First of all, I do feel bad posting this since "I cant decide!" topics seem to get posted a lot, but I just...am more stuck then I've ever been lmao.
Alright, so this will be the third time I've returned to FFXI. I've quit and rejoined for multiple reasons, but this time I intend to stay for a good while since I really missed my friends while I was away. How will I accomplish staying this time you ask? Finding a job I want to level...
So right now my two highest level jobs are Black and Red Mage. Black mage is level 47 and red mage is 43. White mage is level 24 so it can act as a sub for either and I plan to level it more once I get a few levels on either job (49 on either).
So I guess the question is what job is for me? It's a difficult question for me to answer because both of these classes, i believe, get decently different after the next few levels. Red Mage has more and more stuff to do and black mages get more powerful and get a few things added to their list of duties as well.
I, personally, love being actively engaged in my group. When I tried Red Mage the other day I had a blast, but it was also just a good party. I didnt feel incrediably overloaded. I kept everyone that needed refresh refreshed, spewed out my debuffs, did magic bursts when I could and was the secondary healer (set up: ninja, theif, dark knight, black mage, summoner and me). I could have probably added haste to that cycle without much problem once I got the spell, but does it really get as bad as people describe? I've heard tales were almost every party you get into you're required to be 3 mages at once, and while I consider myself a good player I dunno if i could handle that, lmao. If it stays relatively the same work load (give or take a few tasks, like hasting) I think I'd enjoy it since I like staying active, and I LOVE debuffing monsters and being efficent with my Mana. So I guess the question is: How insane does red mage get, and is it like that in every party?
And then there is black mage, the class I fled to when I rejoined for the first time. I quit FFXI while being a black mage since I kept getting really bored in my parties since I only would launch one spell and a few debuffs, and then throw a heal every so often. However, I dunno if I've given the class enough time. I know I used to have more fun as a black mage, and currently I think I'm stuck in the black mage's 'low point' where they kind of suck until they get the elemental staves. I think having stun will add to the enjoyment of this class because I'll have another job and something keep focused with, but sadly I havent entered a group yet that required it so I dont know for sure. The question I have for this is: Do black mages eventually get more to do, and does our damage scale up a bit again?
Thanks for the help, and if you have any other comments please do say so. I really want to pick the right class this time and have my worries for both of them either confirmed or denied that way i can make a proper decision. Right now I'm kinda leaning toward red mage, but the tales I've about how hectic being one can be makes me kinda nervous. @_@ I understand it'll be occasinally like that, any job that is versitile has that, but I dunno if I could do it every time I party...
