After finally getting the update finished, I was very eager to try out the new solo ENM in the Mineshaft. Although there are more and better details elsewhere, the quick of it is that it's a level 60 capped ENM in the Mineshaft against (primarily) one marionette, although there's a goblin there also who will do random effects on both you and the "guy" you are fighting. If you do too much damage to the goblin, he'll start attacking you instead. This is a very, very bad thing! ^^ In addition to 2000 exp (or merit points) this ENM seemingly also drops the lvl 61 "JSE" rings. For bard this gives an enchantment increasing max hp by 20%.
Long story short:
I lost when he was at about 5% life. I knew using Cyclone was risky, but wanted to test if the AoE would aggro the goblin or not. Turns out it did, but only after the 3rd one.
Short story long:
I treated this very much like the Maat fight, although my gears were much more attack oriented than defense. I used a fish chiefka for def bringing my total to 240. Attack was 235. I've collected a decent amount of attack gear in the past couple of months, including Voyager Sallet, Jaeger Ring, Cerise Doublet and Assailant's Ring. I consider the Gleeman's Belt to be stanard equipment, and the only other equips worth noting were the Melody +1's. While he didn't miss too often, it did happen occasionally.
So I approached, engaged from a distance, and used soul voice. Just like with Maat I used double Paeon (which, in retrospect, may have been overkill). After that was Elegy and Requiem, then normal melee attacks. Unlike Maat, he didn't sing any songs [edit: for me, apparently he can sing], just attacked using dagger. My paeons kept me at full HP... even after he used a weaponskill I'd be back at full 15-20 seconds later. His normal hits did between 28-35, cyclone hit me for 170; gust slash for 143. Again, this never really put a dent in my HP and I was never at any risk of dying. [Total damage taken from him was 1174.]
My attacks did from 23-30 on average, my cyclones did 107, 125, and 103 respectively. I did cylone -> icarus wing -> cyclone; detonation for 68 -- wootga! My physical damage totaled 1398. I'll guestimate requiem damage to be around 420 (6 damage/3 seconds over 3 1/2 minutes). He was down to 3-5% when my 3rd cyclone angered the goblin greatly, causing him to attack me. He hit me for well over 100 each time bringing a very quick end to what otherwise would have been a pretty easy fight. While I'm disappointed to have to wait 5 days to do it again, I think the information gained from this "test run" made it well worthwhile.
Notes in summery:
- The marionette continued to take requiem damage, and did not regen, while I was dead. But once Requiem did wear off he regened at the normal rate.
- I was able to reraise without aggro because I fought far enough away, but there was no time for weakness to wear off.
- He did not sing; only did dagger damage and WS against me. [EDIT] I'm told now that he *can* sing, although he just didn't for me. Still this leads me to believe that it's pretty infrequent and won't play a huge part in the fight.
- He had pretty darn close to 2000 HP.
- 2 cyclones did *not* cause the goblin to attack me, the 3rd did. While I'd feel comfortable doing cyclone -> wing -> cyclone again, it almost seems a waste of gil. I'm confidient I could have delt enough damage with Gust Slash to win.
- I brought along a bunch of Hi-Potions, which went largely unused. I forgot au lauits, which would have been wasted as well.
- Accuracy was no problem, but I did use Gleeman's Belt, Cerise Doublet and Jaeger Ring. Madriagal or Sushi wouldn't be a consideration for me, but ymmv. I'm tempted to use a Minuet instead of stacked Paeons next time. For food, I'd be tempted to switch over to attack food as well.
I think that's it! If anyone is able, feel free to add information to this post. I'll try trying again in 5 days.
