  • Need Hints for BRD AF2 Victory

    I recently went to do the BRD AF2...
    I gathered a bunch of friends. The PT line up consisted of 1 full PT which had all level 55's, and a 2nd PT which had all 53's (and myself, 52). We were around 4 WHM's, 2 in each PT.

    I don't know about you.. but those 3 NM's I spawned were Terribly powerful.
    The main NM's attack was outrageously high;
    Regular Hit: 119 damage
    Additional Effect: 200 damage
    and to top it all off.. you have to fight 3 of them at the same time!!!

    Are there any tricks to beating this at a reasonable level?

    My friend told me I should Spawn them while I have 'Sneak' casted on me, then Run back and pull them one at a time using Cure (since Undead don't link when you pull with Cure). But then after Asking some more experienced players, they say that NM's ignore Sneak x_x

    Use the Sneak trick and/or simply sleep them.

      at the bilingual site for FFXI, it says in the quest information that recommended PT should consist of 6 people lvl 58+, so I would wait. I personally haven't done it yet myself, because I know it will be difficult.

      My suggested party would be the same as the one they suggest for the lvl 40 BCNM fight in giddeus:
      1 PLD
      2 Monk
      1 RDM
      1 Bard (yourself)
      1 Blm or Whm

      Because they are undead monsters and foe's lullaby happens to be darkness, sleep will NOT last long on them, and that means it's IMPORTANT that you kill them as fast as possible. Monks do heavy damage to bones, and with hundred fists they will just pound right through them. Dragoons and thiefs will do considerably LESS damage than normal, since bones are very strong against them sort of attacks. If you can't find a second monk I would suggest a dark knight sam or warrior, definitely not a dragoon or thief though. I'd also suggest that you coordinate with the redmage for him to cast Sleep II OVER your foe's lullaby, once you have them asleep...it will last considerably longer that way. It's safe to say that you will not be able to do this period before level 58, so I would just save the lives of your party members. Or, find a level 70 or two (or higher now) in jeuno and bring them with, should be able to take it then.

      about that additional effect: 200 damage, I'd try dispelling it with magic finale and or dispel, might work.

        Are you 100% sure on it working? x_x
        I don't want to drag 17 people to come help me out with BRD AF2, only to have the sneak trick not work and we all die miserably (which is what happened the first time when I wasn't aware of spawning-with-sneak)

          a lot of NM in this game can see through sneak/invis/deodorize, so I wouldn't count on it. just try and get a high level bard or something to sleep them, since you won't have much luck at your level.

            News

            I just got my BRD AF2 (hurray)
            and I can 100% Confirm that Spawning the 3 Skeleton NM's while having the spell "Sneak" On you, makes it so you can pull the NM's 1 at a time with Cure

                  A few questions for the Bard AF quests:

                  What is the Eldieme Mound? Is that a location in the Eldieme Necropolis?

                  For the Bard AF Pants and Shoes, what is the drop rate for the coffer keys? I have been lvling in CN for a bit and after thousands of Rumble Crawler kills, I have yet to see a single coffer key drop, lots of chest keys, but not a single coffer key.
                  Does the coffer key drop if you have the AF quest?

                  If the drop rate is pretty bad for the coffer keys (i.e. Lich drop rate *shudder*) , I may just risk taking my lvl 30 Thf inside CN and Oztroja with lots of sneak/prism powder and living keys to find the coffers.

                    Eldieme Mound = Bad Translation for "Sarcophagus"

                    There is a Sarcophagus at D-4 in Eldieme Necropolis. Its actually very difficult to get to.
                    Usually to get to Eldieme you would do;
                    Jeuno -> Batallia -> Eldieme

                    to get to the specific area in eldieme where the sarcophagus is, you have to go;
                    San D'Oria -> East Ronafure -> Ranguemont Pass -> Beaucedine Glacier -> Batallia -> Eldieme

                    OR

                    Teleport-Vahzl (if all members have a Vahzl crystal) to Xarcabard -> Beaucedine Glacier -> Batallia -> Eldieme

                    OR

                    Jeuno -> Batallia - Go to the Top left area of Batallia where there is a Elevated Ground which is unreachable from Batallia. Die. Have someone Tractor you Up to the higher elevated grounds and Raise you.

                    Now.. Considering that the BRD AF2 NM's are Terribly Difficult, and Require a good 18 lv.55 PT, It takes alot of convincing, or alot of friends to put their time and effort to do all of this travelling :/

                    Note: The reason for the beaucedine entrance thing is that Eldieme Necropolis has multiple entrances, and not all the insides connect to eachother. The Area where the Sarcophagus is, is only reachable by 1 Entrance in Eldieme, And that entrance must be accessed by going to Batallia from Beaucedine

                      You get the shoes after killing the 3 skeletons for AF2, not a coffer. There is no set key drop rate, you can get lucky and get 4 keys in a row, or you could go several hours with nothing. Typically, most areas take about an hour or two for a key to drop.

                      I have been lvling in CN for a bit and after thousands of Rumble Crawler kills, I have yet to see a single coffer key drop, lots of chest keys, but not a single coffer key.
                      Does the coffer key drop if you have the AF quest?
                      That's because the coffer keys aren't even dropped by Rumble Crawlers. And although I don't see how anyone can miss it, I'll tell you which ones drop coffer keys just so you won't give me some "i cant read jap" excuse. Coffer keys are dropped by Helm Beetle, Crawler Hunter, Knight Crawler, Water Elemental, and Wespe. Helm Beetles, Crawler Hunters, and Knight Crawlers are leveling material at about level 52-54, so it's likely you'd get a coffer key in a standard level up PT. Keys drop regardless if you have any AF quests accepted, however you need quests accepted before you can get AF or key items from the coffers.

                      If the drop rate is pretty bad for the coffer keys (i.e. Lich drop rate *shudder*) , I may just risk taking my lvl 30 Thf inside CN and Oztroja with lots of sneak/prism powder and living keys to find the coffers.
                      You can only use a different job other than the one AF is for only if the coffer contains a key item. Since Oztroja contains BRD's AF pants, you have to use BRD to open it, and therefore a real coffer key. Another thing to keep in mind is that the success of opening coffers is based on your THF's level if you use living/skeleton keys. A level 30 THF would fail terribly at opening a coffer, if you even get lucky to find one, as Oztroja is typically running rampant with other competitors.

                          Cool thanks for the extra info Teffie.

                          Yeah I been to the top Eldieme entrance going through Rangoumont while searching for the genkai Lich item *shudder.

                          Definitly going to need alot of convincing to get people to trek all that way just so I can obtain some shoes that I probably won't even wear =b
