                      Spoony birthday to you!

I liked your quote from the Immortal Bard, so I searched his texts for clues to spooniness..

                      *ahem*

Comedy of Errors Act IV Scene III

                      Courtezan
                      - Your man and you are marvellous merry, sir.
                      - Will you go with me? We'll mend our dinner here?
                      DROMIO OF SYRACUSE
                      - Master, if you do, expect spoon-meat; or bespeak a
                      - long spoon.
                      ANTIPHOLUSOF SYRACUSE
                      - Why, Dromio? 60
                      DROMIO OF SYRACUSE
                      - Marry, he must have a long spoon that must eat with
                      - the devil.
                      ANTIPHOLUSOF SYRACUSE
                      - Avoid then, fiend! what tell'st thou me of supping?
                      - Thou art, as you are all, a sorceress:
                      - I conjure thee to leave me and be gone.

Henry VIII Act V Scene III

CRANMER The greatest monarch now alive may glory
                      - In such an honour: how may I deserve it
                      - That am a poor and humble subject to you?
                      KING HENRY VIII
                      - Come, come, my lord, you'ld spare your spoons: you 195

                      - Duchess of Norfolk, and Lady Marquess Dorset: will
                      - these please you?
                      - Once more, my Lord of Winchester, I charge you,
                      - Embrace and love this man. 200

                      Act V Scene IV

                      Man
                      - What would you have me do?
                      Porter
                      - What should you do, but knock 'em down by the

                      - we some strange Indian with the great tool come to 35
                      - court, the women so besiege us? Bless me, what a
                      - fry of fornication is at door! On my Christian
                      - conscience, this one christening will beget a
                      - thousand; here will be father, godfather, and all together.
                      Man
                      - The spoons will be the bigger, sir.

What can we deduce from this? That Shakespeare himself was spoon-obsessed, wanting bigger and longer spoons? I'm not certain what we can say of his works, but I'm sure theres a clue to the mystery of spooniness buried within...

Should mention I went against the spirit of the thread and pasted dry, verbatim quotes. I'm gonna try to find some analysis of them, but these are real quotes ^^
