Re: Best job for me? One for the vets I think

If you don't want to be "Always in constant competition with other players to be picked in a party" then that counts out all the Melee DD.

If you don't want to be "The healer of a party" that counts out WHM and probably SMN too since they always get stuck healing.

That leaves you with the tanks and some mage jobs.

If you don't want to be "Very expensive to maintain" that removed NIN and RNG.

Basicly you're left with either PLD if you want to tank or BLM or possible RDM or BRD if you want to be a mage.

There's also the possability of one of the new jobs but we can't really say how those will be yet.

You certainly seem to have the determination FFXI requires.

Don't forget, if you do choose a job you find you don't like you can always change it without remaking your character from scratch, doors are always open.

Hmmm id say BRD tho they really cant do much dmg at all from what iv seen, they are very unique, there the only job every pt wants i think, they can give the mages refresh then buff the DD with acc and att, plus in higher lvls they can run really fast! lol

      Which FF Character Are You?

And you, wich Final Fantasy character do you resemble?

Yeah, but BRD is the most boring and repetetive job in the whole game.
        You sing two songs on the DDs, run back, sing two songs on the mages, then two songs on the DD again, then back to mages, and repeat. -_-;

Personally, I would suggest Paladin... on paper, it seems like the same thing over and over, but when you're actually doing it, it's more interesting. Keeping hate through everything and playing the job to its' best ability is a challenge, in every fight. It isn't cost-heavy, either, so you won't be required to buy any 10-15mil items to level the job, until much later in the game, and they will still be very optional; unlike, say, a Haubergeon for WAR. You can get kicked out of a party just for not having one.

I think Red Mage would fit your playstyle perfectly. They have a bit of everything so it doesnt get boring as fast as some other classes. Not to mention theres always a good demand for them.

Re: Best job for me? One for the vets I think

Shreks, please don't take it personally, they're actually telling the truth.

I'm very glad you've enjoyed the game so far, but as you said, you've only played part of the beta test, and even then your friend only made it to level 43.

Seeing as how I've been playing for almost four years and I'm only level 61, I can say that just a little while ago I felt the same way as you. I heard people complain about the grinding and I was just like "Where? I haven't experienced anything like that." However, the game is completely different after level 50. The amount of EXP required to level up begins to take a dramatic jump each level. At only level 61, I require 20,000 EXP to get to level 62. I've heard, but I don't even wanna know how bad it is after level 65 and level 70. I think it's pretty evident that I'm a very slow leveler!

The point is, yes, you are going to experience a few extremely boring grind sessions that last hours with no light at the end of the tunnel. However, to me, those grind sessions have so far been in the minority, and there's usually a way to just suck it up and enjoy them.

Again, it's wonderful that you're interested in Final Fantasy XI, but just make sure you understand that these guys aren't here to drive you away and crush your hopes. They're just telling it like it is: FFXI is not a game for casual players.

As for suggestions, Paladin definitely seems like the job for you. You get to experience a healthy mix of spellcasting and close combat, it's not too complicated, and people will pretty much always want you in their EXP party.

And if you like to be creative, be a Galka! I love Galkas, but barely anyone plays them anymore.

PLD like everyone says sounds like the job for you, curing/provoking/spaming job abilitys to keep the hate off the rng ^^, fun stuff, plus a new player can buy the gear nessesary for it relitivly cheaply if you know how to make gil, plus the job is almost always in demand, because partys need a tank and a healer then any other 4 DD or maybe one support job.

My friend played the Beta and got to Level 43 before it ended and he didn't once sit in the same place for 3+ hours and never gaining a level. So being honest here, you seem to me not a veteran of this game.
I'm not patronizing you. I'm saying that, based on one of your major negative things, that there is a high chance you will not enjoy this game. Like I said, I'm not trying to piss in your wheaties, I'm just being realistic. and I said potentially not gaining a level. at 43 it takes like 7k to gain a level, at 50+ it starts taking 10k or 11k.

Ultimately, it's up to you. If picking the game up and getting to 50+ just to prove me wrong gives you another bit of reason to stick with it, then hey, go for eeet.

Sorry to burst you bubbles but after having only a marginl look at the game and having a friend 47 you can tell somebody else they are not veterant ?

                          Lemme ask you this:
                          - How many jobs did your friend played / unlocked ?
                          - What rank did he acheived ?
                          - How many hours did he played total, including looking for parties / missions / quest / skill-up, parties but excluding bazar ?
                          - What do you know of the game ? Anything at all except how to kill stuff ?

You say you don't like repetitive job ? No job isn't. None, nada. All of them has a mold in a party. the mold might change a little bit depending on the other PT members but that's all. All Tanks jobs do the same things over and over, all DD does it too. How is that bad ?

I love playing PLD (37) I love playing WHM (50) I love playing BRD (45) I love playing BST (72) and all of them are repetitive. But I love healing somebody for 450+ HP. I love the power to keep hate as PLD even if the BLM is a nuking maniac, I love how I can stop my PT from dying with Lullaby as BRD, I love being able to kick some VT behind alone with a pet as BST.

I, for one, don't care for the reppetitions. I feel good with them the same a WAR loves seeing the damage he can do on a good SC and the BLM just love the dmg on a MB.

                          Altalus out.
