All jobs have their expensive "uber" equips. Usually these are not required to perform the job well. They only enhance it. The job is as good as you play it, and as expensive as you make it. Eventually all jobs have multi-million gil equipments that are used in endgame levels. If you are wanting a job that will not cost a lot in the early (first 20 or 30 levels) Then virtually anything besides Ninja and Ranger. Those two require a lot of money to be spent to play it at all. You probably won't be booted from a party because you dont have the absolute best weapon, but you show up as a ranger and refuse to shoot, or as a ninja and refuse to use tools then you will be promptly kicked and blisted. The only real running expense most jobs have is food. And in the early levels you will most likely be using meat mithkabobs which run around 7k a stack on my server. One stack will last you 6 hours barring any deaths. That being said, dont be lazy or cheap and play your job poorly. Also, use the search function and see what I just told you, said a dozen times over.

play a red mage or a brd. its suppoer to be the cheapest as they are always needed.
So as long as u sing the song that is needed by the pt for brd everything else is not needed lol. and for rdm u just have to enfeeble and refresh etc pt and thats it ;p
although enfeeble eq at higher level tend to cost a bomb ;p
so bard may be the cheapest.

Well, first of all, saying you want to be whichever job is "strongest" is the wrong way to go about it. No character can achieve much without the help of other players, and each job is powerful in a different context. It's impossible to say that one job is generically better than the others, and even so it would be a meaningless distinction to make.

That said, black mages possess a great deal of firepower, if raw damage is what you're looking for. Black mages are often sought after in experience parties, are useful in various endgame activities, and in large groups have been known to trivialize some battles through sheer mass damage. Since you've already got whm to 36, you've already got your most important sub taken care of until 74. If you shy away from pricey frill items like Morions, then you can get away with spending very little on equipment through the early and mid game. There are also a fair number of Ex items for blm that you can hunt up yourself. Depending on your race, one kind of pie or another will be the best food for you, and the normal quality pies are only a couple thousand per stack.

If you're unsure of what your main job should be, experiment with the basic six at low partying levels and figure out what style of play your enjoy, then come back and ask for advice on narrowing down your decision. Playing the "best" job is pointless if that's not the job that's fun for you.
