    Re: New job revailed? Chemist?

Since when is Hi-potion a low demand item? >.> Everyone uses them for Promys, Maat Fights, random LS events. Any extra Hi-pots ive had that were left over from an event were sold in a day at the normal AH price.

      Re: New job revailed? Chemist?

When I leveled alchemy, my hi potions sold like water. And I still observe them selling fairly quickly on my server at least. I don't know how it works on your server Macht but things like hi-potions and ethers don't stay up for very long. Silent Oils and Prism Powders sell fairly commonly and the prices for those have skyrocketed to 30-40K a stack. I myself could make a decent amount of gil from silent oils just using the olive oil recipe. Alchemy isn't really that bad off from where I stand on my server.

As far as your other points, maybe Alchemy does need a new channel, but I still contend that the best way to help it along is to tinker with the recipes and items until it works. Not to attach it to the uncertain future of a job. What if Chemist turns out to be an unpopular job? What if the few that decide to go chemist level up alchemy on their own so they won't have to deal with 15K hi potions? Having hi potions being sold in a chemist town sounds like a good start actually. But I still shy away from anchoring another job to a craft like that. Recently when I leveled woodworking I had many many stacks of arrows I simply could not move fast enough because of lack of demand. It took me forever to sell my scorpion arrows, even though that's standard rng ammo at higher level. The AH was swamped with them from crafters trying to level their skill and not enough rngs buying them. It didn't help that they don't quiver. But I had similar problems with beetle arrows, silver arrows, horn arrows, and some types of bolts. About the only thing that I sold at a decent rate was acid and holy bolts. And it still took much longer to sell them than it did for me to sell any stacks I came across before the rng update. Woodworking isn't that great a money maker anymore until you get to elemental stave making level and tons of people aren't going to do that. In fact the only reason I started leveling woodworking was so that I could HQ my own arrows. I don't think woodworking was as good as it used to be, and that's partly because of the rng changes. A large source of ammo users completely disappeared.

That's my reasoning for being against tying a job to a craft. But like I said, it might be that it works out. If it does that's great. But there's always going to be that vulnerablity. If for some reason the Chemist job doesn't do well or falls out of favor, then Alchemy is going to suffer. But I will admit that if items are made more readily available through regional or NPC vendors rather than Guild Shops then maybe it will turn out like Ibroyles suggested and that would be great. But it still doesn't address the vulnerability problem and unfortuantely even if it works out okay that won't stop me from disliking the system and wishing the Chemist job was done in a different way. :p

        Re: New job revailed? Chemist?

My main concern is that if Chemist is dependent on items as much as Ninja and Ranger, why even bother getting a Chemist? Nobody would play a Chemist, even if the item potetency was doubled. You could do another job and just buy and use the items yourself. Heck, sub WHM and just pop Ethers. Who cares if a Chemist job gets you more Ether usage. If you're a Ninja, you won't even be worrying bout losing too much MP. That's why I feel Chemists should hafta make their items for field usage. This:
        1) Does not adjust AH prices. You think Hi-potions are bad now...imagine when 100+ people start leveling Chemist. That price WILL go up.
        2) Cuts down on Inventory usage. Ninja does have it bad, but Chemist would have it even worse. Potions, Hi-potions, Max Potions, Elixer, Hi-Elixers, Vile Elixers, Ethers, Hi Ethers, Super Ethers, Pro Ethers, Hyper Ether, and the +1/+2/+3 versions of those where applicable...and that's not even including status adjusting.
        3) Does not adjust stacking issues. As of now, most medicines/potions stack is 1, with some stacking to 12. That's because they're not meant to be used like in other FFs (buy 99 potions and just use them when unhealthy). If Chemists hafta create their own items, they can stack up to 99 and will probably be EX to prevent selling them on the AH

This whole thread is a waste of time, all of this discussion cause some people think theres gonna be a job cause they used the word alchemists in the dumb monster effing thing... ever think maby their just referring to the CRAFT alchemy? what do you call a person with the CRAFT alchemy?

if you read that blacksmiths created a new ultimate weapon you dont go off and say their adding the job "blacksmith" to the came... no their talking about the craft... thats all i think this is

              Ever read the entire thread?

