  • +charimsa AND +str?

Hey i still cant figure out whether to be a brd or a bst, but kinda leanin towards bard. Anyway i was wondering if i should put +str and +charisma becus ill havw a melee class subbed, and will probably do some spare hits in between songs, so yah.................

Just say no to melee sub! Pre-15 you will probably be able to do some decent damage, but sooner or later your hits will be composed of misses and 0 damage hits.

    Always invest in CHR equipment.

If you put on any equipment for melee hits between songs (which I don't really recommend doing - your inventory will be cluttered enough with instruments, CHR equipment, and MP equipment, which is more useful), you'll want to go for Accuracy first, then Attack, then DEX, then STR.

EDIT: And a melee class subbed? No. If you want to be the best at your support role, you want a support sub. WHM preferably, RDM is okay. No matter what melee sub you use, your poor weapon selection and low weapon skill mean that after you get past the low levels (1-20 or so), you will suck at hitting exp enemies and suck at hurting them when you do hit them. This only gets more extreme at high levels.

With BRD after around 15 you definately want to have WHM subbed. At 34 1/2 of my job is to cure status effects (paralyze, poison, etc) and occasionally toss in a couple Cure II's on the mages if they get hit.

Another reason for subbing WHM is because it will give you more CHR then any other subjob besides BST, which is a pretty useless sub in most cases.

Point is Bards after level 10 or so become paper dolls with no ability to deal melee damage. Look at the crappy damage on our AF1 dagger which is actually called "Paper Knife". I think something got lost in the translation and it actually was ment to be "Letter opener"

Bards are a pure support class...so naturally, we suck at meleeing. If you want a job which you can melee with on a regular basis, don't even bother with BRD.

It's sad to see just how weak we are in this game, because in every other RPG, Bards are actually decent fighters and archers, and usually have other skills, such as lock picking.

Oh well...at least we're arguably the best support class in the game.

Well I have some some successful melee with BRD but it basically means sleeping and debuffing the crap out of the mob then buffing yourself.

Foe Lullaby, Light Threnody, Paralyze, Slow, Silence

            Minnet I and II

            Dia, Requiem

Then when I get 100% TP a Threnody before my weaponskill.

Doing this I've been able to take down a DC at ~30 if I know I can't run away and live. I hate going anywhere without a PT
