I got this tell from a lvl 56 RDM/BLM taru..

"WTF you doing as sumoner, Galkas are gimp for mage jobs, your such a noob"

I am gettting sick and tired of the Galka can't be a mage thing. Its all about Mp conservation and good decisions of when and what to cast. I dinged 10 a few nights ago (when there was actually no maintenance!!) with sumoner/whm and got my legionaires staff (mp+6) and two energy earings (mp+3 each) I use pineapple juice i can synth in the field (currently lvl 43 cooking) and ginger cookies while resting. Granted I probably rest more than a taru, but I hit harder with my staff when duoing even matches and toughs with carby therefore I have a higher kill percentage than taru's. it has taken me a total of 3 hours to get to lvl 10 from scratch in East Saratabuta and Taronghi canyon. I have not died once, my extra Hp helps keep me alive so i can take some hate off carby to keep him out longer on tough mobs and I havn't needed to 2 hour.

Why can't people get their heads out of their arses and realise that race is nothing to do with how well you do a job its the player and how they manage the job, mp etc. I am sick and tired of elitist taru's and hume races who think galkas are only good as meat sheilds. I am also a lvl 37 pld and i can out damage and outlast any hume PLD of my level, its all to do with how you manage your races limited abilities, not just be refused an invite because "Galka RDM, Gimp mp, no thanks" (I had that 3 weeks ago when looking for a Qufim party at lvl 19)

I love my character, I love his strength, vitality etc. yes his Mp may be gimped, but with gear and good mp management I can be just as good as any other race.

I love Galkas, but I have to admit it's harder to play Galka mage (same way that it's harder to play Taru tank). You can still succeed at any mage job as Galka, though as with any job that is HP or MP dependent, you'll need to choose your gear pretty carefully.

Galka SMN is probably the least affected by stats, since SMN are unusual in having NO base stat that is helpful to them (STR, DEX, INT, etc.). This leaves their power level to be based on Summoning Magic skill and MP - and as any dedicated mage should know, max MP only matters for one job - Red Mage. As long as your MP recovery is adequate, all mages perform pretty much the same - especially Summoners.

Really the only job where Galka are at a serious disadvantage is RDM at level 40+, due to really inefficient Convert ratios (you can even make up for a lot of that with HP>MP gear, but even all the conversion gear in the game won't quite get you to 1:1 ratio the way other races can manage).

For general XP purposes though, every race can play every job well with appropriate attention paid to gear and food - even Galka RDM.

Just learn to ignore morons. I'm a Galka Mage who recently took Summoner to Level 37, and I never recieved any complaints. Honestly, this game has been out for so long, and now there are so many Elvaan and Galka Mages, and Taru Meele, that people should know it doesn't matter either way.

You will get players that automatically insult you, and other that make snide little jokes on the side. Ignore them and show what you can do. If you do a good job, they will be suprised and compliment you. To sum it all up, Skill > Race.

Of course you can do any mage job. In besieged the other night I got in a party that had two Galka whm and it brought tears of joy to my eyes

Don't listen to people when they say you can't. Also, if you plan on leveling a mage job to the higher levels, go ahead and "thicken" you skin up some, because I would suspect that you will get more /tells like that throughout your career. (not saying it is right, just saying it will probably happen)

One xp party I was with a Galka whm, and he was one of the most efficient whm I have ever xp'ed with - everyone was as close to full hp as necessary, he never came close to running out of mp, always was there with the status spells...

My FAV party of ALL time was with ALL Japanese in Crawler's Nest... I was the only English speaking person, and I was THF...

200-300 XP per battle for a couple hours straight....

When I went through the dunes as RDM, I had more HP than the tank and more MP than the SMN I ate pies and I've got some MP merits (which help a little), but ultimately you've just gotta prove to those nay-sayers that it can be done very well. Your skill will greatly outshine your race.

For my RDM, though, until I got to 22, I wasn't focusing on the right stuff. I was more worried about MP and found myself getting major resists. I decided to get some +INT gear and became much more efficient and beneficial to my PTs by being able to spend less MP and getting my debuffs to stick sooner.

Playing a Galka mage makes the game challenging and rewarding, so have fun with it!

The best White Mage I ever met was a Galka. He ruled. Funny, too... liked to call himself a tarutaru.

We'd say <Impossible to gauge> <Galka> in LS chat. He'd say <Huh?!>, and we'd turn around with <Excuse me...> <Impossible to gauge> <Tarutaru>. What a riot.

Alas, he's not around much anymore.