No, this discussion isn't because we think they are adding it due to wording that was used on the website. That discussion ended, and now we are discussing IF they added the job(which we are NOT saying they will), what may be some problems associated with balancing of it.

Last time I checked, it was okay to branch of topic slightly while still keeping true to the original intent of the thread. If you check the whole thread carefully, you will find that several others have said exactly what you said, and the discussion moved on to an analysis of the job itself and IF it could even be viably added in the first place. I see nothing "wasteful" about this discussion other than having to explain it right now.

                the whole discussion is gonna amount to nothing, chemist or alchemist w/e you wanna call it, isnt even mentioned by developers and you guys are talking about the effect its gonna have on the price of high potions, to me its a waste of time, to you its important, power to you, i was just stating my opinion ^_^;

My friends are reasonable, my friends think clearly.
The majority of threads like this are filled morons who fail to put two & two together while diving into an cesspool of self-indulgence.
I look at these thread titles expecting to read something even slightly insightful and all I see is the same illogical tripe over and over (however, I admit the latter half of this thread is rather interesting).
I'm not one who abides this behavior, so I shouldn't be expected to treat it lightly.

So, I may be heavy-handed, but at least I don't feel the need to take overly-personal shots at a person's life over a video game.

                    Puta.

                    ...OT:
I actually believe Chemist is a strong possibility.
I see it working like a semi-craft Job, where you use the item as you make it.
Due to economic issues, I'd say the materials a Chemist uses to make a potion would have to be different than the materials an Alchemist(the CRAFT) uses to make a potion.
I don't think I'd want it to be as simple as a 99 stack item known as 'chemistry set', I'd think each items would use one or 2 items, ranging in value in relation to the item you're making.
Nothing as complicated or as space-consuming as crafting, but considering Chemist’s legacy, very much akin to it.
I’d like it to have some damaging items like Molotov cocktails and Grenades and, for the high end, powerful healing items, like Megalixir.
The kinds of materials you’d be forced to carry would force you to choose what role you need to play in your party: Healer, DD, Debuffer, or a varying balance.
In any case, at its core, Chemist will be a healer, something we need more of in the low to mid lvls and...less of in the HNM scene (you know it’s true ;x), so if it’s added, we should know what to expect from it, unlike Blue Mage or (possibly) Geomancer.

Edit: If you were wondering, yes, I had OUT OF THE BLUE decided to look this topic up.
                    Who knew? -_-

Well you didn't seem to be being very reasonable...

However as you pointed out, that was a cheap shot on my part. I apologize. I wasn't being particularly serious, I was just pointing out that you were being a bit overzealous in your condemnation of the original poster's ideas. Again, I'm sorry. Next time I'll keep personal thoughts to myself.

OT: Those are some nice points. Chemists have always used items in a method similar to crafting, but not to the in-depth degree that crafting is on FFXI. It would be nice to see a medium of sorts.

They could make "Chemist" like Alchemist in Ragnarok Where you can summon monsters to aid you using combinations of items.

"Darksteel Ore + Hi-Potion" A Golem with 500hp to tank for a while.

It would end up being a solo job like bst if that was true.

It would take away from BSTs and SMNs ... and from what I've read, all indications point to SE making more tank and support roles, not solo type jobs.

OMG. I totally said that there would be chemist. XD; I was saying that it would be able to MAKE Items, like Potions, and antidotes and stuff, and stack them in 99's, but then the items would all sell for 0, so it couldn't be used to get money, and then it would be able to use these things on other players, give the WHM's a break wouldn't you agree?

Didn't read the previous pages I see, this one is still not really stated by SE as them actually making. The Original Poster (OP) made this on a rumor and a big stretch on an idea from a mob in the game.
