  • free light spirit for WHMs

    not sure if this is possible (i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong:spin: ) but i think a WHM/SMN could get a free light spirit buddy to help cure/buff and to protect you for a couple hits while you run, if you get agro

    cost you need to reduce for it to be free:
    SMN (subjob) level / cost
    1-4 / 2
    5-8 / 3
    9-13 / 4
    14 - 17 / 5
    18-22 / 6
    23-24 / 7
    25-26 / 6 * because of auto-refresh at 25
    27-31 / 7
    32-35 / 8
    36-37 / 9

    first, you need to level SMN to 75 (didn't say it was easy) and max the merit point upgrades to lower elemental spirit perpetuation cost

    then get a HQ light staff (apollo's staff) and the -2 avatar perpetuation cost belt (latent effect only active if your subjob is SMN).

    then do brygid's JSE subligar quest and choose the WHM/SMN body (-1 light spirit cost)

    all that put together should lower the cost of a light spirit -11, and if your WHM is 50+ that adds auto-refresh so it's -12, which is less than the elementals cost at level 37 (-10). however keep in mind, youll have to be 50+ for JSE and staff, and also the merit bonus doesn't kick in 100% til about level 33 i think.

    so why would you want to do all this crazy stuff?

    assuming you have leveled smn to 75 (otherwise you can't do this anyway), you know how handy a free avatar is. any time you get agro, it will protect you long enough for you to re-sneak and get a head start (even at 1/2 your level). probably won't save you from Guivre but it will save you from most monsters near your level.

    secondly, a light spirit is very useful - it casts cure, curaga, protect, shell, regen, haste, flash, banish, etc.

    and finally, it would be VERY cool they only added the -cost merit upgrades in the last patch, so you could be one of the first people ever to try this.

    you could actually use any element. light and dark spirit get 1 extra MP removed from the JSE, and dark spirit is useless so i naturally focused on light spirit.

    I dont think that SMN merit will apply when its a SJ Like SAM meditate timers dont carry over when its a SJ

        You could get it down to a net -3 MP/tick without SMN merits (with JSE, HQ staff, and latent SMN sub belt), though, which would mean 0 MP/tick with stacked Ballads or Refresh, and +3 MP/tick with both stacked Ballads and Refresh. Not unreasonable, but even that may be a bit much (even for what the Light Spirit does).
