      Re: High Dmg class

If you want an advice, I'd highly recommend getting WAR to 30 instead. In this manner, you can unlock advanced jobs and then ...

Use WAR to sub to SAM, DRK, etc.

Even if you decided on MNK, WAR sub is pretty much the de facto standard for that job class. Also, if you decided to be a RNG or COR, you might want to consider NIN subjob. if you do, WAR is the de facto standard subjob for NIN.

WAR's versatility as a subjob makes it one of the most important basic job class in the game.

if your looking into melee classes then having war, thf, sam at 37 and if sam is your main maybe rng at 37 for quick tp build

SATA or sneak attack trick attack is a strong tool

provoke saves lives by centering hate

sam provides quick tp for more ws

Ok so i got the melee down, so im guessing the only caster type with good burst dmg would be a BLM, is that a good job to start off with for a beginner?

            Re: High Dmg class

Depends what you want as a beginner...

I would say since prices are high i would lv thf to at least 15 so you can farm crawler silk, etc.

Then lv mnk to sub for war at 18 then take war to at least 37 if you want to retire it.

Rdm and Blu have good magic damage it is just that later in the game blm have the least reisist to magic so they deserve the king of magic damage early on you wont notice much of a difference (10-25) but later on it becomes quite clear and frustrating for rdms to avoid resists

            Double Post Edited:
Forgot to add i recommended lving melee classes first since they are generally easier to afford.

Spells can be hard to find and some are expensive at low lv ie drain aspir warp for blm esp for beginners unless you have some dedicated help i would worry about magic later

Lose the /DRG after level 30. /WAR gives you much better options for Samurai.

Really i was thinking that the high jump and jump ability would make my tp regen a lot faster since i do believe they are instant attacks.

                    Re: High Dmg class

Yeah, but over time, you using a 2H weapon with the new TP system, Double Attack will be much more beneficial. I'm going to tell you what any melee will tell you...

                    Level warrior to 30!

You will be very glad you did, and very sorry if you don't. It is, hands down, the most damaging subjob for any melee.

Now, /DRG does have it's place. I've seen very convincing arguments on the subject in endgame merit parties, but you're not going to get many invites as SAM/DRG.

THF is a great sub, too, especially for SAM, but WAR is a safe bet, because you will undoubtedly play more than one melee job, and it's great for all of them. (Except WAR of course. Then you'll want THF or NIN. Another good argument for THF)

                        Re: High Dmg class

Maybe fun for solo, but meditate as a subjob is gimped to 60% instead of 100%.
You'll get much more damage over time (DoT) out of Double Attack, Berserk and Attack Bonus. You'll also have more than enough TP to keep up with anyone you need to SC with, since soloing TP as monk usually means "Oh my god, I'm dying"

                          Re: High Dmg class

You won't get high jump until level 70 if you sub /DRG, and you already have Meditate at 30, plus Zanshin at 60, which gives an extra chance to strike if you miss. Double attack is a better bargain when it is backed up by Zanshin.

I will repeat what everyone else has said: If you gonna level a melee job, level WAR first. Also, when played right, THF is very good at burst damage.

MNK/WAR will out tp a /SAM from double attack kicking in (On H2H, which if it goes full, should be 4 times, right?) and if you got a bit of +haste gear on as well and a few nifty items to increase double attack proc rate, then you'll be a mean TP machine.

At least, that's what I see partying with MNKs. They're all mean TP machines.
