  • If you could type out macros

    I'm looking for some input and advice on a little something I'm working on. Imagine if you will... that you could type text macros in the input window to trigger a macro, instead of using the in-game macro bar. (For example, typing "requiem" -- or even "req" -- would automatically cast your highest level Foe Requiem on your target). Some people may see where I'm going with this =).

    What would people like to see as far as the shortcut text commands? Some of the marcos seem pretty easy... "march" and "mambo" are short and easy to remember. But what about longer names? "mad" for madrigal? "min" for minuet?

    I'm thinking of calling the etudes by their stat: "mnd" "int" and "chr" for example. Carols and Threnodies might be the trickiest for me to figure out. (Does "!fire" imply to anyone else a resistance to fire?)

    So I'm just curious if anyone has any thoughts on what would make natural text shortcuts for songs.

    If i follow you right, your looking to type the song name, as you would in the macro?

    so..

    CTRL1 = /ma "Army's Paeon III" <me>
    /p it {Burn}s when I {Paeon} you!!!

    and your looking to shortcut in to just typing "Paeon" in the text line?

    Sorry, but that wont work. The only other option you have, is you type manualy the "/ma "Song Name" <me>" line. And unfortunatly, BRD's fall under the acursed 'Multi-Word Song'.

    As RDM, i have the luxuray to be able to type out "/ma Bind" or "/ma "Sleep II" or even "/ma Curaga <st>" rather quickly, without much fault.

    That's not to say that someone who can type fast, and accurate cant to that, but that is why the game had macros. To make spells and job abilities easier to perform, at a moments notice.

    === Edit ===

    >.> ok, i re-read it, and missed the whole "trigger" idea.

    I still don't think it's a viable option. The game would need a whole new set of triggers, which would just be redundant, seeing as we have the macro bars now. Using a combination of CTRL or ALT, and using SHIFT to jump sets, it's not that hard to get the macro you need, even going from set 1 to set 4.
    Alauna >> : yea.. what do TC majors do, anyways?
    >> Alauna : we are capable of doing lots of things, but aren't really experts in anything :-p
    Alauna >> : oh, so your a RDM?
    >> Alauna : yeah...

      Text, and therefor macros, can be sent to the game via the windower. I'm already using 4 macro bars, and still don't have all the songs and spells macro'ed that I'd like to. Also, I used to play MUDs for a number of years before FFXI, and am comfortable typing macros out -- the fact that this will make "hitting" a macro take less than half a second, instead of the 3-4 it does now is a bonus (my computer lags in calling up the macro bar when control or alt is hit). It will be an easy task to make the same text command call a lower level of a tiered song for level capped areas. Basically this is a project I'm doing for myself reguardless, but I plan to offer the txt files to anyone else who wants them which is why I wanted to consider public input (for anyone who'd like to constructively do so).

      :spin:

        In other words you want to make alias commands. Most MUDs would have you do:

        alias a 'attack <t>'

        So when you type just "a" the system sends "attack <t>". Then how some MUDs provided nicknames so you can do:

        nickname <t> 'Orcish StoneEater'

        You can then type a sentance of "I was fighting <t> and it farted." and the result would be "I was fighting Orcish StoneEater and it farted." That's what you are trying to do with the windower right? One of the advantages of 3rd party programs, but still not something that intrests me enough to chance the risks of 3rd party programs.

        Cheezy Test Result (I am nerdier than 96% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!)

          Jamison, that's a great idea. I'm not sure these others are catching your drift though.

          i know times like dynamis especially where it takes me a good 5+ seconds to hit a macro because of the lag calling the macro bar.

          send me a /tell in game, we'll figure out how to get it to work.

          :EDIT:

          lol just realized it doesn't say who i am.

          ::EDIT::
