  • Switching to advanced jobs...

Let's say for my beginning job I was a Tarutaru BLM and then for my advanced job I wanted something in the melee-department like RNG. Since magic is my specality, will I start over with fresh new stats so I can build up STR and DEX, or do I keep my BLM stats? Here is my situation, I wanna become a Hume RDM, but maybe later on I don't want to be a magic user when I get my advanced job, so will all my lvling as a RDM be a waste and will I have to still go for a magic-oriented job?

Stats are based purely on the job and sub job you've chosen. So you'll haver Ranger stats as a Ranger, and Black Mage stats as a Black Mage.

A word of advice though: pick a first job that would make a good sub job for your second job. That way you'll be set until you hit 60 with your new job.

Your base stats are determined ONLY by your race and your current main job/support job combo. This is not Final Fantasy Tactics.

If you wanted to switch to a melee job that would utilize some of your current skills, you could try PLD or DRK. I chose DRK as my melee job because it uses alot of the same magic skills (enfeeble, elemental, dark magics) and a bow. So of course those skills are capped for a while. My Scythe and Great Sword skills were the only ones I had to work on. DRK is a nice change from the very busy life of a RDM plus you can sub it to RDM for those special need parties.

Leveling other jobs is determined ultimately by how much time and gil you're willing to put into it. It's not hard to go from mage to melee, but it is a different way of thinking.
        61-RDM 33-BLM 32-DRK 15-THF 16-WHM 8-SMN 11-BST 5-PLD 24-RNG 10-NIN 1-SAM 13-WAR 6/6AF 4/4 RSE RANK 8 San'Doria

im taru as well. started as whm then went whm/blm to level 34. melee is more fun and less stressful. to go melee you have to basically start over building melee up. you have to lvl war can get away with war/whm til lv 10 then at this time would be wise to lvl another melee job like mnk to 10. now you can take war/mnk to 20. most fun melee job for me is drk which im lvl 46 but due to the fact that theres an over abundance of drks in this level range partys are hard to come by even with the best gear, i probaly get bypassed for other races. taru rng rule you deal massive amounts of damage and gets constant party invites even when not seeking, or already partied even at lvl 50. downside to this job is cost and being taru, should go nin sub instead of war for blink. you will get hit and draw agro rng armor is usually a joke. you will be the puller in about every other party.
