  • Another Monster Signa question (Oh nohs *_*)

Basically, I'm a very young/new Bard, only level 17. I'm really interested in being a *good* BRD, so I've been raising fishing a lot to afford the latest attire/+1 instruments. Monster Signa just looks gorgeous to me, and I know the +8 CHR boost would be useful at my young level, but there's always that hefty price tag. *_* Would it be worth it investing a week of fishing into earning the gil for it? I don't mind, because it's a nice goal to inspire me to level fishing again, but I'm wondering if it will be replaced by another stave/weapon very quickly. If I'm going to be using it 20+ levels, I'd love to buy it, but if somebody said 'so and so is much better in 5 levels', it's not such a good investment to me.

Also, can a staff be used in the Maat fight later on, or should I worry about using a dagger?

Thank you so much for any advice. BRD is such a fun job, and I'm working hard to be the most efficient I can in a PT.

Another quick question: Is there recommended food for BRD to eat? Should I just eat pies, to assist the WHM sub in case the healer needs help now and then? Do any Bards drink tea? I know some teas give a CHR boost.

    Thanks again!!

Don't know about the Monsta Signa, don't have it, can't afford it >.<

Pre level 25, regarding the tea that gives CHR, when playing BRD, I have WHM subbed. And because of that, I prefer to drink pineapple juice to regen mp and help lesson downtime. After level 25, Mage's Ballad should take care of that, then Tea may be ok to drink...but, from what I understand, juice effect stacks with mage's ballad, so alot of people tell me to keep drinking the juice + mage's ballad to minimize downtime greatly. I'm only 18 BRD myself, dunno for sure til I get there to see what the best food/drink combo would be.

    Good luck and have fun.

A friend sends me several pies and juices because I help him out with my WHM and he considers me his investment (XD Bribes work really well with me, I always remember the kind melee in PTs who run to town to restock supplies/food and surprise my character with treats), so now I'll definitely start drinking the juices as my Bard (or eating Goblin chocolate) and giving the pies to the mages.

You can use juice and pie at the same time. Not sure about tea though.

You can have one "Food effect" (the hamburger icon, usually lasts 30 min +), plus one regen effect (the regen spells, Selbina Milk and the new fruit au lait drinks) and one refresh effect (the refresh spell, juices, yagudo drink).

Some things which are made with cooking and sold under Food at the AH still don't count as a Food effect (eg juices, yagudo drink) so they can stack with things that do (kabobs, pie, boiled crab, etc.) However juices, etc. normally last only a minute or two and can thus be very expensive if you use them frequently.

it's never really replaced, it's a piece of equipment you can always switch in and out with macros. i highly advise you do switch to another weapon (like Dagger or Sword).

if you don't mind fishing for the gil to buy it than by all means by it.

but you should prioritize getting all songs and all +1 instruments before getting the Signa. if you "sacrifice" gil to buy an instrument to buy the Signa, i'd say that's not a good choice.

Also, can a staff be used in the Maat fight later on, or should I worry about using a dagger?
i've heard of some people doing good with Swords too. problem with staff is that the high damage Pole-type staves are not equippable by BRDs.

CHR is only for landing debuffs. I honestly didn't have much trouble with that, maintaining other (much more cost-effective) CHR equipment, until I was in my 40's, at which point I BCNM'd and bought the signa. At 56, I've now sold it in favor of a Light Staff.

You will by no means be a bad bard for not having it, and I honestly don't consider it to be worth the money. At 40 you can get your CHR+2 AF dagger and at 48 you can get a *VERY* cheap CHR+4 Shellbuster, if you want CHR in your weapon slot. You do have to strike a balance between stat increases and common sense. Get as much CHR as possible for the same amount of gil.

Thanks for the clarification on food+regen, Karinya!

I'll definitely be buying everything else beforehand, Layoneil. ^^ I have most of the +1 instruments and the best +CHR items on the character (Noble's Ribbon, best armor, Bird Whistle, etc). People were asking me, 'Are you going to get Monster Signa after your other stuff?'.. and I was like, damn, completely forgot it was only lvl 17.

And thanks for the Maat fight weapon info. *_* My Sword skill is pretty high, thankfully. Good to know that I can use that.

Vilurum: Thanks so much for your input too. ^^ I'm only lvl 17 right now, so I'll hopefully have saved up the gil for the Light Staff and better +CHR equipment from fishing by then as well.

Everyone's advice is insanely helpful. :| I don't know any high level Bards on my server personally.

                .

I just happened to be walking past mister torrents spawning place yesterday and noticed there was 10+ people around so i decided to stick around. 10mins later i've got signa, lucky me I cant imagine myself having enough money to have paid for it anytime soon though. So i'd reccomend trying to get it yourself when you've levelled up a bit more.

A friend of mine has killed him around 20 times, but gotten nothing. *_* I figure by the time I do get Signa (God, Odin has so many people camping him 24/7 >_<, I could have made the gil fishing. And since I'll be raising the skill level of fishing at the same time, that's a better investment.

                    .

maybe i'm just lucky then. It was only the third time i'd ever seen him, and the 1st time i'd ever fought him. If he pops right infront of you then its all good, I managed to pull him with dia, when plenty of others were using voke etc.

I agree that you could easily raise that amount fo money fishign and whatnot, but once you'd got that much money, would it really be worth blowing all of it on just one staff?

It's more useful at higher levels for landing songs.. but otherwise not needed before L40's, imo. :x I've stopped using it lower levels when I skilled it high enough for Earth Crusher ws, and started leveling my sword and dagger (in that order). I stick Monster Signa in lullaby macro, etc though.

I eat apple pies or drink pineapple juice when needed. :3

It's also been shown that elemental staves effect bard resists too. So lullaby, requiem, and dark threnody would be effected by the light staff. Earth staff would be helpful towards elegy. Not to mention light staff is way more useful in a party situation. Ive read places that the light staff actually effects resists more so than the signa staff. I had the pleasure to try both, and where i did notice a difference in resists with a signa staff, it didnt seem to be a 300k difference The light staff on the other hand helped with downtime more, is cooler looking, and you can actually consider hitting the mob with it occasionally ^_^. But if you REALLY wanna effect resists its probably best to invest in +skill items like a wind torque for higher lvls. +skill not only effects resists far more than chr, it also effects the potency of your songs, so its a double hit of bard powa!

From reading the feedback on these forums, it seems to be that only the Light Staff is worth getting. Even the Earth Staff for Elegy didnt seem to make much difference.

Whats the final verdict on the Wind Torque anyway? Didn't the log parser show the results were not that great? Its 500k on my server
