Re: FFXI Soloing FAQ and guide

I've been working on this guide using responses here, PMs, etc. and it is quickly becoming too large for this thread, so I'm going to keep it in a text file for now and then publish it to a site myself later, then link it here.

Please keep discussing solo strategies here in this thread for any job you have experience with. If you post some great information, or pm it to me, I will quote you in the text, and give you credit.

      Excellent guide.

RNG's however have some soloability(more than people give credit for) due to sleep bolts and all the other status bolts, shadowbind, shadowstich and of course shadows.

After you finish a good deal of the FAQ you should post it on gamefaqs. God knows that place needs FFXI Faqs that are actually up to date -.-

Re: FFXI Soloing FAQ and guide

          In my experiances:

Mnk is a very decent soloer between 15-37. There were times when I was lvling mnk where I didn't want to bother waiting for a pt so I would go find my self a bone camp with lots of EP-DCs and just go to town. With some Def+ and Eva gear I did pretty well. And between 33-35 I often soloed Yuhtunga mandies who checked DC-EM and never came close to dying. ('cept when a T smithy decided to aggro, but a hundred fists to the face convinced him otherwise) On weak hitting, fast attacking Mobs Mnks are great.

The thing with Mnk is that they solo by beating the hell outta something as fast ast they can. With counter, dodge, guard and high vit and hp mnks are made to take a beating. It just takes FOREVER to heal after a fight (Clear mind trait for HP prz ; . I didn't get a chance to try subbing Whm as mine was 10, but I'm sure it would definetly help. Nin is supposed to be a good sub too as those three shadows can last a bit and counter will help you recast.

And with War, I was easily soloing EP-DC beetles in altep in my early 40s. Wars get access to status bolts too and they certainly help. And with a high dmg output and decent defensive gear a War can out last some mobs. And once they gain access to Rampage, DC mobs and such should be far less difficult.

As for nin, I soloed one of the spiders for my Nin af with my nin at 41. Seeing as it was an EM NM at least, that shows just what nins are capable of. I went as a Nin/Mnk though cause again my whm was only 10, but lvling nin 1-20 I soloed EM-T mobs pretty easily as a Nin/Whm.

And finally, about NPCs. They're are AWESOME for soloing help. Once trained and lvled up a bit NPCs become a very reliable partner. As a lvl 50 thf I find myself able to farm goobbues in Zi'tah where my only down time is waiting for repops or my NPC to get her MP back. She'll frequently drop Cure IIIs on my if my hp gets low yellow and uses Cure IV after battles with me at low hp. And with her casting haste on me and debuff on mobs, things usually don't put up much of a fight.

I did some soloing as mnk/war and really the only downside was the downtime... I'm including all that, and the fellowship NPC stuff in the guide soon. I have it in txt now.

I solo'd WHM to lvl 18. At around 16 I went after Gobs, specifically Ambushers, because they will engage at a distance for a time which gives you space and I used Banishiga which was doing a number on them.

I solo'd RNG to 35, THF to 30. Mostly on worms. The lower level of Maze of Shakhrami was about 24-30 and then Attohwa Chasm 30-35.

All you need to do is apply for a federal grant for leveling your RNG. The above is a link to a proposal guide. You can classify this as:

Eh, Stickied. See were this goes...

Moved to Game Related under Race & Job FAQ makes the most sense to me on were it should be.

My thanks to Macht for the precarious position on the stickied list. ^^

I'll be adding more to this and refining the information, but I'd like more feedback from anyone willing to take the time. If I don't beef up the content it won't be worth the space on the sticky list.

Re: FFXI Soloing FAQ and guide

I enjoyed the soloing guide, I think this post will be beneficial.

Everyone has a way to regen or cure themselves. For melee who you have listed that are not able to solo...

Bloody Bolts are an IDEAL way to solo after 25ish and the only way I as a Warrior and Dark Knight have been able to solo without downtime.

Bloody bolts can be used by Warriors, Dark Knights, Rangers, and Thieves. They can provide 18-90 (maybe more) hp per hit. If you keep your marksmanship leveled high, you should have no problem (especially since solo you fight ep-em).

I think if you are going to solo, you are going to need every skill your job has to offer. There were times as Warrior I would equip the earth staff (51) and just spam bloody bolts until I was out of red/orange.

                            Keep up the great work!

Just thought I'd briefly pimp my own favorite solo job combo: DRG/BRD. I personally don't think it'd work very well at lower levels (I started it at 22), but it can be very effective with the right gear and food. There is absolutely no downtime. You have no MP, and resting for HP is pointless since you're just constantly bouncing it below and above the Healing Breath threshold. Given the right camp, I can fight EM-T nonstop, often up to Chain 3 before I run out of targets or the Chain timer gets too short.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.
                              ,
                              . . .

Au Lait drinks that add regen also help a lot at the lower levels. I imagine they would still be helpful in reducing downtime at higher levels. I was unaware of any cost limit imposed on the guide to soloing, but with the view of having the best equipment, having a couple regen/refresh drinks when you go out shouldn't be excluded either.

                                Sorry, I'll stop posting now.
