Well, what do you think SE meant by "magical swordsmen", then? And what do you think would give people a reason to let us melee sometimes without turning us into an actual DD and thus enabling RDMx6 parties and plaguing Vana'diel with DD ONRY RDMs? What do you think would be a better idea to make our melee different from anyone else's?
I think my post was taken the wrong way. What I meant was that while Enspells are nice and all, I don't want people staying inside the box thinking that it's the only possible method of assisting Red Mage melee damage. Red Mage becoming an actual dedicated DD is the LAST thing I want to happen, and I shudder at the concept as much as I shudder of the thought of reaching E.Staves level with things as they are right now.
Let me put it this way: Blue Mage melee works without the aid of Enspells. Therefore, Enspells are not needed to make such a hybrid job work.

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
I think in the great Red Mage struggle my favorite suggesstion was enspell enfeebles. With the addition of Dancer's front-line enspell style enfeeble mechanic I would think it's even more possible. Enslow and Enparalyze would definately keep Red Mages at the front line if they're powerful enough.
In my opinion they should remove enspells alltogether and make it a job ability, allowing them to choose which spell in their arsenal to add to their weapon. This would allow Red Mages to simply upgrade their enspell damage by upgrading their spells.

Or they could actually throw in Mystic Knight finally and give us a frontline BLM that's also anti-mage (aka it focuses on reducing magic dmg taken vs PLD's physical dmg)
SE got it right with BLU, so what's stopping them from doing the same with RDM? (Or maybe they've been agonizing all these years over how to do it without breaking the job entirely)
SE does have RDM right, It is a party support job. The debate amongst melee buffs etc has been going on for what 4-5 years now. RDM has nothing wrong with it (except its merits). There are some tweaks that would make a little nicer but as it stands it is one of the few jobs in the game that really dosent need any work (which is why its been 4 years since a major RDM update).
However that being said I understand this is a personal wish list, and personally I would love to see a MACC trait above all else, drop our 2nd MAB and put it in there. Also like I said a couple pages back a JA that gives us a + to melee stats/skill and - mage stats/skill, for the times when a RDM needs to/can support its party via melee.
As for a melee BLM, say hello to pup with a BLM automaton.
There's no reason to get rid of MAB, and 3 MAB traits would not be over powering. 4% more damage isn't going to suddenly make RDM the most powerful nuker in the game, but it would be right in line with their trait pattern and give them a nice little boost. It can't get it's skill up higher than a SCH can, nor does it have access to Tier IV's so I fail to see the problem. It's not going to magically make sucky RDM's into awesome ones.
Also I believe there is a general consensus among the forums that RDM really should get some MACC traits.
Lastly, I deny RDM being labeled a "support" job on the grounds that it's always been a jack-of-all-trades and like BLU, is a fighter mage. The only reason it's even viewed as a support job is because the community at large demands it perform those duties, and said RDM's submit to this because it's efficient and means easy invites.
It's kind of a shame IMO. RDM and BLU are two sides of the same coin, but RDM just doesn't seem to have the same options as BLU does in terms of flexibility of job roles. The tools are (mostly) there, but let's face it; BLU was much more thoroughly planned out in regards to it's skill sets and gear compared to RDM. This is evidenced by just how tricky it is to balance the two jobs compared to each other.

If it spends the bulk of its time supporting allies, its a support class, period.
COR is way more of a melee class than RDM could ever hope to be, but I still regard it as support because that's what I'm invited to do. The fact that I can respectably DD is a bonus, but not why I'm invited.
And if buffing doesn't make RDM a support class, then what does it make BRD? I'll be interested to hear your answer.

About the only things BLU has in common with RDM is MP and a sword. Please keep in mind BLU subscribes to the law of beasts and not just the elemental wheel, only one other job in the entire game observes the laws of beasts.
Beastmaster.
BLU doesn't only have to be balanced against RDM or other mages, but BST as well, which is why its far more complex than most mage jobs.
So really, BLU has as much in common with RDM as PLDs do with DRKs, which is to say not much. They can all use swords, all have MP, but that's about it.

A bit of an off topic post.. But BST is the closest class to death at any given moment. Make a bad decision while soloing on BST normally takes a turn for the worst. I remember one time.. A BST was standing in the middle of Jeuno... and a Vanguard Ambusher came out of nowhere and bashed his face in. Needless to say, he doesn't AFK in Dynamis much anymore.
Back on topic though. If an RDM/NIN can solo most mobs in the game then the job is a little imbalanced in the first place.. But thats just my personal opinion.
What I do agree with though is that THF (My main job) should get a 40+ Job ability akin to Sneak attack, that stacks with Trick attack/Weapon Skill that deviates them from other damage dealing classes. Maybe a version of Sneak Attack with a higher damage multiplier.
They can call it.... Sneak Attack II... Or better yet, Why not just have it share a timer with Sneak Attack like Accomplice and Collaborator. Better yet, you could just make a job trait that Improves the Sneak attack ability. They could call it.. "Ow. My back" or "Sneak Attack +1".. Yes Yes... I see it now... Muahaha...

I think WHM ought to gain a high level trait (maybe JA? Preferably trait) that allows them to raise people without weakness (as opposed to a spell for that matter; why waste more MP) along with a cure for Amnesia.
IMO that would pretty much do-in anyone's chances of stepping on WHM's toes @ end game.
Just move Trick Attack to 40.
Something to make Thief looked at other than a damn DD/thf or TH+3 TH+4 -_-;
End game has the lowest opinion for the job outside of those traits. -_-; Sickening.

No rdm update til good results for thf >_>
That isnt the point of Trick attack. =\
The main point of Thief post 33 is mainly hate control, until you get assassin.
Moving Trick Attack to 40 would cripple thieves, because they would get invited to groups even less because they don't have the hate control power they used to have.
Most melee classes dont Sub THF for Trick attack... They sub it for Sneak Attack, The critical damage increases weapon skill damage exponentially.
With a Sneak Attack-like job trait post 40, you wont be able to sub the job to get the ability, increasing Thieves damage to make them a better damage dealer.
