money makin bards?

i know there are tons of ways that a bard can make money at high lvls, but what about the 10s to the late 40s? Many of you might say crafting, ok, but to craft you would need money to get started on it, and where would you get that beginning money? I've heard that bards are tough to farm with so i'm just lost there .

Using bard as a means to making money is not the best idea, unless it's convincing people to let you share in the loot if you bard for their BCNM...Other then that, there are lots of non brd related ways to make money...but there really is no money making specialty that bard has.

Questing can often times make lots of money. Doing the teleport scroll quest or ninja scroll quests come to mind. Fishing is also a low cost/high yield way of making money, but take into mind its EXTREMELY time consuming, you might have better luck just farming. A good way to make some easy gil is to go someplace and kill elementals. In places like qufim, tahrongi canyon, delkfutts tower, and la theine, elementals pop constantly and are easy to kill.

Best way to make money for a BRD is to organize BCNM40. You can make alot of cash like this. You just need competent peoples and invest some cash into a Mary Horn and CHR equip and your set. You can also sell Conquest Items you buy with your points. Thats how I made cash at low levels. Farming for BRD is very inefficient because we have the lowest damage possible so it takes quite some times to kill most monsters. I really dont suggest it.

Ok so being a bard at about that level I thought i'd let you know what I did recently to make some money. Its probably not the best way, or even a good way, but its what I did, and it got me what I wanted in the end.

At this point i'm lv. 38 or 39 and using some lv30 dagger, ryl squires dagger or something.

Shopping list:
Songs 36-45: about 50K (all from relevant shops, not AH)
Corsette +1: approx 35k
Electrum ring: approx 10k
Pearl ring: 8k

bard is only only job past 30, so I didnt have anything else to farm with, no money for crafting, and not enough patience for that much fishing. Heres what I did...

First i'd head to bastock and level up a low job on wasps and bats, saving up a couple of stacks of wind crystals, then switch back to my bard.

sub: blm (for warp)
HP: windy

Head to giddues
Farm Yags and Death wasps
turn necklaces into grass threads, save all lv8 armour yags drop, and all silver beastcoins, beehive chips, honey.
look out for nm pops, I got hoo mjuu the torrent about 4 times (yes with poison 3 of those times :p) and got my signa (yay) and got zealots mitts once. Also got Juu Duzu the whirlwind 3 or 4 times, hunters bow once, light solea once.
After an hour or two i'd head back to windy and send most of the stuff to my mule in bastock, appart from grass threads and some fo the lv8 gear. I think all that stuff above sells for about:
- grass threads(12) - 1000
- various lv8 equip - usually about 800 per piece
- Silver beastcoins(12) - 5000 (bastock ah)
- honey(12) - I forget, but its about 3000 I think
- beehive chips(12) - about 1500 maybe?
- hunters bow - 18,000
- Zealots mitts - I cant remember, about 10,000 maybe?

Then i'd head out to Outer horratios ruins (or whatever its called) and kill some bogarts for regen scrolls, once i'd got 1 or 2 of those i'd warp back to windy and put those up as well.
I believe regen goes for about 4 or 5k.

Log off for awhile, hate farming, never again, want to level.

Log on, rinse and repeat.


Not the best way or anything I bet, but it got me what I wanted within a week or so.

I understand how you feel about "no money to start anything", and here's what I did to get some gil.

I used my War30/Thf15 and went to KingRanpere's Tomb. I killed every bats and goblin thug in sight. From bats, you'll get bat wings, and from goblin you'll get wild onion.

If you need to raise your San D'oria fame, trade 2 bat wings to a npc in N. Sandy. For every 2 wings, you'll get 200gil. (although not much, but it's a nice way to make little gil and raise fame and the quest if repeatable). If you don't need San fame, sell it on AH.

Also for wild onion, sell it on AH. On unicorn server it worth 4500 gil a stack.

If you want to, you can kill goblin butcher, ambusher and tinker etc. for a treasure key. If you happen to get one, search for the treasure chest, and if luckily you may get a battle glove which worth 4000-4500 gil or get some random amount of gils. However, the chest may be located at area with goblins that will aggro a lvl30. (happen to me once, where two EASY gob almost killed me)

Although this way is not the most efficient way to make BIG money, it's nice method to make small gil by yourself. You can try it, hope it works for you.

heh, good thing that 3 of my friends who play with me are THFs, i'll just ask them to steal stuff for me . Thanks for all this info, and i'll try it. Another thing i was thinking was lvling WHM until 35(?) and getting the teleport spells, and just being a teleport whore in jeuno or something.

I don't think I've ever farmed a day in my life. Almost all my income is from raping BCNM40 with BSTs. XD

Maybe you can try to do gardening too. Like me I don't have so many time to play, and gardening grow by itself. Just have to go on and check sometime.

But like Jeo-san say, BCNM40 really make lots of Gil fast... just have to be in right party with good player.
