  • Foe's Lullaby Test

I decided after obtaining mary's horn (luckily within 10 minutes of trying to get it o_O) I decided to do a little Lullaby test on some bats on my way to do the beastmaster quest (passed the kraken). Here's my stats:

    60 Bard / 30 Whitemage
    60+23 Charisma

With no special instrument, just a Traversiere +1 (madrigal +2)
Foe's Lullaby lasted: 17 seconds, on a too weak to be worthwhile mob. (the bats in qufim entrance next to the weapons...i think speculated bats or something). Note that Foe's Lullaby is in fact a darkness spell, and bats are strong to darkness, however I tried it again with Dark Threnody and it lasted the same amount of time.

    With Mary's Horn, Lullaby+1
Foe's lullaby lasted: 34 seconds ! exactly double the amount of sleep time!
I find it rather strange that it only lasted 17 seconds, and I tried it a few times on different bats and it lasted the same amount of time. However one thing is for sure: Lullaby+1 DOUBLES the sleep duration, which is increadible. I'd suggest taking the time to camp mary's horn or forking out the money to buy this, especially for BCNM battles.

It's my understanding that Charisma doesn't effect sleep duration, only the chance of it being resisted...but does anyone know if it increases the duration on increadibly tough mobs, or anything like that? Some insight from some experienced bards would be helpful.
my items to achieve that much charisma:
    Pearl Ring lv 36?x 2 (2x2)
    Jester's Cape lv 54(7)
    Corsette lv40(5)
    Shellbuster lv48[no monster signa yet ; ;] (4)
    Bird Whistle lv16 or 26...can't remember (3)

some other items that can be obtained:
Noble's ribbon, helm with no defense, level 14 i think? (3 charisma, +2-4 to all resists i believe, approximately 20k on my server =/)
AF Gloves...gotta pick them up sometime soon, +4 charisma, level 60
Obviously I could upgrade my rings to both Charisma +3 rings, and jester's cape to jester's cape +1 and corsette +1, but that would cost an alarming amount of money. but in total I could have over +40 charisma RIGHT NOW, if I had all these items.

    Really? o_o
I used it on a Too Weak to be Worthwhile, and it was asleep for exactly 30 seconds.
    I don't have a Mary's Horn so I couldn't test

Yes really. I think it was because they were bats, because even without mary's horn (I forgot to bring it with me levelling, and inventory space is rather limited) I can sleep IT mobs for nearly the same amount of time as the recast time for the spell, of 24 seconds.

with the exception off odd situations, which seem to imply the song being partially resisted, i see a duration of at least 24 seconds on even IT monsters.

I know for certain when the lullaby lands, i have at least time for the song to recycle before the monster wakes.

your groups must not be fighting mobs as high a level in comparison to you as my groups do but anyways like I said, in the test I sleeped a bat, which are probably resilient to sleep. I suppose I'll do a retest, but my test was mainly showing how effective Mary's Horn is, which is double duration...a must have

we always chain IT ... /shrug im very sure its dark resistance that is skewing the results.

Cant wait to sink 80k into owning that horn! Good to know its effective!

I picked up a Mary's Horn after my third successful BCNM, and I must say that it is indeed effective. At 49, I was able to sleep IT's to the 55's I was helping camp Coffer keys with, and generally for full duration (Undead in Eldieme). Worth the 70k I shelled out, now to pick up a Jester's Cape +1 :D
              Back in Action!
