I spend over $1k on individual parts alone (grafix card cost me 200 dollars by itself) to make myself a kick ass gaming machine. (just the box, not counting monitor or sound system)
Computers aren't game consoles, they play games, but not made for games.
xbox360 and PS3, and the still mysterious revolution are specialized for game consoles.
Xbox360 on game performance should beat any consumer based PCs today, much less your 1k computer.
The PS3 GPU itself is about as powerful as 2 of Nividia's top of the line PC cards itself, stated by Nividia's own Prez.
And even if you have yourself a top of the line AMD, The Xbox360 has a 3 core IBM 3gig processor, while the Cell for PS3 has a supposely even more powerful 8 core 3.2gig.
You can't really beat that for a good 2 years. Only reason they're so cheap because they're mass producting it.
