I started as a Hume WAR, with the idea of going DRK. About lvl 15, I decided that since almost everyone was a DRK, and that dmg dealers have an insane time finding a Party, I was set on PLD. I raised WAR to 18, got subjob, rose MNK to 15, then WAR/MNK to 20. Qufim has really been giving me trouble, either cause of the n00bs or that i can't find a PT since 1/2 the people there are WARs. I started reading and got really into playing as a BRD. So what do I do from here? Do I keep raising WAR to 30 and unlock BRD? If so, how do I go about raising WHM as a sub? Do I raise and sub BLM with it, or use one of the jobs I have leveled and jes be a gimped WHM? Or do I start my WHM job now, and raise BLM to sub for it, or sub one I have leveld, and get that to 30 to unlock BRD? I need some advice.

Depends how fast you want to get there. If you don't mind starting over I would suggest the following:
Black Mage to 5. Since you melee quite a bit with BLM perhaps sub warrior.
WHM to 8, BLM sub. You get nukes and heals. This will high enough for your BLM to reach 17.
BLM to 17, WHM sub. Solo until 11. Once I got bind it was easy to solo decents. Then try to get a group in the Maze of Shakrami near Windhurst. Getting to 17 will allow you to warp when you are farming or running around for quests once your main reaches 34.
WHM to 30, BLM sub. Most BLM spells won't help you much here, maybe a few debuffs. But the extra mana is nice. Once you work your fame up enough for the port quests you might consider finishing up to 36.
Get bard quest. You should ride to the quest places on a chocobo, easy to get by the agro monsters in the dunes and bubumiri. Then warp out. At this point you have three choices for the best ways to do this quest:
- Get BLM to 20 and set HP in Jeuno, start the quest, ride to Bubumiri and warp back to Jueno. Then ride to the dunes and warp back to Jeuno. The reason why 20 is so important is that you can't ride a choco from Jeuno if you less than 20.
- With 17 BLM Set HP in another city. Ride choco to Bubumiri do quest, warp back to city, ride to Jeuno to get next part of quest, warp to city.
- If you don't mind spending 1500 CP you can skip using a BLM and do it like my first suggestion using your warrior except buy a scroll of instant warp before chocoing away from Jeuno.
You have some choices. Depends how fast you want to get there versus long term goals for your character. Good luck

I think the answer to this is: how sure are you that you want to be a bard? If plan to go Bard all the way, then yes I would level a blm/rdm/smn to about level 10 or 15 for a sub to whm then go level whm to 30 and unlock the bard job. On the other hand if you are not 100% sure about being a bard I would keep leveling war to 30 and then unlock bard. I have a few friends who really wanted to be a bard, unlocked the job, got to level 15 or so and hated it.
Personally I love being a bard, you will be an asset to every party and you will get invited very fast.
This is just my 2 cents, also know that I have only ever played support type jobs, good luck to you and your decision!!!!

Thanks. Here's another question:
Where and who do I talk to to start the quest, and the only songstones I need are in Bubu and Dunes right? And I have to report back to the quest giver after both? So I could get by w/ jes buying 2 Scrolls of Warp?

Each Warp scroll is 750 CP. You need 2.
The quests starts in a bar in Lower Jeuno. You should buy a parchment before you leave Jeuno for the first time.
I don't know if have you to return to Jueno, but since you are going to anyway, you should check back at the tavern to make sure. There must be a walkthrough somewhere (maybe Allakhazams) that has this level of detail.

Start in Jeuno, get parchment, chat with people in the bar. (I'm not sure you even have to do that, but do it anyway to be safe.)
Go to Buburimu, check song runes, trade parchment to them.
Return to Jeuno, more bar chat, trade parchment-with-song-on-it to Mertaire, more bar chat. (I honestly forget what, if any, conversations you have to strike up in the bar. But there are only like five NPCs in there, so whatever.)
Go to Valkurm, check song runes. You can now become a bard.Averter of the Apocalypse~
Unique quests complete: 330-something, keep losing count.
Mission plot lines complete: Windurst, Bastok, San d'Oria, Zilart, Promathia.
Maps not yet obtained: Promyvion-Dem, Promyvion-Mea, Promyvion-Holla, Promyvion-Vahzl, Sacrarium.

You must chat with Mertaire in the Tavern before starting the quest. I made that mistake because I thought I just have to get the song on the parchment and bring it to him. I was just lucky that I had warp and a friend of mine had teleport to make things quicker.
Also, like many others found, Bard up to about level 15 is pretty weak. I personally found that I only started making a real big difference for my party in Qufim when I started getting some more noteworthy songs to play. That's why so many people drop playing Bard early on.
It's a very unique and busy type of job and later on, you will do little to no melee attack at all. I would suggest you read more about playing as a Bard to make sure that's what you really want to be. If you find you really wanna be a Bard, then stick it out for the first while, and you will be invited to lots of Exp and BCNM parties.
Goodluck,

A few things that the guides failed to mention (at least way back when when I first became a Bard)
***1) Get Parchment in Jeuno - some guides say you can buy one in Mhaura, but this was changed.
2) Talk to the Mithra behind the counter and Mertaire...I think you only have to talk to the Mithra (she tells you about the songrune in Buburimu), but talk to Mertaire too just to be safe.
3)Head to Buburimu, go down the slope to the beach, and walk along the right side of the beach to enter the rune area (I had trouble finding it initially). Give the parchment to the rune and make sure you get a cut-scene.
4)Go back to Jeuno and give Mertaire the song-parchment, making sure you got a cut-scene and some gil. Talk to the Mithra to find out that the next songrune is in Valkurm.
5)Head to Valkurm's secret beach (northwest corner) and examine the rune...you can now become a Bard =D
Words cannot pay homage to the horrible time I had doing this quest...it literally took 5+ hours due to misinformation. At first I didn't have a parchment (because Mhaura didn't sell any) so I had to WALK to Windurst and chocobo back to get the rune (which I had trouble finding). I went back to Jeuno(walked :dead: ) and talked to Mertaire (didn't trade the parchment though), went to Valkurm, talked to Song rune, traded parchment, nothing happened. STORMED back to Mertaire, kicked him in the nuts and gave him the parchment, went back to Valkurm, unlocked the job and logged out for about a week. When I returned I walked back to Sandoria and became a Bard. Got to level 20, went to Jeuno and kicked Mertaire in the nuts again.
I hate that man with a passion now...Finally got Rank 5! *Sings the "I love my Airship Pass" song*
