  • Mineshaft ENM: Solo Bard

After finally getting the update finished, I was very eager to try out the new solo ENM in the Mineshaft. Although there are more and better details elsewhere, the quick of it is that it's a level 60 capped ENM in the Mineshaft against (primarily) one marionette, although there's a goblin there also who will do random effects on both you and the "guy" you are fighting. If you do too much damage to the goblin, he'll start attacking you instead. This is a very, very bad thing! ^^ In addition to 2000 exp (or merit points) this ENM seemingly also drops the lvl 61 "JSE" rings. For bard this gives an enchantment increasing max hp by 20%.

    Long story short:

I lost when he was at about 5% life. I knew using Cyclone was risky, but wanted to test if the AoE would aggro the goblin or not. Turns out it did, but only after the 3rd one.

    Short story long:

I treated this very much like the Maat fight, although my gears were much more attack oriented than defense. I used a fish chiefka for def bringing my total to 240. Attack was 235. I've collected a decent amount of attack gear in the past couple of months, including Voyager Sallet, Jaeger Ring, Cerise Doublet and Assailant's Ring. I consider the Gleeman's Belt to be stanard equipment, and the only other equips worth noting were the Melody +1's. While he didn't miss too often, it did happen occasionally.

So I approached, engaged from a distance, and used soul voice. Just like with Maat I used double Paeon (which, in retrospect, may have been overkill). After that was Elegy and Requiem, then normal melee attacks. Unlike Maat, he didn't sing any songs [edit: for me, apparently he can sing], just attacked using dagger. My paeons kept me at full HP... even after he used a weaponskill I'd be back at full 15-20 seconds later. His normal hits did between 28-35, cyclone hit me for 170; gust slash for 143. Again, this never really put a dent in my HP and I was never at any risk of dying. [Total damage taken from him was 1174.]

My attacks did from 23-30 on average, my cyclones did 107, 125, and 103 respectively. I did cylone -> icarus wing -> cyclone; detonation for 68 -- wootga! My physical damage totaled 1398. I'll guestimate requiem damage to be around 420 (6 damage/3 seconds over 3 1/2 minutes). He was down to 3-5% when my 3rd cyclone angered the goblin greatly, causing him to attack me. He hit me for well over 100 each time bringing a very quick end to what otherwise would have been a pretty easy fight. While I'm disappointed to have to wait 5 days to do it again, I think the information gained from this "test run" made it well worthwhile.

    Notes in summery:

    - The marionette continued to take requiem damage, and did not regen, while I was dead. But once Requiem did wear off he regened at the normal rate.

    - I was able to reraise without aggro because I fought far enough away, but there was no time for weakness to wear off.

    - He did not sing; only did dagger damage and WS against me. [EDIT] I'm told now that he *can* sing, although he just didn't for me. Still this leads me to believe that it's pretty infrequent and won't play a huge part in the fight.

    - He had pretty darn close to 2000 HP.

    - 2 cyclones did *not* cause the goblin to attack me, the 3rd did. While I'd feel comfortable doing cyclone -> wing -> cyclone again, it almost seems a waste of gil. I'm confidient I could have delt enough damage with Gust Slash to win.

    - I brought along a bunch of Hi-Potions, which went largely unused. I forgot au lauits, which would have been wasted as well.

    - Accuracy was no problem, but I did use Gleeman's Belt, Cerise Doublet and Jaeger Ring. Madriagal or Sushi wouldn't be a consideration for me, but ymmv. I'm tempted to use a Minuet instead of stacked Paeons next time. For food, I'd be tempted to switch over to attack food as well.

I think that's it! If anyone is able, feel free to add information to this post. I'll try trying again in 5 days.

could it be that the cyclone hit the moblin, causing him to attack you?

i'm wondering how the rdm solo fight is... wonder if its the same...

Did you get to keep your subjob or was it removed like v.s. Maat?

Thats what I am initerested in, subjob or no? Also does the ENM mob take on the same job as you like Maat?

Hrmm, I'd thought there was another thread that had more details about the ENM, but I can't find it right now. No matter, to answer the questions:

No subjob. Just like Maat, it's removed when you enter the battlefield. Since it's level-capped, I'm assuming any TP you may build outside the battlefield when you enter is lost.

