alot of different food choices in which you can use to help customise Bard for whatever you're doing.

        Re: Bard Food?

I ate Rolanberry Pies on my BRD until about the mid-to late 50's for MP (as many people above mentioned), and then switched to Flint Caviar every now and then. I totally agree though that BRD is lucky in that it isn't entirely necessary to eat primary stat boosting food most of the time.

I used Tavnazian Tacos when pulling, though. A few ill timed hits could take me down if I wasn't careful.

          Re: Bard Food?

In all my experience this is how it has worked out for me. I started using Chamomile Tea at about 20 and nothing else before that. I used Cham. tea all the way to the high 60's and switched to Flint Caviar whenever there was no tea on the AH. I have to agree with Consigliere on this one and say that food means almost jack squat to a BRD. If you have the HQ instruments and plenty on CHR from gear then there's almost no point.

MP food hasn't ever helped me because as I see it once you get the first Ballad you're going to have constant MP regen if you play the songs right. And no BRD should really be healing that much if the main healer has any idea what they are doing.

As far as Opo-opo crown goes I think it's way too overrated, sure it looks funny but that's it, the +14 CHR with pamamas is not that big a deal once you're high enough to use it.

All seriousness I didn't bother with food after about 68 and the last time I remember being consistenly resisted on any mob was back in Bibiki Bay at 62. Everyone should be able to get at least +34 CHR without spending much gil at all, and that seems to be plenty. At 51 all BRDs should have Light and Earth staff and sell that Monster Signa because as soon as you get the elemental staves the Moster Signa is just a pretty peice of wood. Once you get to 72+ all BRDs should go for skill where they can because Errant body and legs + Jester's Cape gives more CHR than you need.

That's my experience with BRD. It's always worked for me.

Alot of the +mp and +chr food has already been addressed - but, seeing how your brd is borderline solo/party level, you have a few other choices as well:

Selbina Milk/Au Lait: These offer you some regen to help prevent too much downtime between fights and perhaps take on something a tad bit tougher than maybe you could have. For lower levels I prefer the Selbina Milk since it is relatively inexpensive and stacks, but if you are cooking - you can use the AuLaits that you are skilling up on to help you with this stage.

Juices: Since ballad is level 25, you have a ways to go before you have refresh for you (or the mages in your party) - I recommend leveling your cooking up to at least being able to make pineapple juice in the Dunes/Penn - this will help you maintain a bit more mp, this way you can help the mages with cleanup cures and maybe allow them a bit more resting time to gain mp.

For the CHR - you can get the teas for the mid levels - they do last 3 hours and are considerably less expensive than the sushi or caviar. Then again - it comes down to what foods you prefer for your exp parties. I still like the tuna sushi (only cause I have gotten to where I can make it right now) and may try the others that were suggested for exp parties.

            ^^/ Good luck
I dont suffer from insanity - I enjoy it.
