  • Problems starting Star Necklace Quest.

So i've done all the S.O.B. Quests up to the point where i received the bouncer club. After that i didn't continue doing any but after i got my star spinel i went back to finish up everything in order to get my star necklace. Only problem is i can't begin to trigger the quest =\ Everytime i talk to the main leader i always get this message (see attatched). I went to the taru in the mansion, back to the house of the hero, and even to the catburgler, all leading no where. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what could be wrong?

There's another quest you have to do that's not really "activated" and kind of weird to know you have to do. What you have to do is go to Castle Oztrajo, or however it's spelled, and go to the place with the door and the two levers. You want to drop down a level, then find a spot on the floor and click on it. It should give you a ring. From there you want to head back and talk to the SOB leader and you should get a nifty cut scene. Then you can start the new quest if you have enough fame.

Make sure you bring a warp scroll or way to get out with you, otherwise you have to drop down to a lower level of Castle Oz with lots of nasty Yaguda.

That should take care of things and let you start the quest.

Don't you have to talk to the little girl in red below the main guy to finish up or trigger one of the quests? I think.

Check your quest log to see if you are currently on the right one ("Crying Over Onions" is the quest name for Star Necklace). And you need to trade star spinel to Honoi-Gomoi taru dude in Wind Water masion to get reward, not to those kids.

If you still cannot get it to work I guess it might be fame issue.

try talking to honoi in waters-south and the mithra thief in woods.

otherwise i guess you are lacking in windy fame maybe?

                When in doubt:

                - Get more fame (ignore, if the fame NPC is spouting off about the goddess)
                - Rezone, talk to all relevant NPCs (all SOBs, Mihgo, House of the Hero), rezone, and repeat until they're repeating themselves (need to do this for the second Shantotto quest)
                - Wait for the next game day
                - Wait for the next RL day (0:00 JP time)

I don't remember having any trouble triggering this quest, but then again I'd racked up quite a bit of Windy fame by the time I finally got myself high enough to do 3-1 (at which point I nabbed the ring for SOB #4). I don't remember if I started SOB #5 immediately after that or if I came back later to start it. Regardless, SOB #5 sat in my quest log for many months (basically from 30 WHM until 50-some BRD when I finished it).

I do remember, since they were more recent, that SOB #6 could be started immediately after SOB #5, and same with #7 after #6.

It's also possible you may be in the middle of another quest/mission relating to one of the NPCs (perhaps Rock Racketeer quest or Lost for Words mission?) which is interfering with it. That's my only other idea.

4 Yagudo Necklaces for that one. It's one of the ones you can repeat for Norg fame.

Finally got it, it was an issue with fame =\ Some told me you didn't need fame, some told me you needed a lot. Either way it wasn't working so i kept farming fame and eventually triggered the quest. Need a fame level of 5 in order to do it if that helps anyone -

You'll need even more to get the later ones. Which, I know, is small consolation since raising Windurst fame is kind of a pain ... still, I'm glad you found out what the issue was.

                          Thank You

I too have been having a problem activating this quest but I realize now that it's a matter of fame with me as well. On another site I had read you only needed rank 4 fame so when I received that rank I got frustrated because the quest wouldn't activate no matter who I talked to. Now I know what I need to do. Thanks for clarifying.