He has the same job as you. So, for me that is BRD. Oddly enough, he didn't sing any songs; and assuming he ever used Soul Voice it'd go quite to waste. I entered with dagger, and he used dagger. I've no speculation if you enter with a sword if he too would use a sword.

Yes, my cyclone hit the moblin. Twice I did this without him attacking me, the 3rd he did attack which is what caused me to lose. I was more interested in testing out Cyclone's AoE, and if it'd cause aggro, than winning. Unless I get info from someone else beforehand, I still plan to use Cyclone twice (I assume I can get away with that no problem) but then changing over to Gust Slash for the last 2 weaponskills.

I speculate that it's either the amount of damage taken that causes the aggro (putting the figure somewhere between 200-290) or the number of attacks (which would be 3).

OMG the ENM is another Maat Battle!!! SE needs to come up with more creative things.

Personally I don't see a "recreation" of the Maat fight as a bad idea at all. I've been tempted to fight Maat again for some time, but have never gotten around to it. Also, I see this as one of the few ways to impliment a 1-person BCNM/ENM while still keeping it balanced for all jobs. Finally, the randomness thrown in from the Moblin keeps the fight from being too predictable or easy.

Edited origonal post. I hear now that he does sing... but it still seems to be pretty infrequent.

I think maat style battle is kinda cool idea. More variety will always be better tho ^^ something like

                - fishing battle ENM
                - Tetra master ENM

would also be hella funny :D

I won this fight, went in with AF + the equips i can still wear at 60. I didn't have rings I think..

Very easy I used 4 Hi-Potions to just to be safe. Used the same strategy I did on maat.

He does sing but I only saw him do it after the moblin rolled a 2hr for him. He used Soul Voice and imeadaetly used Minuet, Minne, March etc. I finaled what I could. But he died before i could remove the one he kept putting on.

SV + Paeon and Requiem and Elegy on him sealed the fight for me. I just meleed him with sword and did one Spirits Within @ 300%. (I'm hume)

Was I the only one he spammed Finale on? I couldn't keep Paeon on me. He sang a few buffs, but he gave me Requiem, Elegy, and multiple Finale's, I lost when he was about half way, and couldn't sleep him either ._.

By the way, I did this again and it was an easy win.

Used no potions, nor icarus wing, only an au lait.

Same strat as before, except I used Soul Voice Peaon and Minuet, refreshed each once, and switched over to double Peaon when Soul Voice ran out.

I never fell below 2/3rds life. I don't think he sang a single song the entire fight. I'm not sure if this is coincidence, or something I'm doing is prompting the fight to play out this way.

It did take me about 7 minutes, because he got healed 4 times for somewhere around 900hp, give or take. Gust Slash did more than enough damage, so I'm not even going to try Cyclone again from now on. I got hit with a decent number of WSs from him, and again I was never in any danger of dieing. Didn't get any drops, so I'm hoping next time I'll have better luck. Once I get the ring, I'll go back to experienting in this BCNM

This fight is always going to be something of a gamble with the random dice throws by the moblin being involved in it. My second run was going just fine - up until the point that the moblin gave the mannequin 300% tp and it unloaded Cyclone on me. At that point I just couldn't recover fast enough to get things back under control, and the loss of HP was too much for me to cope with.

But overall... its a fun fight, and I'm glad I got the chance to undertake it. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Gah! I've won 4 times now, and have yet to get a drop!

Anyone notice that the NPC in Jueno that tells you if you are able to enter an ENM ... tells you you can go into this one before you actually are able? Dunno if I'm misunderstanding how this NPC is supposed to work... or if it's a glitch of some sort.

Item is "easy" to get.. might just be a bit pricey. You talk to a moblin at the southernmost entrance inside of Oldtown. You trade him gil, up to 10k. He rolls 2 dice, if the number is under 50, you are given the key item. The more you bet, the better your odds are. After you win and get key item, you trade him 2k more to get teleported to the mineshaft.

I've gotten the item first try (10k) .. I've also gotten the item 4th try (40k).
