  • This is driving me insane!!!

Ok so I am coming back after 2 years of quitting. I used to be a bard/white mage, but now I had to remake my character. My goal has to been get puppetmaster, but that was a bust because the job has a lot of flaws, and now I am in a rut. I don't know what to do, it seems like ever job I start, I can't seem to finish and I stay that way for a very long time and it uses up a lot of money. Yesterday I was so determined to be bard again, I started it, played til level 5 and decided to go back to PUP. Then I decided I wanted to be summoner, then I thought against it, then I thought I wanted to try corsair and it has been the same thing over and over.

Problem with me is that I think too far into the future about these things. I think hey it would be so cool to be a summoner, but I don't want to have to buy all that food to raise my magic, and it's a very high magic demanding job that would have a lot more downtime then I care to have. With bard, I think it would be so cool, but I keep thinking how hard it will be in the future to get by and do things by myself.

I actually will not go on because if I listed all the reasons that prevented me from doing a certain job, then the list would go on for another few websites. I really like doing magic, but can't stand to be a black mage. White Mages are needed a lot, but as I remember I used to get stuck with tons of n00b parties and I died a lot, and random people sent a /t asking me for things and it was chaotic. I don't know what to do anymore, but I don't want to quit. Can someone please help me?

Don't think into the future about it. Who cares if at 75 you can earn a lot of gil, and get into the big bad HNMLS. If you have a 75 job, and you hate it, you most likely suck at it. That won't get you anywhere in this game. What you need to do is just try all jobs, and find a job you really like. Once you do that, get that job to 75, farm for good items, study into your job, and level every possible sub you can for it. You'll thank yourself later.

      Focus, grasshopper, focus.

At least, that's what people tell me when I do the exact same thing >.>

Lol thank you for your opinions. Right now I am actually considering PLD or DRK, but can't think of which one... I guess I'll just have to try both ^^, what do you think?

Try both, and decide for yourself. It doesn't matter what other people think about your job. Just find one you like, and learn to play it well.

While you have the low level gear, you may as well try out everything.

Re: This is driving me insane!!!

I think you should try a bit of everything. Just don't think of why do you want to level that or how you level it...etc just level it and experience the difference between each job. Each job has different approach to how they function in a PT, even pure melee like Drg, Mnk and War can function differently depending on the PT and the sub job you take.

Don't be intimidated by the hard part of the jobs. Every jobs have their ups and downs. You will never know how well you perform unless you actually tackle the problem. Before I had ninja sub, I thought that it'd be really bad for a Ninja or /Nin to change from Utsusemi: Ni to Utsusemi: Ichi since you will have to manually cancel the current shadow if the monster fail to attack you or missed. If you think about carefully, you will notice that it's not an easy thing to perfectly cancel your shadow and make sure you're not hit during the cast time of Utsusemi: Ichi...etc. Well, I was so freaked out with Utsusemi: Ni that I pretty much stop Ninja after lv37 and use Ichi exclusively even if I have Ni on my Mnk/Nin. After a while, I start to tank a lot with Mnk/Nin and I pretty much get use to it >_> I level Ninja up to lv40 and notice it's not as hard as I thought.

The same thing I did with bst. I was a puller as Rng and had a habit of not getting links during pulls. The long pulling career kind of made me 'scared' of getting a link in a crowded area. Well, until I level bst. I was chicken out at area with lots of agrro and links... at 1st. After a few deaths and attempts due to desperation, I started to get the hand of it. Now, I can handle links and aggro pretty well as Bst, only 'very' bad luck can get me kill now (I have yet to die in bst exp for 3 levels!).

Thanks for this advice, it was very helpful!!! Though currently, I am working on Puppetmaster. I hope the job will become great, I have a lot of hope in it and high expectations for the future.

Dont focus on the down sides but on the upper ones you like and you will end up with a few job you really like. After that you still will have to choose between them but it should be easier and if you really cant choose, get gear for them and lvl the one you feel like when logging on.

I'm doing that for BST and SMN now and it works pretty good, the down side is that you don't have to be in a hurry.
