  • Melees and getting PT's?

Well, I was just wondering how well melee jobs are at getting PT's ...

I'm starting again in about a week, and I'm having a hard time deciding on what job to be.

I've just about only played mage jobs in FFXI ('cept for the Thf15 for TH and war5 for Provoke) ...

I don't have that much time to play each day around 4-7 hrs and I don't wanna use all that time to wait for PT's.
Though I could create my own PT's, I don't really like being leader and in charge of getting the PT set up and stuff like that

So, what melee jobs have it "easy" getting PT's just by flaggin' ... I could imagine Nin and Rng having it a bit easier, but what about the rest?

Drk and Drg seems kindda fun ... But if getting PT's as melee, maybe I should just return to Rdm or Whm or something?!

RNG and NIN are the only ones that you will get invites easily all the way through. DRK is crappy from 1-60, DRG is great 1-60 but not liked 60-75. MNK 1-55 is hard to get invites but after they get them just fine. WAR I hear doesn't get invites after 30. THF has troubles at 60+ cuz DRK does the same job as them, and last is SAM and from what i hear they aren't very liked 60+ either.
    DRG:75 WAR:37 NIN:65 THF:37 WHM:37
    Next Project: Ninja to 75.

most consider ninja a blink tank. not melee. rngs or wars will see the most pt invites out of the DD class.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

        idk

Im Not Sure What You'd Call Easy. Although None Of My Melees Are High Enough To Party, I'm Going By What I'd Do When Starting One.

~SAM- Useful In SC's....Don't Deal Sickening Damage though.
~DRK- Good Damage Around 30+ With Job Abilities
~DRG- Depending on Sub And Level. DRG/SAM With Penta Thrust..Fast Crap... DRG/SAM = Impossible To Gauge
~WAR- WAR/NIN's Make Good Tanks At 24+ But WAY Better As a Sub
~NIN- Fast Parties, But In My Opinion Also Better As A Sub Unless U Have Utsusemi: Ni
~RNG- Great DD, Fast Parties, Expensive.
        Goals-
        75RDM (51) 35DRG (9)
        40BLM (26) 37NIN+ (14)
        42WHM (16) 18WAR (9)
        60RNG+(12) 45THF+ (16)

Oh Yeah, And MNK Deal Good Damage And Have High HP. Wonder Why No Fast Parties?

Because the common mentality of our fellow NA players is as follows, exceptions apply.

            Mnk hits for 30 damage
            Mnk hits for 30 damage
            drk hits for 50 damge

"Wow omfg the drk owned the mnk." Completely ignoring things such as DoT, haste equips, total attack delays, etc. People have the same feelings about thief and warrior in the damage dealing aspect. A bunch of retards think if a job has to be earned it's automaticlly better.

It's funny though because parsers have shown mnk/war,war/thf,war/nin,thf/war, and thf/nin to be amoug the top damage dealers for a very large portion of the total 75 levels. Of course ranger is the best of the melee type damage dealers but that should already be common sense.

If more people searched for intelligent information on forums thfs, mnks, and warriors would be yielding far higher invites.

Melees that get good invites for pretty much all levels with few exceptions:

Ninja, ranger, and paladin. The rest are good for 1/2 of the total xp grind, 60 is about the halfway point of xp to 75.

thf, sam, drg have pretty decent rates up until 60, thf and sam only shine 30-60/66 really though.

Drk and mnks do well 60/66-75. Drk doesn't really take off until 66 with the introduction of LVL 3 SCs.

If you ask me SE really screwed up though. Even though 1-62 or something like that and 62-75 are each a half of the total xp grind, it's far worse to have the upper half against your favor. Less people in that range, statics, etc. It's a nightmare to be 2nd rate job after 60.
ANYWAY BIG BEN THINK LIKE THIS ITS LIKE HEY GUYS WHY BE RACIST?? RACISM HURTS EVERYBODY ON INSIDE MAKE BIG BEN SADFACE ITS ALL ABOUT SKILLS CUZ WHEN BIG BEN HAD TO WORK ON FARM AS CHILD BEN HAD TO MAKE FARMING PT MADE OF ASIAN MAN BLACK MAN(THATS ME) MEXICAN MAN CHECHOSLOVAKIAN MAN AND IT WAS BEST FARMING PT EVER CAUSE ALL MEN HAD HQ SHOVELS AND TRACTORS AND KNOW HOW TO PLAY SO FARMING WAS QUITE GOOD

No, it's not worth the time.

