Hey was wondering me and a friend of mine just started playing - both taru he is going to go pally ima go a healing class to duo/group with him, wondering would rdm or whm be better class for healing in a group with pally at higher levels - also how would brd/whm and pld/warrior duo?

I would actually opt for RDM. They doa lot of the main healing later on. But it's nice to have a RDM around to also do buffs. You know what? Do RDM/WHM, that sounds right up your alley. -

RDM can main heal pretty well, but you'll be busy enough with your other duties. On the plus side, you'll be keeping your friend refresh and he'll love you for it
BRD is an incredibly powerful job in a group. Duo (for xp) they don't fair so well (just takes too freaking long to kill anything).

Should note a few things also:
(1) Paladin is an advanced job, and your friend will need to raise one of the basic jobs (Red Mage, White Mage, Warrior, Thief, Monk, or Black Mage) to level 30+ in order to unlock the Paladin job.
(2) Duo vs. any XP enemies beyond level 15 or so is a recipe for quick death. Don't center your strategy around the idea that it will only be two of you, or you're going to be in for a very rude awakening once you get past the first handful of levels.
(3) Your job choices are never set in stone in FFXI. If you find that you don't like a particular job, all you need to do is visit your mog house and your moogle will let you change to a different job at any time (though each job has its own experience / level totals, so you can't transfer your levels across, for instance).

we are both level 15 now he started as monk i started as whm, once we get subjobs he will go war/mnk i will go rdm/whm and see how we go from there till level 30 then will play with the advanced jobs - thanks all for your imputComment
