  • A Question about CHR!?

having played Brd for a little bit, I came to wonder about CHR and how it effects the songs.

If, let's say I sing madrigal with +5 CHr, and we say it will give 3% accuracy (I don't know the %, so please feel free to correct me), will the "%" be greater with +50 CHR

Same goes for Minuet - and, well any other Brd song really (I know stuff like ballad and Requim arent effected in the same way with CHR, but I hope you get my point).

And I appologize if this has already been asnwered in a previous post - I looked through the bard section and couldnt really find anything that answered this.

Sadly, CHR doesn't affect your buffs - it'll only help your debuffs on the mobs stick. No matter how much CHR you have, it won't do anything for buffs - +2 instruments as well as instrument skill and singing skill affect these.

Miria is correct. Only helps your resistance rate for debuffs. If you are landing debuffs just fine, trade out some +chr for +mp.

Overall, from 1-50 you don't need a ton of +chr to reliably get your debuffs to stick - if you can afford astrals before 40, then stick with those over +chr rings in order to boost your overall party effectiveness. Otherwise, use +chr rings up till 40, then keep a set of both on hand to swap out as needed depending on what your party is fighting.

Once you hit 51, well... I personally swear by elemental staves as a good boost to the debuffing power of a Bard. Get the basic versions when you can (my personal order of importance being Light -> Earth -> Dark -> all the rest) and consider upgrading to an Apollo's Staff and Terra's Staff if funds ever permit. Light and Apollo affect the resistance rate of Requiem, and more importantly Lullaby, on hostile mobs, and are invaluable for link control. Earth and Terra allow you to land that ever important Carnage Elegy (IMO, the most battle changing spell a Bard possesses, and thus critical to land as soon as possible) and Dark to allow you to boost the power of Light Threnody so you can stick Lullaby more effectively.

The rest simply boost your Threnody success rates (and perhaps increase the amount of resistance lowered) and can be useful for when you're fighting something *hard*, and you're having to spin the elemental wheel to get the mob's light or earth resistance down enough to debuff them.

A good rule of thumb before 50 is try to have your +CHR be 1/4 to 1/3rd your level or current base Charisma. Once you get over 50, try to aim for around 1/2 of your base Charisma, not a difficult task with the massive amount of +CHR equipment we gain around 50.

And remember, if your debuffs are not sticking well, you've always got a Rose Harp +1 and the potent pairing of Enchanting and Bewitching Etude to give you a *massive* boost in +CHR for when you need it...

wait to see melody earring +1 and angel's ring or heaven's ring

however your brainstorming is true, except you use skill (singing+stringed or singing+wind) to get the % of bonus to your song...but we are talking of 1-2 points at level 75....and not to all song too -_-

A lot of people don't seem to realize that CHR does not affect buffing songs. I guess that's why they think that Mithra/Galka are significantly worse at the job than the other races.