As far as WARs invites go, you'll get more during JP primetime then NA primetime. Most NAs don't know what a WAR can actually do (/point Xodia), and therefore don't invite them. Most JPs favor WARs, however there's the whole being NA deal.

thanks for the nice replies everyone ^.^

Hmm, I might go War, or Rng - either sounds good!

And JP is no problem - I know enough to hae a decent communication, as long as they can hold back on the kanji ><

I've heard from several people that nin tank is very hard starting out with. Things like getting used to casting utsusemi and timing the shadows - not that I don't like a challenge - I just don't wanna put the PT at risk if I seriously suck at it

More input on this from anyone else? Lotsa feedback to help me figure out what would be the best?!

That is so true, it's funny lol

As a MNK myself, people constantly tell me 'DRK pwnz your sucky attacks', I hit 3 or 5 times constantly(Including kick), and if you can do add/minus, I hit more than a DRK ever since the start... DRK is strong per hit because they use heavy weapons, but hell, their accuracy sucked even as Mithra as I was told, I think mainly because their attack speed is so slow, if one attack missed, they will have to wait a ...while for the next.

                      Back on topic:
This is in the view of a MNK player, so other ppsters may not agree with what I said, but please no flaming:-

I usually refuse to PT with RNG or DRG(when I am leader, that is), MNK is best against skeletons, when RNG, DRG are worst against it... and if you have a MNK, why not fully use that advantage? is what I would think.
THF is usually needed when it's NIN tank, NIN does have a harder time gaining hate compared to PLD or WAR.
If melee include PLD, NIN, and WAR, them 3 will be the most popular choices... every party needs a tank.
DRK usually get PT before MNK, the exact reason Jaggy mentioned, people can't count, and because some forum said 'DRK are ultimate DD', people just believe it like the bible said it.
I would say, on a scale...

                      PLD = NIN > WAR > RNG > DRK = THF > SAM > MNK > DRG

with left side being 'most invites' -> 'less invites' .

so far as a rng 10-50=breeze
on samurai 10-40=breeze 40-45 pure hell as there is about 5 drks, 10 drgs, 3 mnks and 5 other sams LFG at the same time
Joined a static from 45-51, Quit, found it boring, started on my other char with a ranger after getting blm to 34
Rng is fun, expenisve and well worth it
Sometimes invites are not there, but mostly not much waiting
and if you dont have some one to help you with on Genkai do another job, I spent like 140k on arrows and to wind up with no items and had a 75 ninja solo it for me

I personally have never had THAT bad a prob with my acc, if I did it was cause of the mob (example, being dragged to a zone a level early is bad for any melee lol) Avarages 70-80ish percent hits...

However like someone above said, post 60 we are basically THF's with big swords and scythes :|
Most memorable WoW vent convos on Burning Legion:

                          "Dude...I just wrote a sonnet, about taking a dump." - Kronos (2006)

"Guys, I just set my oven on fire by trying to cook ramen in it, and broke the fire alarm with a frying pan. I think I'm in trouble." - Brawny (2006)

"But Hisdon, why wouldn't you want The Unblockable Shield - wait a minute..." - Sasukekun (2005)

i'm just starting to play again too and am trying to figure out which job to play as well, but i dont have a whole lot of spare time to sit around seeking party.

right now my pld is 58. i was thinking about continuing my pld, but i dont know. one reason i quit was it took forever to get parties, especially since i play a lot during jp prime time,

the other jobs i'm considering playing are rng, brd or rdm. they all seem to get invites fast. rng was pretty fun, i played it til about 16, i just know the job tends to be really expensive and i dont know if i feel like farming all the time (i have about 1.8 million gil right now, thats with no equipment whatsoever though).

i'm really not sure if i'll find brd fun. i mean its a really great job...but it just seems really boring. kind of the same deal with rdm...i was just wondering if there was any real enjoyment in these jobs and if anyone could turn me on to them.
