Every once in a while I'll unequip my instrument so I can hear the Singing. Just to mix things up. Just gotta remember to re-equip it if you want a second effect.

Hmm..well if there's anything they need to change I think it would be the singing. Although the intruments get repetative, the singing is just plain anoying, in my opinion. Especially since I like to WHM/BRD ocasionally for PLing because Ballad does actually help a lot, particularly with lower level parties, I dont need to rest at all.
But the second I start singing everyone in the area stops and examines me, gets a bit embaressing. Singing WHM in AF...attracts a lot of attention from people...and a lot of comments...like "Spoony WHM"...but I get that a lot regardless heheh >_>

Anyway, BRD seriously needs a update. If they can give DRG a new 2hr, cant they at least give brd a 5,10 min ability

The DRGs really needed it though. I'm not saying you shouldn't get tweaked or anything but...BRD is already a high-invite, high-utility, high-necessity job, if you're gonna get something, it shouldn't be something that radically improves the job or gives major added benefits to the party. Oh and Hide is already a THF ability so that throws out any possibility of getting it, unless they make an ability that more or less does the same (which I doubt...would be kinda broken if you couldn't get hit for X period of time at all.)

Yeah I could certainly use at least 3 different tunes, listening to the same tune in 3 instrumental varieties is pretty weak.

Having a different song for every kind of song might be too much, but I think any computer running FFXI should be able to load a few more songs, and the PS2 can fry for all I care. But even the PS2 can hold at least 2 more variety of tunes, they could make 1 for offensive songs, 1 for support songs, and perhaps a different one for either Etudes (single effect songs) or regen songs (Paeons and Ballads). If PS2 can't handle 2 more tunes in 3 instrumental varieties then they can drop PS2 support .

I also want string instruments! Nothing like playing a requiem on a violin ^_^

Yep few more tunes few more instruments, do it in the name of Xbox 360 renovations drive, they could sure use some flavor to pull in the new gamers.

They cant give anyone anything that gives them an advantage, thats why so many jobs have been nerfed and why drg was crippled and party-less. I completely agree that the DRGs needed the update, it was really giving a disadvantage towards a certain job which seems to be something SE is constantly trying to fix.
But back to the bard topic,
As far as I see it there's no major problems with the job, nothing that drastically needs to be changed. It would be nice for Bard to have a 5, 10 min ability but its really only a luxury that would probably be altered in the future because of a disadvantage to RDMs....a greater one that is, since most people perfer BRD over it allready. Truthfully, Bard has little to work with, (same goes for BST in some cases) By this I mean that there is little equipment suitable for BRD compared to the other jobs. Every other job can find equipment, even from the lowest levels that have beneficial effects towards their particular profession...but I've found that before 40, there's almost no CHR+ equip of any real help. Where-as other Mage or mage-like jobs get lots of INT+, or MND+ even from the begining. So unless you've got a good amount of gill to spare or a lot of patience with the RMT and can farm the Beastmen staff, CHR+ is pretty much hard to find. (Its close to 1mil here) I personally think there need to be a larger variety of equipment for Bard (and BST I suppose) but thats my only true gripe
It would just be nice for SE to pay a little more attention towards us =/

Not to rain on your parade or anything but maybe there's less CHR gear because songs are affected by CHR to a greater degree than, say, spells are affected by INT/MND? Or maybe they already have a lower resist rate than most spells? Just a thought. But if songs really are on equal footing as spells, then a bigger variety of gear in the low levels would be nice. I mean, you get the CHR rings, Flower Necklace....that's about all I can think of (aside from Monster Signa.) Granted, I'm not a BRD, but I'm not completely oblivious to the armor selection for the low levels.

Bard is plenty effective, I managed to have a monster signa til i gave it away at lvl 40 and I never had any issue with song effectiveness. Sure that's a pricy item, but my experience is that the chrisma is a very small improvement. You can get instruments with + for almost every song, and they add more then enough to stick it to any mob you should be fighting.

I don't see how bard effectiveness has anything to do with this thread though, the OP here is about having more tunes so you don't have to listen to the same song over and over, nobody here can complain about bard effectiveness and priority in a party, it is perhaps the most covetted member choice in the game.

Ok im also a drg seeing this well its true dragoons needed a new 2hr but i never cried for help, i was happy when we got it. But if you are to strengthen all jobs in the game, then wouldnt you take a huge amount of skill and knowing your job out of the game? Im not saying this post is a cry i have just jeard it in game from every job well drg got a new 2hr what a bout us?

Unfortunatly I think that requires some kinda compy knowhow... last time I checked bards have a triple f- in computer skills

As for update (revive the thread since I'm beating a dead animal).. hmm... I'd say I'd want some direct damage or stat debuff songs (like a musical blm using spells like choke without the DoT).

Apart from commentary, I also have a question: Do monsters have a limited slot count for musical enfeebles like we do with musical buffs?

BRDs get more than ppl realize. . .

I didnt even effing know you guys got direct-status buffers, ie, Operetta for silence.

BRDs working in tandem with WHMs or RDM/WHM can do crazy things for the pt. the BRDs Silence Buff + Wind Song + Barsilencra and Baraera can help in those tough shit situations. But this is unlikely since BRDs are used for the same thing over and over. You'd think that a job so versatile would be able to do so much, but I think the main problem is what BRDs and pts limit what BRDs can do.

I realize that about RDM, but I can see your points of view, since a new RDM spell would be NICE to have. Christ, even if it's Refresh 2, I'd be able to cast it on myself and instantly be able to cast Refresh 1 on the next in the line. Things like that would make my job a lot easier.
