Which is better for BRD/WHMs in the long run?

Well with dagger you can get the quested WS as your skill in it is higher. Long run I would venture to say dagger.

i have dagger at 218 and sword at 205 and sword (rapier) does almost triple the damage of dagger (kard) although it is a little slower.

for killing stuff, i would never use dagger, even when i get evisceration.

Sword for Spirits Within.

Dagger for Evisceration (Stinks) and Energy Drain (Pretty good).

If you're farming, I'd probably go with the sword, more damage per second. If you charge up to 300% you could do a 500 damage WS with Spirits Within to anything, including those pesky melee-resistant elementals.
