That's a hard question. Magic jobs require alot of spending to buy spells and get some of the stats-boosting armor and weapons, and yet at the same time, melee jobs require that you have the best weapons and armor you can have. Feel free to flame me out if I'm wrong, but monk seems like a pretty inexpensive job.
Haikus are easy.
But sometimes they don't make sense.

I heard that Monk is the most expensive melee job, with O.Kote, Jujitsu, C.Counters or T.M Hooks, etc.
All jobs get expensive. Period. If it's cheap at the beginning, you'll make up for it at the end. Otherwise, Arcadia's on the right track. BRD is pretty cheap in comparison to other mage jobs. As far as melee, DRG has less choices in gear and therefore spends less.
I once read about somebody who worked out the logistics. It's probably changed a bit, but he showed pretty good research that an average of 2 hours of farming/BCNM/NM/etc. per level would give you all the gil you needed to play to endgame. I don't think 2 hours is all that bad. By the time you reach level 30, you're already leveling slowly enough that the occasional break is welcome. Much quicker than post-50, but still quite a while until you unlock a new ability, get that piece of awesome gear, stuff like that.

School takes up alot of my time, and I like leveling actually. So farming alot doesn't interest me :p
I've talk to some people in-game, especially some bards, and they said that BRD is pretty cheap to play. I might give it a shot.
pretty much all the songs can be bought of NPCs for pretty cheap... only a few instruments go over 10k. you don't need an extremely great set of armor (+2 instruments + updated songs are more important), no foods necessary, etc etc... maybe a few luxury items here and there and thats it :D
...the only problem is that you're the worst job when it comes to farming
My wife is a 67 BRD and yeah, it's the cheapest I've seen so far. Granted, she makes it a point to get as many HQ instruments as possible, and also has a fair amount of HQ staves. Technically though, you could have 0 HQ pieces of equipment, low end gear, 1 type of instrument and 1 weapon, and as long as you have the key songs a PT wants and play the role well, you'll never have to want for invites.
One way or the other, I can tell you NIN isn't the cheapest. =P
First off BRD can be a bit expensive in the Beggening. You'll need a good weapon for the dunes since you have very little songs to spend time on so you'll have to deal some side damage to make up for it. Though later you'll be so busy casting mages ballad on the mages, Minuet and Madrigal on the melees that it won't be as important since most of your time will be full.
37WHM/25BRD/17BLM/16THF/07WAR/05MNK All other Jobs 1.
nin is definately the most expensive job. I spend around 250k or more each level, and that's just for tools.
Like other people said, if you want a cheap job bard is the way to go. It's quite cheap and you'd get parties almost instantly after logging on or putting your flag up.
Yeah, RNG isn't cheap, but it doesn't hold a candle to NIN. Especially 40-60 or so. The Tonjutsu Wheel was my biggest joy and biggest depression for those lvl's. Now I'm slightly better off since they've become virtually useless since 60, but the rising cost of my enfeebles, which I use alot, has been getting frustrating as of late. I know NIN's more expensive than RNG cuz I took RNG to 48.
RNG costs are all Ammo, let's say 8-10 stacks/lvl if you're spamming. Granted, you use more as you get higher due to the lvl gap but same goes with Tools. Now, 8-10 stacks/level of ammo, on Alexander that's around 50-60k per lvl or so. Ever since the RNG nerf patch ammo's dropped in price. Well, I use maybe 3-4 stacks of shihei per lvl, 1 stack of each of the 3 enfeebles (I don't count Dokumori =P). In tools alone that's about 200-250k every lvl. I also cheapened my per lvl cost for both RNG and NIN somewhat by leveling WW to 60 too.
We won't even discuss cost of RNG gear prices vs. NIN gear prices. lol
