    Re: Job for a newbie

Also since your gonna be a black mage don't forget to check which npc sell spells. Normally you can get it less from them than the auction house. Here is a pretty helpful site for ya http://ffxi.somepage.com/spelldb/

I also think WHM is easier to level just because they get Cure. Hammer damage isn't too shabby especially if you eat meat jerky, and shields really help. Personally, I think the two best jobs to level when starting if you don't have any idea which direction you want to go are WHM and WAR. WHM is a very common sub on BLM and RDM, and as a main job is generally in high demand. It's also one of the best soloing sub jobs (for your future jobs) so it pays to have it levelled. WAR is a very solid melee in the early levels because of how early it gets defense and attack bonuses, and it's overall versatility (can be tank or DD.) It's also a universal sub job for practically every melee job, from tank to DD. However, I think by far the most important question is: what suits you most? Melee or Magic?

What suits me best? Magic ^.^ I had a 20 Ele/Mes on Guild Wars and pwned with him. Tried a warrior and could hardly survive missions once I got to the Shiverpeaks.

I almost always nuke, but sometimes I'll be the all-around support caster depending on party.

rdm sounds like your job to me, if thats the case, you'll want to level at least both blm and whm to 37

                  Re: Job for a newbie

I would NOT suggest either BLM or WAR to a (pardon the term) n00b. THey both inviolve what i like to call Aggro Management. SInce i have just started my Taru on Odin (18 BLM 10 WHM and 16 RDM since thurs) and having a lot of recent experience with noobs, both jobs are highly dangerous to both the party and the player. I would actually suggest redmage, because it solos well, with or without a sub and parties will love your debuffs and backup healing. I find that in a party without a BLM i get free roam on my nuking, and i rarely have trouble dying because i can heal myself. just my 2gil tho

i would disagree with what deathfromabove said, a new player can just look up BLM,WAR,etc. strats/tips/hints/etc and adjust pretty easily to a more "responsible" job. just as long as they listen to suggestions and learn from mistakes as they go along ^_^

LV1-10 tends to get a player used to using macros and valk may be a pretty bad experience at first, but after the first few PTs it should be alright. plus, just send a /tell to any mentor online or w/e and ask for help.

                        Re: Job for a newbie

If you love nuking with a passion, or being the strongest nuker, I recommend BLM. If you don't mind losing some nuking power for some support spells and versatility, go RDM. Just be warned, RDM turns into a support mage rather than a secondary nuker/healer (though if there's a lack of jobs, they tend to be used for that) as they get more spells like Refresh (MP regeneration) and Haste. But hey, don't worry about it too much, you'll probably want to level both jobs anyways, and that'll give you time to decide which you like best.

And Sweetkitty, I'm only 11 But I'm going to work at my cousin's printshop over Christmas break, and plan on selling my Inuyasha collection over ebay. But I still need to get my mom to put it on her credit card
Aww that doesn't matter. I'm sure your mom will allow you to use her CreditCard to play Final Fantasy XI. ^^ Talk with her, see if you can make a deal! If she wants to help you selling your InuYasha collection, and you work at your cousins printshop i'm sure she might... =P. But NEVER ever forget your school! Not now, and neither when you play Final Fantasy XI!! Trust me, if grades go down = lots of troubles. >< Good grades always help getting your mom to buy stuff for you >=P.
