  • Bard Genkai 5 Help

I've read up on all the genkai 5 threads for bards on these forums and what I could find on other sites.

So I gave it a try, and failed misserably.

What is the secret 'win' for us? To last longer than his soul voice? How long after he starts pulling out the monk WS does he give up? Do I actually need to damage and kill him to 10-20% life before he gives up?

I used 18 high potions and got him to 50% before he dragon kicked me to death. I had full carapaice, and had soulvoiced both paeons and requiem.

I haven't beaten him yet, but I did get him to a slither of HP, but he never gave up -_-

    Eat Steamed Crab
    Go in BC
Run to Door Archway so I can see what he is singing on himself.
    4 Sleeping Potions + Opo-Opo Necklace = 100-110% TP
    Soul Voice
    Knight's Minne IV
    Knight's Minne III
    Run to song range.
    Foe Lullaby (Mary's Horn Equipped)
    Magic Finale
    Carnage Elegy (Horn+1 Equipped)
Take out Dagger (Capped out Dagger Skill)
Foe Requiem VI (Siren's Flute Equipped)
    Begin the Melee Fight
    Cyclone Weapon Skill
    Eat Icarus Wing
Cyclone Weapon Skill making a Self-Renkei (so cool :3)
Then just Fight him using Potions when necessary. and Finale all his buff's
When he uses Soul Voice, he follows up with Elegy/Requiem on you. So I switched to Minne IV + Paeon IV.

I made the mistake when I fought him. I used sleeping potions while I had my Signa Staff Equipped ; ; So I changed Weapons without thinking and lost all my TP. That 1 Cyclone would have given me the Win :/

Mind you.. I also fought Maat when I was 65 and didnt have Requiem VI XD

Eeeeek, that Maat sounds like one tough old codger.

I'm a very long ways away from having to face him (currently lvl 34, and starting to think about Genkai 1) but seeing what he does is interesting. I had read that he only uses attacks from your primary job - and that you can't use your subjob.

Is a "Dragon Kick" that he uses a WS or other ability that BRDs can get down the road, or is he using a subjob?

Also - could one win the fight if they are fully capped for staff as opposed to dagger (I have recently learned that dagger is the ideal weapon for BRD... but I've invested sick amounts of time to hone my staff skills to earn "Spirit Taker" WS later....) Not particularly looking forward to grinding again through dagger WS.

I was using double paeons, and with full def gear he was hitting between 80 and 100 a hit (my max hp is around 1k give take). although it took about 5 seconds between his hits (about as fast as a non-monk punches with no weapons).

He uses some monk hand to hand weapon skills after some time passes (to even the odds of you having equip food ect).

I don't want to kill him >_< Every job has a secret 'win' condition, if I can find out what bards have to do to win (like whm have to heal, ect) it could save me 20k per battle :|

Thanks for the advice though. My dagger is only 150, I guess I should do some skill up pt's (everyone loves a bard :3 )

18 hipotions? Your problem is that you probably don't have any damage output worthwhile, requiem is too slow as a standalone. I only used 9 potions and i'm a taru, without my sub and not using AF thats a grand total of 750 HP or so at lv70. Your best bet is probably to just suck it up, raise your weapon skill, and beat him down.

                  Try #2, fail
Full def equipment, used a life belt this time.

Started out with sleeping and opo-opo, used steamed crab, used milk, used reraiser potion (just incase he was really low when I died, wait for him to move back, raise, and let requiem kill), soul voice, double minne.

lulluby, he resisted (mary horn), so I eulegy then finale, requiem VI. cyclone, ikarus wing, cyclone. detonation did about 20 damage.

From then on, each dagger hit would do about 15 to him. finale'ed when I could. refreshed songs with paeon 4 and minne 4. survived 2 monk ws.

ate 18 high potions, and died with him at 40% hp.

What am I doing wrong? I used strategies given here on this forum, and I got no where closer to 10-15%. I only improved 10% more hp taken off than last time.

Should I go to sword? It's only 150 and it is sooo much harder to skill up, but it may do more than 15 a hit

Also, with double minne, I'd take 55-80, where before with double paeon I was taking 80-100. I may double paeon and eat the 20 more damage a hit in high potions, over time I may have to use less potions overall.

In an optimal world, I'd have evasion and parry capped, sword and dagger capped, and have 50 inventory instead of 40 for more high potions.

However, I don't think any of that will help me get him down 20% more health >_<

                  Please help~

Do you have +2 requiem and +2 elegy instrument? They're pretty important for this. I did the fight with only 140 evasion and very low parry, so they're not critical but can help a lot. I went the all out defense route(Carapace armor and both minnes) and won as a taru, using a dagger, with only 750hp. Subjectivist won by capping her evasion and using both mambos. Might have even using +evasion equipment and blinded herself with two bat earrings for +30 evasion. There's a good spot in Boyahda at the Cloister of Lightning zoneline with a lone crab. You can have this crab beat you up then zone when you're getting low on life to raise your evasion.

Also, reraiser isn't going to help bard. Once you die he starts to regain health.

Another thing you might want to try is not wasting time with finale when he uses weak songs. Maybe it's rare, but about 5 seconds before Maat lost in my fight he used ballad 2. With elegy +2 and requiem +2 instruments they should last the entire fight and you won't have to recast them.

One thing you want to do is spend very very little time using your songs. Maat singing songs = you doing more damage. You singing songs = maat doing more damage.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I have the +2 requiem and eulgy instruments.

I've gotten my dagger up some since then, so I may try in a week after I cap it just to be safe. I'll also do the last 2 gobbie bags and max my hi-potion capacity.

                      Thanks for the support

This sounds rough, I wish we knew the "secret" way Bards can beat him. It seems kind of silly we have to defeat him through Melee damage.

Maybe something like you have to put him to sleep successfully 3 times in a row.

I read somewhere that you have to Play 8 Full Songs...
But that doesnt make any sense because you could do that in the hallway when Maat isn't even fighting you.

I remember hearing something like this as well, along with a "play 4 defensive and 4 offensive songs" rumor. Apparently, neither is true. The first time I tried I used paeon, minuet, ballad then my real two songs(minne&minne) before fighting. Then I opened up with 4 offensive songs(threnody, elegy, requiem, soon after, finale).

Could be possible that they have to be played while he is engaged...
