Well I just got the game and have been reading many guides and how to start off on the right foot. I finally decided to first start out I want to try the Red Mage (You can be Red mage from start out right?)

But alas, I cannot decide what race to be, since I can't change it later. Right now the game is updating and installing etc etc. Now I don't know if I want to get into heavy maging like White and Black exclusivly, yet I still want to be able to switch to something like a full on warrior later on down the road if I don't like being a mage in any way. This is my prediciment, what race would be good so I am not just stuck for one profession.

Suggestions for my situation?

most people don't follow race "rules" too strictly. except RMT, and you don't like them.

If you want to be able to play all the jobs, be a "Hume". Versatility is what they do best according to the stats... although many folks here will agree that race doesn't really matter all that much.

If you can't decide on what to specialize in, pick Hume. It's the most average race; no strengths, no weaknesses, and able to do well at every job (not quite as well as another race that might be more specialized, but the difference isn't that noticeable at end-game).

That sounds pretty good I suppose. I ws just leery of choosing Hume because of all the hype surrounding it, saying since it was the average of all of them, it is also pretty much the worst. Might just be my cup o' tea though

I would pick the race that you think looks the coolest. You will be looking at your
character for many hours, make sure you like it

You can play any job with any race. (altough some combo's you might have to work
harder at than others)

What I did when starting out, was I tried out all the different races a bit before
I settled on being Galka.

If you go to the Playonline website, they have a character creation tool that will allow you to see all the face options of all the races. It helps to pass the time while waiting for the downloads and updates to finish off. Just don't have anyone 5 or under pick something unless you like being "So adorablel" to quote my youngest.
