you know what, this is why some people are afraid to be female in a game, you are truly a narrow minded person if you truly think this, I have been a female on evry MMORPG I have played and have been it on many times, there is nothing wrong with it, heck I find it funny. If people hitting on you in a MMORPG bothers you THIS much then you truly have some issues you need to seek out.

You think I have issues? Well, Sorry man, I don't swing that way. If you enjoy men trying to pick you up, then, knock yourself out but I for one do not. It is complety gay if you enjoy another man hitting on you. Yeah, It might be funny to see someone think your a female, but, thats like being a cross dresser. Its no deferent then walking out into the streets with inflatable boobs and a hooker out fit.

Anyhow, both of you need to calm down... For those who play opposite sex, they have their rights, for those that don't, they have their rights too..

I would play a male character(yes, I am a girl), if the stat/look of the character matched my style... afterall its a character that I will have to face for the rest of the game, I would rather it be something pretty, than something I wouldn't want to see after 2 minutes... I really don't see why some people take online gender so seriously....

I think, if it was made at the start, mithra should be male/female, and taru should be female only... because I don't usually link cute and male together XD (love K' style in KOF)

So wut Kail, if hes homophobic dont mean shit. I'd hate being hit on by a mithra to think its some 40 year old guy on the other side. We dont like dressing up as a chick and then get some name like Kailea. If your not a woman in rl, why act like one? Unless your the one with the problems.

Out of the definitions used above, when I choose my "character", the definitions that come to mind are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10.

Whats my point? Its MY character! I interact with 100s of people and I act completely NORMAL without a second thought. Do you know why? Becuase "modnar" is as close as possible in "character" as me in real life.

When I bow and salute, that is me giving respect and salutations. When I /laugh, that is me laughing. When I /cry that is me after being killed and raised

There is no acting in the game I play. Its just a representation of me on the screen. You take me out of Earth and put me in Vanadiel and give me the same spells as Modnar the Red Mage, and I will be acting the same way! (... well, I might run a bit faster when Running away because of fear, but that is besides the point).

When I walk in Vanadiel and someone recognizes me, they sometimes bow. Others even /salute and /kneel. Because they respect my "character".

Others do not have that idea of the "persona" they play. I know a father who plays with his daughter FFXI. Both are Mithras. I once helped the father with a Protect and Cure, and he "/emote gives Modnar a big kitty hug".

Not sure if he does that in rl, but I think it is safe to say he was just acting what he thought a Mithra would act like...

For me it is not that way at all.

You come to me into this game and force me into playing a female character, and things get completly messed up in for me. Why? Because that is not me on the screen. I do not feel a connection. I get the impression I have to act different. When I /bow, I want to bow like I usualy do... a female character does a "curtsy bow", which does not have the same meaning to me. When I /wave, my hand goes above my head while waving... I donot keep my hand next to my chest and wave it...

Its just not me and it would just feel out of place for me.

"Modnar" is a guy that acts and looks the way I wanted him to look and that makes me happy and keeps me in the game. Now you can give me "Modnara" (my mule), and it would not be the same for me. I use Modnara for AH stuff and so I do walk around town with her... but she is only a tool, not something that represents me in the game.

This came out longer than I thought it would be, but I hate it when ppl accuse others of being "messed up" or insecure because they don't like the idea of playing female characters on a MMORPG.

It just seems so ridiculous to me..

I mean..its not like your actually turning yourself into a woman or something, or vise versa, its just for fun.

Perfect example, back in Phantasy Star Online, I played a HUnewearl, not only cause they looked bloody awsome, but because I liked the balance of physical prowess and technique ability, (And come on..the HUmar's just..sucked in the GC version in comparison to the HUnewearl's. Shifta/Deban/Jellen/Zalure.)

But there were some guys out there that were *terrified* of being caught playing as any of the female classes, which was just..odd to me..seeing as how it wasn't even literally a gender change..but just a mere class change (As only the HUnewearl fought the way she did, only the RAmarl fought the way she did and so on.) I swear I could pretend to be a real woman playing as HUnewearl and get free stuff up to my neck talking the right way if I wanted too (But that was such a cheap tactic..)
Where as a female gamer I know (or knew back then) played as a RAmar, and told people she was a chick and no one believed her. When I told some people I was a guy most just shoved it off and said they had a femme character too, but some people were genuinly shocked a guy would play a girl. Is it really that big of a deal?

