Re: Monk or DRK wanted?
Let me guess? You want to know what job to choose? =P If that's the case, dont let something like that choose for you
IMHO I would take Dark knight for a high lvl party. I've played both so no, its not mnk racism XD. a monk is pretty much all damage. A well played DRK is a great assist in a party. Since they have Absorb spells and stun. They can do good damage and they can hate control with thf sub. But in the end it really get's tó personal preference
Raku is the name given to me by my friends on Hades ^^ cant wait to beat you guys up for calling me a Chamel on Japanese lol

^^ well some people prefer high damage slow hits instead of low damage quick hits and... the "slowness" goes away when you see Guillotine lol

Re: Monk or DRK wanted?
Monk
Actually Monk seems to take a good bit more dedication. I know whole boatloads of people who have done both. There are at least three people in my LS that have both a DRK and a MNK over level 60, and more that have them over 50.
I guess they are dissimilar enough in play to be fun, but simliar enough in intent to feel comfortable.
If you're a Galka go Monk, and I'd say the same for Elvaan. Other than that, you probably want Dark Knight.66MNK | 37WAR | 22SAM | 20THF | 20BST | 18 NIN | 17BLM | 10WHM

Re: Monk or DRK wanted?
Both MP and Brute strength. Galka MP is downright pitiful. Nobody believes me, but it is, and that Elvaan strength goes to good use either way, but the MP pool is, again, not that great.
So really, a mix of both reasons.66MNK | 37WAR | 22SAM | 20THF | 20BST | 18 NIN | 17BLM | 10WHM

Re: Monk or DRK wanted?
Let's be honest here and say what Monk is really like.
If you want to simply Auto-attack and ws, perhaps even do some very light backup tanking, then go with Monk. You can set your Monk to attack something, go make a sandwich, come back and your pt members wouldn't even know that you had left.
After Lv40 invites for most jobs really slow down, but with Monk they pretty much disappear. I have Monk friends that came so close to quitting during those levels, it's like torture. One particular friend went for months at a time without any invites, he inched through it by making his own parties whenever he could find enough people seeking.
Another issue is gear. Although every job in the game relies on gear to excel, Monk is the most heavily dependant on it. Whatever gear you have is completely equal to how good your Monk is. So if you want to be the best at it, be prepared to farm your ass off to get the best gear and food possible, skill doesn't come into the equation until your at least 70+.
Monk is fun, but can become quite boring, definitely not for people who lose interest easily.
EDIT: Gah forgot to add the good part, lol. Once you make it through all that, with the proper gear Mnk is THE top DD for exp parties in the game, imo. So if in the end that's what you really want, go for it.Last edited by Erebus; 05-26-2006, 07:57 AM.