Ofcourse here in FFXI its a bit different because there's a male and female version for each race and there's no difference between gender's..just cosmetic. (except Galka and Mithra.) But sometimes the females are just cooler than the males..and sometimes vise versa. But its just for fun..honestly I'm trying to think of some kind of answer to this but I seriously can't figure it out.

I guess its cause it threatens some men's sexuality or whatever, if you ask me this constant downright fear of anything feminine or unmasculine is whats making so many men in the modern world so damn mentally weak and afraid of growth..

My grandfather told me when I was little, that a real strong man has the strength to understand, and arn't afraid of themselves. Men who hide from things like looking femine, or appearing weak are the real weaklings, and I still believe that to this day.

Eh, I'm getting too deep now, but it still boggles my mind, but you have to do what you have to do.

Some people just can't do a normal discussion except to talk about someone's personal life, which they have no idea of, and to cause a misery to all people around, because they think they are so cool to dare to attack someone's personal life.

Yea, that's what I thought as well, if I played a RAcaseal in PSO, it doesn't mean I have to get myself made into an android. If I'm a guy, I'd still talk like a guy... If I don't care about online gender, there gotta be someone that does the same...If you are gonna freak out that I am not a female bot IRL, then fine by me... I paid for the game, and I choose look > stat, so I will continue to play whatever I want regardless of the gender... which is why I think Mithra is fine the way it is...
It's just a character... people come in all sort of things, there are people who have cat-girl fetish, some people just love agi/dex character...

But then, yeah, if you are homophobic, you should just stay as male character... neither side should comment on eachother's idea of 'character'... As long as you don't get to the point when you say 'You are all gay, there is no female gamer', then I am fine about it...

in WoW my NE is a female, why? Cause the men look gay, hell they even dance like MJ. They look good in caster clothing but are HORRIBLY ugly in anything else pretty much (there's like 1 male NE hairstyle I like-rest are just plain icky) NE's are a lot like Mithras in the sence that the women are usually the soldiers (NE female warriors/rouges look a lot better than the males in the armors, period.) and the males are casters (druid/priest the men look better, hunter is 50/50 really)

Do people really care that you play a female char? No, most people do have a female NE melee of somekind that do play allaince. They just plain look cooler. This relates a lot to Mithras, some people like the way Mithras look in the armors, and go it for stats/ect, no one really cares about it >.> (no one mentioned female players who have male avatars, I've met em)

I don't know if my point came across or not. And there seem to be replies after my post... but I am not sure if they are replies TO my post...

But let me put a few bullet points just in case people did not get me:

- I am talking about MY "modnar". Other people are playing female characters and they are male rl is fine with me. Does not "scare" me or bother me at all. The only thing that bother me in the game are people that are rude (yes, male or female, irl or online!).

- Caught dead playing a female character? I played Tomb Raider, I played Chun-Li, I played Jun, I played Samus, I played Yuna... (there are probably more, just can't remember at the moment). I never gave a second thought to if this persona was a male or female. Not like I will not play Tomb Raider because it is a girl, or not play Metroid when I found out that it was a girl back in 1988. And I was of a young mind in a school full of people that are looking for ANYTHING to tease you about, and Samus being a girl did not even put a dot ANYWHERE.

- We are talking about a choice here. Do I want to look like that, or look like this? You make you choices and I make mine. And my choices come from the prefence (MY preference) to make the online character "modnar" as close as possible as the real me. Would I mind if "modnar" was a female, YES I WOULD MIND! If given no choice BUT to play female characters in FFXI would I play FFXI, YES I will... but I will not be creating a "modnar" character. I would be creating something else that would be based on some other preferences.

- Why are preferences and choices looked down upon?! Can I please play a male character withouth being called "homophobic""!? Do I have to create a female character in order to not be categorized...

I'll just get back to the game. There is so much judgement on this discussion, and I don't like my character to be put on trial.

I don't see the point of being a Mithra,yeah there fine and there stats are nice, but is it worth it? you could be doing a Maat fight when some person who thought you were a girl starts asking you out......thats not good. you will probly die and the person would break ther heart (no i dont know anyone who would break there heart over a pixel female) but there are some people out there who would. So still you can play as one if you want im not saying anything about it but thats again, my opinion. oh and I dont think its "homophobic" to play as a female, it could be good in some senses but bad in others. and its not gay to play as a male, id rather see a hot mithra on my screen for 4hrs a weekend,but, I dont look at my charectors ass when I play the game ,lol, I just play the game. but whatever its your choice.
